    • @smarthkaul3981

      Very good comparison but I think an even more close one in terms of story and playstyle would be Andy Murray.

    • @vampirewilde
      @vampirewilde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with Hikaru's analogy. Roddick reached four Grand Slam finals and was defeated each time by Federer - Wimbledon (2004, 2005, 2009) and at the US Open (2006). Whereas the Murray/Federer rivalry wasn't as one sided. For example Murray beat Federer to win gold at the Olympics in 2012, and beat him again the following year at the Aussie Open when the Fed Express was at the peak of his powers.

    • @vampirewilde
      @vampirewilde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smarthkaul3981 No analogy is perfect but again it doesn't quite work. Murray has the best record against the Big 3. He faced Novak Djokovic 36 times, winning 11 matches. Against Federer he won 11 out of 25 matches and beat Nadal seven times out of 24. Hikaru has had basically no success against the Magnus in the same way Roddick had zero success against Federer. So the comparison makes sense. Murray vs the Big 3 is more like Hikaru vs Magnus, Nepo and Firouzja, which probably doesn't work either tbh.

      White knight and pawn guard f7, g7 and h7 which means white rook to a8 is checkmate. Only way for black to postpone this is to give up material which ultimately loses because the white pawn on h6 will queen at some point.

    • @scottwilson940

      Checkmate coming in a couple moves with the rook going to the 8th rank. Pawn and knight block the escape squares. Also white has a passed A pawn which is a big advantage even without the checkmate possibilities.

    This is not just blind 'hating' but more a serious question: Can anyone explain to me why we have one commentator that seems to be incredibly outclassed in both Chess knowledge and eloquence when there's an amazing 4th person available in the form of Ms. Houska?
    I feel like the broadcast is good, but hard to engage with, simply because the contrast in knowledge and capability often makes the show cringy and hard to enjoy. I would check another option, but then I lose out on the amazing commentary of the rest of the crew.
    In the case of this tournament it was incredibly sad to see Ms. Houska so infrequently, when in reality, it seems that she should be the one in the chair giving commentary that extends beyond, 'Oh look the bar.'
    That said, I wish that person a very safe and joyful end to her pregnancy, and hope that she finds her ideal place in the world of journalism. Unfortunately I don't believe that place is on this broadcast team.

      Do you seriously think these are all UK accents lol? I don’t think that they root for Magnus. I do think that they think he is a better player though, which is understandable. I personally was rooting for Hikaru but, as HN said, “the chess speaks for itself!”

      Lol there is 1 American 1 Indian 1 Norwegian and 1 Brit. Why does being from the UK mean someone is biased to root for Magnus, a Norwegian?

    Nakamura beats So, loses to Carlsen, gets knocked down into the losers bracket, beats So again, then loses to Carlsen again. I think we have our pecking order, folks.

    "How lucky Messi and Ronaldo are to be Hikaru and Magnus" - the female commentator has no clue what she's been talking about. Ronaldo and Messi together won 12 times best player award and dominating football for more than two decades. I think it's pure stupidity to even make a joke like that.

      Magnus has been world champion for 12 years by himself so maybe combined they equal Magnus’ accolades. Hard to compare chess w players in a team sport
