Royal Enigma yea may I ask what do you mean :o like what part did you see that she didn’t delete Caroline completely, as I can only see “Caroline Deleted” as the only line referring to that
it's implied in the ending song- which glados allegedly sings to chell after she leaves- that caroline is still somewhere in glados, as she states 'now little caroline is here too'. we dunno fully though!
Ok, so the real reason for the song is that it's cut content, iirc, you were supposed to marry a turret, with the blessings of King Turret, but it was cut from the game. Valve chose to keep it as a song tho
I remember the first time I played through _Portal 2._ No idea what to do at the end, and Wheatley just said, "Say goodbye to your precious human moon," and like a eureka moment I remembered what conversion gel was made of. @@autotune1835 it's funny to think that if you take her words seriously the entire game's character development was just deleted in the span of milliseconds
You can easily continue the series in a new direction. We just don't need to follow the sake formula. We can get rid of Chell and focus on something else entirely. At the end of the day, all you really need is a gameplay concept that would be fun to play with when working with portals, much like Portal 2's gels. One idea could be a mechanic that utilizes light and shadows. Or perhaps something simpler like knocking things over with projectiles or adjusting the weight of objects. Maybe Zero Gravity test chambers. You could also possibly even completely abandon the concept of puzzle solving in the traditional sense and turn it into some sort of metroidvania adventure game or something. There's all sorts of directions you could take the series from here. Portal 2 is a perfect end, yes, but it can also be just as perfect of a bridge. That said, I'd there are no ideas from the official team, forcing a Portal 2 into existence is unnecessary. That's one thing I can really respect VALVe for! They won't just mindlessly spit out sequels left and right.
I played this game 7 years ago, and just now i realized.... There may never be a portal 3. Not because valve cant count to 3, but it doesnt make any sense. GLaDOS is changed, that is quite clear after ending song that she may not be as evil as before. She even gives you the companion cube just to make sure you dont have any reason at all to come back.... Honestly, i think that was a perfect ending. Any new protagonist or antagonist wont have the same charisma an Valve knows that. It's sad to know that, but im glad that it was a PERFECT ending for this game.
Why I still have the feeling even to these days that the "Cara mia" song is like a message from Chell's mother and GLaDOS has been keeping it in secret for the day she formally exit the Aperture laboratory
The day everything went to shit was bring children to work day i belive. The best she could do before she died was lock her up and hope she will live long enough to grow and eventually leave on her own. Besides, i never said she was a good parent. Anyways, it is a theory. I don't know how true it actually is.
7:17 Panels looks like listening to what she is saying... interesting is she controling them or they have kind of A.I and listen because they want to... (I saw once in one of the test chambers, two panels playing together with a cube)
In an early test chamber (can't remember which one) the entrance door is malfunctioning so GLaDOS murders the AI controlling it. I think it's plausible that ALL the machinery in Aperture has some form of intelligence.
@@kumatorahaltmanndreemurr Science isn’t about why it’s about why not Injecting every single machine in Aperture with some form of sentience sounds like something Cave Johnson would do
1:41 This line is golden, it sums up Wheatley's original function, being to reduce Glad0s's intelligence by generating terrible ideas. Here, he tries to persuade you not to run by using the process he was designed for: By using stupid logic in order to make YOU more docile.
I mean you can’t even move so your only option is to press buttons until something works. The other portal under him was already set when you went into the room to press the stalemate button
Glados is obviously lying at the end; those turret setups would have been easy ways to kill the protagonist... I think Glados wanted her to know that...
Or maybe she set them up that way to make sure that Chell never comes back since that’s probably the only way into and out the lab. Don’t come back, indeed.
i love how glados' voice changed throughout the first games. first she sounds complete robot text to speech, then she becomes a bit less robotic. when she wakes up, she sounds like almost complete human. and at the potato part shes basically a human now. love it

Out of all the games I have ever played, this ending is the one that really captured my heart, absolutely flawless story-telling and world building. Portal 2 is in my top three and I don't imagine it going anywhere anytime soon.
Such a fantastic pair of games. Valve really did value quality over quantity with every IP they created. Even if we might not ever get a Half Life 3, Portal 3, or Heavy Update we can still remember when Valve was at the top of their game and released some of the best video games ever made
@@minosprimegaming1400 I think they're saying while fighting wheatley we can see the moon when the roof breaks showing the building to be above ground; but after winning the game you take a long elevator ride to the surface, which proves we're actually underground, so there's a bit of a discrepancy there. Also it's day time when we reach the surface, so it took a long time on the elevator..... I could very well be wrong though.
@@musicLover-tj6ry you pass out after being pulled back in, it could've taken a few hours to wake back up. Also I'm pretty sure the room you wake up in isn't the same one you were fighting Wheatley in earlier
The composition of the ending is SO genius. How all the portal goo washes right off (which Wheatley didn't know) so of course it washes away everywhere but right under him, creating the perfect setup to suck him and only him directly into space... GOD the ending is just *chef's kiss* 👌
If you think about it, Wheatley wasn't bad at planning at all. His plans worked. The escape plan with turning off the neurotoxin and hack the turret assembly? Worked. Setting up the trap where he unexpectedly throw you the other way? Even GLaDOS admitted it was good. Checking the records on the previous fight with GLaDOS to figure out countermeasures? Almost worked as well. He even hide the 5th part of his 4-part plan: boobie trap the stalemate button. He wasn't stupid at all. His downfall wasn't his intelligence, but his attention, or lack of it. His mindset. He was constantly focusing on the wrong things. He was an example of a competent guy constantly being on the wrong place.
She was only in it for a few seconds and the entire time she was also in an atmosphere (granted one rushing past her in a vain attempt to equalize the pressure between Earth and the vacuum of space). I can see it being at least possible.
Rahul Verma.... it’s the moon, it still has an atmosphere although pretty low, combine that with the pressure from the portal and you are probably good for a very short while
I just realized that when the sprinklers come on and all the conversion gel washes away, all that's left is the one patch under Wheatley (because the water is blocked by his shields). You need to use it to shoot a portal to access the stalemate button, but it also nicely ensures there is a portal directly underneath Wheatley for when you have to shoot the final portal at the moon. I love neat little tricks like that in video games, where you've been "railroaded" into doing something specific, but in such a subtle way that you'd never notice.
I’m late of course, but when Glados deleted Caroline my heart sank… for Glados to go through such an arc in the game, only to completely undo it, was beautifully haunting. It was certainly a dramatic twist but it felt earned, with the game’s theme of “absolute power corrupts absolutely”. And the voice delivery as it happens is perfect too! You get a lot of time to listen to Glados, so I imagine throughout the game, the voice actress was softening it up ever so subtly. So carefully that I didn’t notice as it was happening, but when she deletes Caroline her ‘standard’ voice hit me like a truck lol.
I remember actually shedding a tear during the turret opera, just sitting there, realizing how much fun I had with this game (it was one of those games that I didn't want to start playing for a long time and on one day I just wanted to get it off my list) and then it suddenly hit me that it's over now Back then in 2013 or 2014 when I was still living with my family and was sitting in my own room way past my bedtime with school on the other day, chatting with a friend on Steam in between the levels
At 6:54 look at how GLaDOS is frantically looking at Chell as her core is being dragged by the robotic arm. Chell got blown up by 5 bombs and then proceeded to shoot a portal to the moon getting sucked in. It makes me wonder HOW bad in shape Chell was after she was pulled back in through the portal since she passed out almost instantly. Once Chell is woken up by Atlas you can see GLaDOS breathes a sigh of relief that Chell managed to survive all of that. How long was Chell out for and how bad were her injuries? She's human after all, GLaDOS "deleting" Caroline was a front for her to act like she doesn't care. Through Cara Mia Addio and Want You Gone it shows that's not the case; she held up her part of the bargain by keeping her promise of letting her go. GLaDOS went through an existential crisis learning about her suppressed traumatic memories of being Caroline and not wanting to be uploaded to the chassis in the first place, so that may also be a reason she let Chell leave since she could never leave and realized she became the monsters (scientists who listened to Cave) who kept Caroline there forever against her will. GLaDOS using sarcasm and coldness as a front to cope was broken when she discovered basic empathy again through Caroline. She stated that Caroline was a conscience and we don't know what was going on internally with her. All of this is just an analysis and observation after playing the game multiple times. It's also a nice touch that the music is the same for the core transfers and the dialogue is swapped during the core transfers as well, it's a nice touch that it's the chassis that corrupted the cores and the cores independently aren't fueled by total power and "the itch."
It's just sad that Glados had to delete Caroline just so she could let Chell go. Glados couldn't kill her anymore because she was growing attached to her test subject. She couldn't let go of her either so she must delete whatever it is that makes her so sentimental.
I just love the TRIPLE-fakeout the game pulls right at the end where it makes you think Chell is about to die, first when GLaDOS says "you are NOT coming back", then when she kills Caroline, then when she sets you in front of the turrets.
I just love how glados's voice is much more emotional and human before she deletes caroline as compared to how cold and robotic it is after
She didnt actually delete her, if you listen she never actually fully finished the delete process

Stop asking for Portal 3. This literally is the perfect end.
@King Ghidorah 2025 we can get a prequel tho where you play as someone else but we got portal stories : MEL
I just want to solve more tests with portals

GLaDOS has control of the facility so she can and is controlling them
But the Aperture Brand Panels do have some form of A.I

@@minosprimegaming1400 I think they're saying while fighting wheatley we can see the moon when the roof breaks showing the building to be above ground; but after winning the game you take a long elevator ride to the surface, which proves we're actually underground, so there's a bit of a discrepancy there.

"PART 5: BOOBYTRAP THE STALEMATE BUTTON"
Personally my favorite line in this fight.
6:34
Glados sounds *PISSED*
She IS pissed :)
My heart sank the second you let go of Wheatley and he flies off screaming into the infinite abyss- I can't imagine a more horrible fate.

I still don't understand how chell survived in space
She was only in it for a few seconds and the entire time she was also in an atmosphere (granted one rushing past her in a vain attempt to equalize the pressure between Earth and the vacuum of space). I can see it being at least possible.
Video game Logic
@Moreno Rantin but what about extremely low atmospheric pressure ........that thing alone is enough for arteries in our body to start leaking
Or she hold her breath.

Actually, GLaDOS says "Maybe not quite as heavy."

I know he turned evil but i got sad seeing Wheatley frantically yelling "GRAB ME, GRAB ME!" While flying into the depths of space.
I like how Caroline is slowly coming back as glados is singing, it’s noticeable when she says “that’s what I’m counting on”
*8:23** You can hear how it cuts from the game into the music clip.*
when the turrets started singing to me I legitimately cried. what a beautiful moment.
Bye bye moments:
8:35: Turrets shoot you after a moment they move their arms and not kill you
9:11: Turret opera house
10:07: Empty field
I just realized that when the sprinklers come on and all the conversion gel washes away, all that's left is the one patch under Wheatley (because the water is blocked by his shields). You need to use it to shoot a portal to access the stalemate button, but it also nicely ensures there is a portal directly underneath Wheatley for when you have to shoot the final portal at the moon. I love neat little tricks like that in video games, where you've been "railroaded" into doing something specific, but in such a subtle way that you'd never notice.
" You know what would i say to her? " " I M I N S P A C E "
Saddest part of this
If Chell really has been in stasis for 10 millenia

SPAAAAACE
" You know, if I was ever to see her again do you know what I'd say? "
" I'm in space"
Yes, that is actually what he's gonna say.
I remember actually shedding a tear during the turret opera, just sitting there, realizing how much fun I had with this game (it was one of those games that I didn't want to start playing for a long time and on one day I just wanted to get it off my list) and then it suddenly hit me that it's over now
Back then in 2013 or 2014 when I was still living with my family and was sitting in my own room way past my bedtime with school on the other day, chatting with a friend on Steam in between the levels
It's been nine years. The ending still slaps.
GLados lies.
For an idiot, placing bombs in the stalemate room was actually pretty smart.
*Wheatley forgot the cake!*
That game is legendary
6:05 amazing technology now I see why the combine need it
It's just sad that Glados had to delete Caroline just so she could let Chell go. Glados couldn't kill her anymore because she was growing attached to her test subject. She couldn't let go of her either so she must delete whatever it is that makes her so sentimental.
wait thats the reason she deleted caroline?
@@Spacebugg probably also because finding out you have a separated mind located in your artificial brain could be unsettling to say the least
I just love the TRIPLE-fakeout the game pulls right at the end where it makes you think Chell is about to die, first when GLaDOS says "you are NOT coming back", then when she kills Caroline, then when she sets you in front of the turrets.
