Ahead of #RHSHamptonCourt 2023, award-winning exhibitors Harkness Roses let us in on some of their secrets, and shared their top tips to grow and care for roses in your garden:
1. Pick the right location in your garden or green space, to make sure your roses will have enough space to grow and have daily access to plenty of sunlight.
2. Prepare the ground for your roses. Do a good mulch in the spring using well-rotted manure or compost you made in your compost bin. Read our advice on how to go peat-free: www.rhs.org.uk/soil-composts-...
3. Prune your roses twice a year, in autumn and spring. Pruning heights will vary depending on the rose variety. Find out more in our pruning guide: www.rhs.org.uk/plants/roses/p...
4. Keep your roses in good health. Pick disease-resistant varieties, keep your roses well watered and well fed, and allow them to get at least 4 hours of light every day.
5. Remember to deadhead your roses in summer to boost flowering!

Francesca is dreamy
such a nice clear presentation - i grew many roses from cuttings very simply - scraped the skin - 20 cm hole in our clay earth - and into the hole - no rooting agent - the plants wanted to live - about 80 % success - you seem on an industrial level - beautiful roses from what i could see - thank you for posting

I am R.A Dogar very beautiful rose garden , thank you very much , Francesca
It's so valuable to hear this information from professionals. And I especially liked the way Phillip counted (out loud) the number of snips and plucks...you always remember this kind of demonstration. What I'd like to know is the composition of the "compost" ...is it actually pure compost from a compost pile, or is this a word for soil mix (could you name the ingredients?).
This flower in my country is often used as an offering flower for the dead, they will be buried with the corpse to preserve the scent of the corpse.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, from PNG.

Thank you so much for helpful advice. It looks easy but in a weather like UK , it’s not that simple to grow anything from cuttings. They die out very quickly or gone black at the base.
In hot weather its harder, everything dries out
Thank you for this useful info, I have tried this many times and it hadn't work, could the time of cuttings make a difference? and what sort of good compose should one use?
This is the first time I heard something after the good propagation, pruning it back to 5 cm left. Would love to know when will be the good time to prune young shoot? Mine young shoot is about 20-30 cm, when should I prune it back to 5 cm? Thanks you.
This girl is seriously cute
can i put the cutting directly into the ground and cover it with a bottle to retain moisture
Would you leave the fall cuttings outside in your garden when the weather gets as low as -15. Or is it better to have them in a cool room in your house. I live in Canada. On Vancouver Island where the weather is similar to England.
Is it necessary to use hormone powder and if its not available are there any alternatives we can use?
Honey is an option
Can I buy some of this cutting's?.
I live mine in water and come lieavs ho to get roots
We have an old rose "tree" that broke in the storm two weeks ago. The base stem broke. I am planning to leave the base stem as is and see what happens next spring. Is it possible to save the broken top stem? The stem is about 6-8 cm wide and has many many branches.
Oh no! I hope you get lots of new growth this spring and summer.
Thanks the reason I can't hear very well
I live in the Mediterranean and almost all sprouted! how can i make them grow faster?
