    Both of the smells combined the best thing is just to open the vent and turn the fan rather than spraying perfume. thanks for the tip jerry really needed this.

    Thanks for sharing this Jerry. We used Unique at our previous house when the sewer line became clogged and it saved us from having to pay a plumber to auger the line. I am so glad to know that they make it for the RV as well since we will start full-time at the end of the month.

    We just gave this product a try. Our black tank sensors have reading full on an empty tank. After watching this I thought lets give it a try because the geo method and other products we have used failed miserably. I am happy to report the tank sensor is "E" this morning after a two day soak. I am just on cloud nine thanks again Jerry.

    I have been using the Calgon and Dawn method for a couple of years with much success and little expense. But the main thing that I would recommend for everyone is the importance of regularly spraying out the black tank. This keeps the sensors cleaned and working properly. My rv is equipped with the automatic flush but after testing it I switched back to the old wand because it cleans more throughly.

      I’ve used the this method and agree, a good scrub with a Swivel Stick every so often keeps the sensors true.

    We just purchased a new travel trailer and did a lot of research on blank tank treatment. After watching your review and the others with the dog food tests, we decided on RV Digest. It works like you say in the video. We only did a few day trip and I let it work in the tank for a week to give it time to break down the solids. When I emptied the black tank, it was all liquefied and the paper were just white specs. We used regular toilet paper not the special RV type. This will be our black tank treatment. Good stuff. Thanks for the review. I stopped putting cream in my coffee, thanks 🙂

      Great Ralph. Glad to hear you had good results too. One other tip, every month, pour an ounce in the kitchen sink. It will break down the grease and food particles that slip through the strainer. Will keep from fermenting and creating a bad order.

    I bought a 22 year old Class B+ RV in Feb this year. It looked good when we bought it at below freezing temps but 550 miles and back home later as temps began to warm up we discovered all kinds of neglectful even down right one could call abused due to neglect trouble. So the bathroom began to smell. I found a quick fix by putting some lemon odor ban mixed with lemon lysol blend into the toilet bowl which acted like a stop and I did dump about a gallon down the drain too but it's still in it's winterized mode and we are still having below freezing temps so do not want to worry about freezing pipes or tanks. Meantime the solution definitely stopped the aroma problem in the toilet. I discovered this on Amazon. Good reviews mostly. I bought the repair sensor formula and then went back to discover probably the formula you have that's about 16 treatments at 2 ounces or 10 times more powerful than some of their other formulas that they also sell but treats 2 to 4 treatments per quart of product. So the plan now is to use the sensor cleaner once but apply the agitation option when we finally unwinterize the whole RV. This is put on hold while I repair a leak under the fresh water tank also discovered when the aroma of mildew hit again at around 45-50 degrees outside. And it's still out with sanitizing solution mainly bleach solution in it to really sanitize. That problem was caused by the air flow line was disconnected and no one figured out where it needed to be reconnected and probably both driving with a full water tank and also during over filling the tank there was water released and the rotting of wood flooring etc. took place over time and time again. Repeating the cycle. They knew there had to be a problem due to al the scented dryer sheets and saw dust sachets I discovered thrown into cubbies and under sofas and benches and into the sink area. I did not notice these when we bought it. The seller orchestrated showing at night when it looked pretty good and matched the photos that also looked good. Anyway I have yet to get the plumbing reinstalled and sanitized lines and replaced with new lines. The hose that was that air hose had developed black mold and sure enough there was black mold spots about 5 in inside floor of the water tank discovered after I pulled the tank. But I'm going to use these products and plan to continue to use in the future. And I suspect as some of their remarks about doing this especially when you buy a used and older RV that might never have been fully cleaned since new. I betcha this is the case with my RV. The bad smell did stop when I took the RV in to a shop that specializes in RV work I had stock piled a lot of new update items to install and to help get a handle on it I let them do the installation including a new Dometic 310 toilet. So the old toilet's inner gasket ring must have been worn out or no longer effective since the new toilet through out our really hot summer this 2023 no odor and no need to reapply a few inches of the lysol and odor ban solution. Just got the windows reglazed and installed with butyl tape and extra Dap Sealant to water proof in the future too. Discovered all 3 windows had also leaked over the years and no one had fixed that either. So my first RV ever. It's been a wild ride in education RV 101 and beyond. Wood fillers and wood hardeners for repairs to the rotting wood after cleaning and scraping out the bad. Reapplying heavy duty water proof wall paper and figuring out how to make it look decent with the still good older paper using a trim piece to cover the seams that come together. And though it's slowed down my plans for this year she'll be ready next year. I enjoy a challenge and believe life is full of them and it's good to meet most head on. My education has been fascinating and it's great to note my brain for problem solving is healthy too. As soon as the fresh water tank and new plumbing lines are installed all sanitized I'll be ready to tackle the sewer and grey tank too. Everyone says clean it too initially and add 2 ounces of this to it too. This brand makes a few other formulas but I can't determine if they really are different or same product with different names. I intend to check out the calgon and lysol formula for keeping the tanks healthy too. But not until I've taken the time and put in the effort to give this brand time to work it's magic. Often having patience is making sure the job is a success. I'm not a patient person in other areas of life but I know the value of taking time to do a job well so it's a win win all around. Thank you for your review and experiences with this product.

    Excellent advice for anyone who has an emergency! I was hospitalized a couple months ago, so my ex was "helping me out" (he was homeless at the time, but told everyone I needed help.). I had him watch me repeatedly before I let.him handle the tanks himself. So when I came home from the hospital I was told by someone else that security beat on the door to wake him because there was water pouring out if the back of the rv. It's a 2003 - the flush ball stuck slightly open.
    So, he's been gone 2 weeks now. The day before yesterday, my daughter came over, used the bathroom, and came out -"I'm sorry! i plugged the toilet! I told her I'd take care of it. So, when I went out to dump the tank (which my late husband dubbed "pulling the T-Handles"), I noticed that my ex had not only broken the handles off, but he had left the valve partially open.. i don't know, maybe he thought that might keep it from overflowing again! Anyway, that meant I had a pyramid. One that had probably been building up - and solidifying - since the first week of December! I had "tools" on hand - my late husband bought them before he got sick - and so I diligently studied everything I could find on what to do.
    NONE OF IT WORKED!
    So, for some reason, instead of a Google Search, I searched TH-cam! I ran into a video telling me about this UNIQUE stuff, I looked up their site, but I was DESPERATE! I recently had major GI surgery - they removed my entire large intestine - and things don't work the same! I went to Amazon - the price was $2 more, and I paid the extra to have it delivered faster!
    I saw the notification that delivery had been made, and I rushed out the door and didn't see it! I went to look outside the little fence. Nope! Just then a car with 2 women sped by,, slammed on the brakes, backed up and the driver said, "Amazon?" Yep! She said she'd bring it to me, and I met her halfway.
    I rushed in, put 2 oz. Into the toilet, and looked at the time. Started counting down the two hours and read about the product. Oh, first dose, double! Okay. Did that.
    Now, I have cut out everything I tried before I placed that order, bit if you've ever encountered this, you have some idea! Leave if to say i had become so desperate that I broke down and shut off the water and brought in the snake - determined to be extremely careful - I wouldn't put it in deep enough to risk puncturing the tank!
    Well, THAT wouldn't be a concern! It didn't go very far before it hit CONCRETE!!!
    So THIS UNIQUE STUFF better be able to perform a miracle! It was going on 24 hours since I had put the bathroom on "out of order". To prevent having to use it, I had not had anything to eat or drink. But I have an entirely messed up system, and even though they did that surgery, I still ended up septic again in December! So I have to be careful what I do! The park has restrooms, but I can't walk that far, and my ex burnt up my car just before be left, so I don't have transportation. So THAT PRODUCT had to perform a miracle - or I might end up in the hospital again.
    Well, I'm here writing this account, so you have to know - UNIQUE DIGEST IT IS THE MIRACLE I NEEDED!
    The "funny" thing is, after I hurriedly placed the order, I started reading on Unique's site, and they said that if you had my problem, the Digest it was NOT the product I needed! I panicked! But I decided to wait and see anyway.
    Thank God It WORKED!!!

    Hi Jerry, happy that I found your TH-cam channel. One observation I have that you don't mention, the directions on the RV Digest-It bottle say to repeat every 3-5 days. Do you follow that? If not, why not?

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      We’re glad you found us too! We add to the tanks after each dump, around 7 days or so. We’ve not had any issues. We also use Scott’s RV and Marine toilet paper. This dissolves quickly. Maybe one of the factors that allows us to extend the time to add by a few days.

    Thanks for making the video , I just want to emphasize before I make my comment that is not that I don't believe in this product, but everyone making this kind of test in my opinion don't apply a proporcional ratio to the mix ( dog food - digest- water ) if you put it in prospective, is like mixing in a 50 gal black tank ( in my case with my Tiffin Allegro Bus) around 5 pounds of dog food - 10 gallons of digest- 30 gallons of water , to me is a lot of bacteria that of course is going to " digest " the dog food in 2-3 hours .
    Just my 2 cents... thanks again, and please don't take my comment in a negative way, new subscriber !!

      @iLoveRVlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply. Unique works. The amount used in the video was to show how an enzyme works. True, the amount was increased slightly, but only to show how it works without a week of camera work for the video. I have another video in the works to show how Unique works over time in a black tank. The concern I have is I’m not sure how interested viewers will be in seeing me dump a black tanks and showing the results in a video. This go around, no dog food and using the powdered pods this time. The great thing about an enzyme is no perfumes to attempt to mask odors. Naturally and quickly breaking solids manages odor and allows the black to dump easily. Thanks for watching and appreciate the sub.

  • @markh6885
    @markh6885 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been using this (the liquid form) for over a month (we dump once a week) and my experience is, this doesn't disolve toilet paper any better than plain water. In this video he mixes it close to 1/2 & 1/2 which is just not cost effective, for comparison he should've used a few drops in that 6oz jar. I did the same experiment with dog food kibble in plain water and got very similar results, dog food was nearly completely disolved in a few hours. This product does seem to reduce odors (but not eliminate).

  • @maryinmn9499
    @maryinmn9499 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The first part of your test with the color change and swell is just damp dog food. That's why your dog is full. Which also teaches that in summer throw out what they don't eat it goes sore. Your enzymes will always help digest solids. Black tanks! That's why you love RV life? I enjoyed your toilet paper one so much since it reminded me of a past Science Fair project.

    Jerry, I've been using this product since we got our 5ver, 3 years ago and have never had an issue with the black tank fluids / solids flushing out. Plus, my wife's super sensitive nose has never detected any horrific smells coming into our RV....except maybe when our 4-legged furry creatures (our puppies Gizzie & Jake) have an accident. Great product, I, too, would recommend it. Be safe, have fun, & happy camping. v/r, TS

      Hi Mark. Those tank indicators can be a pain. I’m going to use RV Digest-It through the summer to see if the indicators stay true. One thing that will fix it is the wand I used in the black tank video. After 10 minutes, it scrubs everything from the tank.

      One positive about this liquid is using for the gray tank. An ounce or so does a great job dissolving the grease and gunk from the kitchen sink.

  • @duckslave
    @duckslave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jerry - I put off trying the Unique product for quite a while - I was happy with Happy Camper - it works great in the black tank. Recently I’ve been having problems with my gray tank sensor and tried everything (except the Unique product). Nothing really worked - not Happy Camper, the GEO method and its variants didn’t work, Elemonate caused the problem by not getting rid of grease and other nasty substances etc. Finally, I used four ounces of RV Digest it in a 2/3 full gray tank and let it sit overnight in a stationary vehicle. Flushed the gray tank the next day and the sensor finally read “empty.” So, there is a large pile of failed tank treatments if anybody wants it. All I carry now is Unique - thanks for exposing me to this product! Do you still use it?

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi George. I do use it. I keep the liquid for the same reason you experienced. I did move to Unique’s summer high temp powder while traveling in 90+ degree temps over the past few months. The liquid struggled to manage odors in these temps, but the powder worked fine. Still use both Happy Campers and Unique powders in the black tank. Just depends on what’s available when I order.

    Jerry, thanks for making your videos. I've tried RV Digest It and didn't like it. Yes, it does liquify, but in the heat, I couldn't take the odours. I've since returned to Happy Campers which I find is the best.
    BTW, I would have made the test with two jars, one with water only, the second just as you did.

      I wondered about the heat. Wondering if the AC is keeping the tanks below 85 degrees. We haven’t had an odor issue yet. We have a bottle or so left and will see how it works over the next couple of months. Agree, have not had the issue with Happy Campers. I had the test water only. After 8 hours, nothing happened. Kinda like watching paint dry. Goal was more to show how it dissolves solids. Appreciate you sharing your results.

      I would have to agree. Been living stationery here in South Tx for 6 yrs now and have 2ea 80 gal black tanks. I have a bath and a 1/2 fifth wheel, and there is not a product on the market that will help with the odors. I have tried everything on the market and including the home made solutions. Most all work during the cooler months and breakdown and liquefy the waste.
      The thing that i have found to be the most successful is the use of lots and lots and lots of extra water when flushing. But even that doesn't get rid of the notorious black tank odor in the extreme heat.

It will show free and pay for the area your camping. Water at convenience stores, out west you can find pay water stations.

      I’ve never used the toilet cleaner. We too use a natural product. Wise move not to use any type of bleach product in the toilet. It will kill the enzyme. I do use the powder enzymes in the very hot summer months. Either RV Digest-It powder or Happy Campers, which ever is the lower cost per treatment at the time of purchase. We’ve found very hot temps can affect the performance of the liquid. I have both listed on our website at www.iLoveRVlife.com/RV-accessories

See if it knocks blockage. May need to repeat. If no success 2 or 3 tries, you’ll have to wait for the cleaner yo work. Also start using Scott’s Marine RV toilet paper. People will debate, but never had an issue with blockage when used in 8 years.

    Hey Jerry. I use the Happy Camper and it works great. Our first trip was Memorial day weekend and had to dump at least twice a day. 5 of us. I'm thinking my readings are not correct or there is some build up in the black tank. I have a 36 gallon tote. I bought my 2018 Forest River Wildcat bumper pull used and sadly the black tank was never dumped. Not sure how long it sat like this but Houston, we have a problem. I'm on the road trucking and my son is going to clean the black tank today. Advice on a good cleaning technique. I do have the tool to clean the tank from your other video. Should we hook up the tote and leave the black tank gate open and do the 10 min spray down of the tank? And then fill it up with hot water and maybe 2 scoops of happy camper and let it sit for a day or 2? Thanks. John

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John. You have sensor issues. We’ve had 4 adults in our camper and had to dump every 5 or 6 days. The Swivel Stick should be the fix using the tote. A good 10 to 15 minute scrub with household pressure should do the trick. Slight change to the last task. Before you head out on your next trip, get a 5 gal bucket of hot water and put 5 scoops of Happy Campers in the water and stir. Pour in your toilet and take off the the campground. The road turns and bumps will slosh the solution and give the tank a good coat of enzyme. Use till full and dump. The scrub and the enzyme treatment should bet all the gunk out. Safe travels.

    How does this product do with controlling odor?

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Similar to other enzymes. If this is a tank that’s been used, there’s usually some sludge buildup over time. Once the enzyme is used a couple times the slug on the sides dissolves. The natural process breaks solids down and manages odor. Some want to add to the enzyme, bleach, a cleanser, pine oil, etc. then complain the enzyme doesn’t work. Adding theses kills the enzyme. We’ve used enzymes only for almost 5 years.

      Victoria, that should help. But, there could be build up if the previous owners didn't use the tank scrubber after dump. That is if a scrubber exists on your model. If it's still smelly, then give it a good 15+ minute scrub with a swivel stik. Here's a video. Not a hard task with good results. One other tip. Just use an enzyme, nothing else like a cleanser, etc. Cleansers will kill the enzyme.

    Jerry, great review! One thing you didn’t mention was odor after a week or so, but prior to dumping? We’ve noticed in the last couple weeks in GA and then FL with stupid hot temps that we’ve got some fairly rough odors coming into the RV every time we flush. How has this product been in managing that?

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jason. The trick to this and any enzyme is consistent use. After several black tank dumps, the enzyme will cleanse the gunk found on the side of the tanks. That can be a big problem with this gunk having the open air of the tank to smell until the tank starts filling. Enzymes will dissolve this stuff over time. Also, don’t try to mix anything with the enzyme, bleach, cleaners, pine oils, etc. If this is done, it will kill the enzyme bacteria that dissolves the solids and keeps the odor in check. Plus it can take weeks or longer until it’s no longer in the tank. We were in a state park recently and it was hot. We’ve been using for weeks and odor wasn’t a problem.

    I have been using a 2lb. bag of brown sugar and a couple packets of cooking yeast and let it bubble up in a hour and pour it down my toilet. that's what we use to keep our septic tank at home empty. let the enzems do the work

    It would be good to mention that water is our friend in a black tank. People who boonedock a lot tend not to use enough water when they flush and they get the pyramid in the tank. Other than that , good info, I'm trying it out too trying to get the sensors to work better.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So true. Sometimes these black tank sensor get really gunked up. This process gives the tank a good scrub and I’ve had good success with the sensors working. th-cam.com/video/K3QZmqf77FQ/w-d-xo.html Using an enzyme after the scrub keeps them working well.

    My Black tank won't drain. I ordered some of this stuff to see how well it can break down stuff. I am going to let it sit for a couple weeks. However, I am skeptical about the "Dog Food Test" as dog food does that in normal water. I would like to see a toilet paper test but I guess I can do that on my own. Also, you wouldn't happen to have the link for the super back up black tank solution would you?

      Here’s the toilet paper test th-cam.com/video/8LAnBXeBuU0/w-d-xo.html. I’ve had this happen. I used a reverse flush and knocked the clog loose. You may want to try something like this amzn.to/3iCL3RY It worked for me.

      @@iLoveRVlife BTW I see your brand and was not the one I am into but I tried those before and it just sort of sprays water up there. Not really powerful enough. The link I sent you pressurizes water back into your tank and fills it up. But I am not too sure about your brand. Might work the same let me watch the video young man.

    Hard dog food is probably not a good test. My pup get food in her water bowl all the time and it turns to really soft mush. Why not try just TP... single and double ply and see what happens.

    • @iLoveRVlife

      More to show how quick it dissolves. In actual use, the entire contents in the black tank liquifies over night.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A little extra. Wanted the test to go quicker. Didn’t have several days due to time constraints. In a black tank after a week of use, all the solids are completely dissolved.

      I Love RV Life, it would have been nice to see if it broke down faster than plain water. I’ve had a piece of dog food fall into the water bowl break down in about the same time. I’ll have to do more research.

    Thank you but wish you would had done two samples sided by side just like you did here but the other one just with water. That way would could see how much it works better if any over just water.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had the dog food in water and ditched the test when nothing happened after 8 hours. Showing the results was like watching paint dry. The main goal was more to show how the enzyme would break down solids. My thought was the test shown would be a more difficult test that what would typically be found in a RV black tank. Appreciate the idea.

    Thanks Jerry, however, a control with just water would have been informative. Dog food is designed to soften with water, this is according to my veterinarian who does not recommend giving dogs dry food like you showed but to include it in a little water to begin to soften it. Anyway, very informative and I will try this stuff.

      Appreciate the tip. If you have a clear elbow on your dump hose, think you’ll be amazed how all the solids are dissolved on your first dump. We’re currently in a hot climate with a large black tank that we dump every 10 to 15 days. No odor. It just works.

    Question: I treated my black tank with this and all was well in June for our very first camping trip. We dumped it and no real smells. Filled it with water 1/3 full and left it. Now it’s August and it smells! PU. You can really smell it when you press the toilet pedal open. I didn’t treat it again though bc we just put water in it before we parked it. It’s been hot and it’s been in a garage. What happened? I saw some reviews on it where they said it doesn’t work well against smell in the Summer. What can we do now in August? I did finally add some more Digest It yesterday bc it smelled. It’s been parked for a while since our last trip. But I was hoping it might smell better now that I treated it again but I’m not sure yet.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the hot weather, I imagine whatever was in the tank has continued to ferment. The RV Digest-It powder holds up to the heat better. A third of a tank of water was a bit much. You’ll need to dump, add the enzyme and about a gallon of water to keep the tank from drying out.

    • @drummergirl9481

      I Love RV Life thank you so much. I was stumped bc we dumped it and it still smelled. We’d only used our RV for that one camping trip so it was clean when we bought it. (It was used). I’ll find that powder and try again. Gracias!
