The Sheikh is a blessing for all of us.. especially for some of us who probably would never have the opportunity to attend Zytuna, or even be part of his lecture session, but who cannot stop yearning for his voice, wisdom and modesty. I listen to his speaches literally every day and that does not seem enough. In any case may the Almighty afford him and colleagues stamina and health to continue the work they are doing for some of us on the other side of the divide. Ameen.
humza yusuf has helped me soo much to understand islam and Allah in the real sense that Allah is really merciful and most wise......scholars of today fail to explain laws of islam correctly coz they themselves have a wrong perspective of Allah....thanks shaykh humza
Love the words of sheikh, this video was made 11 years ago and still it holds the most important stuffs in today's world. I also make videos about the Quran where I talk about the Quran and I want to reach more audience with it as well and by seeing these books so big, my respect has grown bigger to the scholars and one day I wish to be a scholar as well thank you Shaykh Hamza for guiding me to the straight path.
Usually after listening to a lecture by Sh. Hamza Yusuf I feel dejected, since he is extremely critical of the Western way of life, and I consider myself to be a 'westernized' Muslim, or implies that us average Muslims cannot ever grasp a good understanding of Islam. However, towards the end he started talking about the potential for intelligence in all people, which was uplifting. Anyway, this was a wonderful lecture, I've learned a lot and hope to become a better reader. can't wait for part II
At around 11:00 when you discuss pre-requisites. Absolutely agree. I spent a long time figuring out how to understand the Qur'an, the English translations are archaic and regular terms like 'worship' aren't defined. It's sad there's this massive gap and what felt like no guidance to bridging it.
it was extremely interesting to watch this awesome learning experience. thanks a billion n Jazakumullahu khairan kaseera for this effort to make it possible for people like me to learn what I crave for and am unable to get otherwise..... love u all
@Zaytuna, Alhamdulillah May Allah reward all those associated with zaytuna and especially May Allah give long life and health to Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and increase him in his knowledge.
wow SubhanAllah. he was so right about how we judge authors because of our own viewpoints (A Keynesian might disagree with a Monetarist just because he is a monetarist). When Shaykh Hamza said to read that poem by Percy Shelley, I already started making assumptions because Shelley was an atheist.
@helloimkhadijah, you don't need to have a facebook account to watch the live broadcast. You can access the broadcast link from the public, Zaytuna College Facebook page, or you can go to the ustream (dot tv) website and enter a search for Zaytuna College and you can watch on our channel there inshallah.
This is an amazing lecture. It just bothers me to see these people (especially the girls), when asked, they're cold and passive as stone. This is an opportunity to ask questions and interact with such an educated lecturer!!
@Zaytuna Would someone please ask the Shaikh what we should take into consideration with regards to reading the book by Mortimer Adler if we can't manage to have the first edition which he recommends (it seems it's quite rare and expensive too) but manage to get the 1967 reprint? Is there anything we're missing out on, or anything changed that was better off in the earlier print for example?
The tradition of Talab al-Ilm in Muslim history has always stressed the primacy of reading a book under the tutelage of a teacher / scholar as compared to the student who gets his knowledge directly from books without a mentor / teacher. ONLY after gathering enough knowledge from Mujaalasat al Ulamaa does reading becomes fruitful and positive. This is because Islamic tradition stresses the importance of reliability and authenticity and piety in the sacred act of transmitting religious knowledge, hence the high level of preservation of texts and knowledge in the Islamic tradition, with the QURAN being the gold standard of all time and all books.
@ashmi89 wa alaykum salaam, Shaykh Hamza will deliver Part 2 of this lecture on Wednesday, Fe 15 inshallah. Visit the Zaytuna College Facebook page to watch the live broadcast.
@ zaytuna can you suggest what book written by Ibn Khaldun that suggested by Hamza so i can read it, cuz hamza had made my brain into a state of poverty. Jazzakallah khair
you know whats funny i went to uni, and quoting from books is now frowned upon, they prefered us to quote from "updated" info such as journals , newspapers.
assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh afwan how does seikh comment for fast reading and how do seikh advise for fast reading competitions? thank you
What a book did Shaikh Hamza read? What's the title of the book that he was talking about in the beggining. The one with the blue cover. Thank you. Salamou3alaykoum.
The point of "mockery" he made is so true now in 2024 especially like the era of memes and reels everyone is mocking everyone, everything,i ligit saw someone made edit of epstein and his island😐
