J seems like an excellent fellow (and is an incredible esports commentator) but does not have nearly the strength to commentate this level of chess insightfully or compellingly. This is not a knock on him but rather a knock on this lovely company which should have MORE than enough money/resources to get qualified commentary.
you’re assuming everyone has the spare time all the time. consider other commentators have life to deal with, are commentating other tournaments or simply not interested
@@Alzoryne You're assuming that out of a large pool of qualified individuals, all of them have to be free 24/7 in order for one of them to commentate this event. I am assuming at least one of them happens to have some spare time that overlaps with this event. This was a conscious decision by the organizers, not a necessity based on a lack of options.
Couldn’t agree more - I would say a strong FM is the absolute minimum requirement to commentate on players who are basically the best of the very best. I should just add that my favourite commentary duo is Tania with Peter Leko - such a humble guy and someone who back in the day I was lucky enough to play five classical games with:))

If you have alireza vs grischuk in the title , then the least you could do is show their games. I know Magnus is Magnus but common you can't just show only his games!!! Show more respect to your players
@@Bennerboihe is completely right .. they didn't show none of Alireza's games .. the first game was completly Magnus , the scond and third game was few minutes Alireza then they moved to Magnus and we didn't see the ending .. and the fourth game Alireza was already through so again magnus

That last game was incredible and very interesting. Tania and the computer found some great variations and Magnus was supper strong in that game. Wow !

John is a horrendous commentator for chess. His suggestions are terrible and serve primarily as filler, so it benefits no one, not even lower rated players. He makes the games borderline unwatchable. The commentary field is loaded. There is no reason for him to be here.
Magnus cannot forget the brutality he FACED either ... In the same tournament when he lost two matches in row to Alireza and became second in Julius Bear 2 sessions ago. wins and losses are part of chess .. no one can win every game ..even Magnus! Grow up

Alireza beat Hikaru with a huge difference in score but I don't believe this shows Alireza is significantly a better player than Hikaru.. In the crunch lab masters this year, the one who beat Magnus was Alireza.. were u watching the games at all?

There are so many GMs who are available outside the top 30. Give them a platform to do commentary too

Alireza beat Grishuck quite quickly, so for a long time it was only Carlsen vs Aronian playing :)
