One of the things that still irritated me about the change Fallout 3 made with the Brotherhood of Steel DLC is that if you pick the logical choice and have any of the number of radiation immune sidekicks go in and deal with the water filtration thing you STILL get the coward's ending as if you chose Sara to do it.
Now, he needs to make one with shockingly lazy NPC missions. An example is from Mega Man Legends, where you basically go around the corner to literally get something and bring it back. Yes, there is no shooting and jumping involved, and if you did this mission, you would screm, that is probably the laziest NPC of all time.
The Pokemon Champions -- pretty much all of them. Many of the games have criminal organizations with nefarious plots that go beyond organized crime to the point of threatening the region at large. The Pokemon Champions are renown for being formidable opponents who know how to handle a fight, and I think Cynthia is the only one who actually steps up to help the player fight Team Galactic. There are anime adaptations that retell the events of these world threatening catastrophes that say "Hey, maybe the champions and gym leaders should actually get off thier butts and do something."
Kanto, no Champion until the end Johto Lance fights against team rocket with player. Hoenn Steven fights alongside trainer in Emerald at the Mossdeep Space Center. I dont remember Cynthia helping for Sinnoh Unova, Alder got beaten by N and all the gym leaders showed up to fight in BW1, Kalos, Diantha did nothing Alola, Trial Captains show fight against the Ultra BEasts that show up Galar, Leon did Everything Paldea, Geeta does nothing so some did not much, but a lot did indeed fight in some way this is based on memory so forgive if i got something wrong
I ran a game in a similar vein, where the Gym Boss struggled to balance work and fighting the teams, though you also have the teams not entering the gyms themselves, making it 'the outside world's problem'
I argue against that suggestion Jules, Clive would have totally flung himself head first to try and deal with Ultima if Joshua told him about it also he would blame himself for everything much earlier too if he told him and given Ultima's end goal was break Clive's Will how much easier would it be to do if he convinced him that everything bad that happened to everyone around him if he knew about him earlier
to think moneybags was bad then you didnt think of the basterd hunter in spyro 2 and 3. he has some orbs AND eggs you NEED to fight the boss in both games
Preston in FO4 could have saved you many headaches, and stopped himself from becoming one of the most infamous npcs of all time, if he had simply asked some of the other minute men to check in on some of those settlements instead of expecting you to do literally all of the work. Preston is second in command, under you, with access to radios, and could just as easily ask one of the various groups of minute men npcs you can encounter or even summon to check in on these settlements while you are busy trying to save the commonwealth.
Yen Sid from Kingdom Hearts fits this criteria. He knew more than he was letting on, was supposedly on equal footing or better than Xehanort and Eraques in terms of skill but does nothing besides half-assed training everyone for a fight that could have been avoided if he simply pointed out the the elephant in the room
No 9. El. You wander away from the torn body of your guardian, Gorion, slain by a mysterious monster of a man in metal armour. Perhaps alone, perhaps with your friend Imoen and perhaps with some other, more dubious individuals, you continue along the way to Bergost, now the route back to Candlekeep is closed. Suddenly, you hear a sound. "Ho there, wanderer. Stay thy course a moment to indulge an old man." ...says the single most powerful character in all of Faerun, who could solve this and any other Baldur's Gate adventure without breaking a sweat.

I know she isn't a video game character, but Delores from Encanto ABSOLUTELY INFURATES ME! Like everything could have been avoided if she would have spoke up or shut up respectively.
In the second part of Divinity 2 Ego Draconis, Flames of Vengeance, the very annoying Bellegar keeps attacking you to stop you freeing the Demon. Right near the end you can tell him you don't want to free it but you need its power. Then the git offers you his instead. If he had only talked to you earlier not only would you get to the final battle earlier but the Demon would be still sealed away completely!
You have reminded me of something else, my magnificent chromedomed friend. Whether you're talking about Roman Bellic and his incessant need for bowling or being the leader of a national guard that insists on sending its general out to handle everything... There are side quests and NPCs that actively and consistently derail main quest lines for things they should be able to handle on their own... I'm looking at you Preston Garvey. Example, you're halfway through the Fort to take care of your Kellogg problem... All of sudden you see "sanctuary is under attack". You have two options here, you can turn around... Leave the main mission... And get back to sanctuary in time for all of your heavily-armed companions, the minutemen, and all of the settlers that you spent an inordinate amount of time to arm and armor up to udderly squash the invading Force the moment you materialize... Or you continue on your mission to find your kid, only to find out that once you usher in the entrance of the brotherhood... You discover that your extremely overpowered group of soldiers, companions, and settlers were handily defeated themselves... Because you weren't there to watch.

I have some thoughts on what Jules said, but ultimately she doesn't belong on this list because the argument boils down to 'she shouldn't act how she was written.' That would be like saying 'Arthur Morgan could have avoided TB if he had just decided not to do any missions for Strauss' Or 'the entirety of the Megaman franchise could have been avoided if Dr. Wiley just acted like a good guy.' You can apply the argument to literally every character in existence. 'If only Andrew Ryan were a little more altruistic and didn't make Rapture, Jack never would have gotten his head rewired.' 'If only Sephiroth hadn't gone ballistic after finding out his origin, then maybe he wouldn't have tried to kill the planet.' It's just such weak reasoning.

He's basically implied to be as close to omnipotent as possible within the confines of witcher lore, which means he can technically solve everyone's problems on a whim but doesn't...because he's a dick. I haven't played most of the games covered here, but Jules just makes it so real. He and his editor are just fire.... I just really enjoy his takes on games, but his little talk at the end of each video helps ignite that little fire inside.

The real kicker with Fawkes is that the only way you can have him there… …is by freeing him. Which he repays by offering to walk to the GECK. Specifically because it’s irradiated and would (in theory) kill you. It’s very obviously railroading, regardless of your opinions on the theme of the ending.
Times the right thing was the wrong thing to do. Fallout 3 also has a good example of this: you can convince the residents of Tenpenny Tower to not be racist and let the local ghoul community live in the tower with them. Then in just three days, the ghouls repay the kindness by killing every human in the tower.

How about Funky Kong in every DKC game aside from the Switch port of Tropical Freeze? The ape's proven he's clearly the most capable and competent member of the DK crew several times over, with the ability to make machines and firearms out of coconut and barrel tech, and New Funky Mode proves he's a beast in combat. If he wasn't so laid-back, he could've flown right into K. Rool's hideout and beaten up the Kremling king himself.
Ah Jules ... Nightwolf wasn't technically an NPC in Mortal Kombat (2011) nor the mobile game Freddy Krueger was in. You could literally chose to play as him instead.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Elminster shows up as you enter act 2. Sure, the drama in Act 1 was pretty simple, so I gave him a pass. He could have easily dealt with the issues in act 2 and 3 on easy mode. He complains about his walk, tells us to stay the course, and tells Gale to sacrifice himself. Could have given Gale a new staff or something. Even Mizora gives Wyll a new weapon. Come on!

so you know, your cat was headbutting you because it was checking on you. it wanted to know if you were still alive. cats are light sleepers and get worried about their humans when we sleep because humans tend to be fairly heavy sleepers. at least compared to them. so when your cat does that or is extremely affectionate in the mornings or whatever. they either are concerned about you, or are happy you survived your sleep and are alive.
I don’t know know if this is true or just a fan theory about the merchant in RE4 but I’ve heard that the reason he has red glowing eyes is because he is also infected with Las Plagas. But it doesn’t affect him like it does with the rest of the population. But in short he’s a non sensical character put in place to help you because the devs decided to put him in the game so stop trying to find a reason why he’s not helping Leon 😂

Maybe some of them are the unsung heroes. Without their interference and bad decisions, the main character would be twiddling thumbs in a cave somewhere waiting for life to happen.
The only suggestion I have at the moment is the hardest animal deaths had to see. Fact that I replayed games just because I've messed up and watched my animal companions die.
Maybe the merchant is the true villain and actually knew about the virus and possibly was the one to create, a mad scientist that has built up a cache of all sort and special lanterns and lights to sit back and watch the money roll in hahah

How about Funky Kong in every DKC game aside from the Switch port of Tropical Freeze? The ape's proven he's clearly the most capable and competent member of the DK crew several times over, with the ability to make machines and firearms out of coconut and barrel tech, and New Funky Mode proves he's a beast in combat. Baldur's Gate 3 - Elminster shows up as you enter act 2. Sure, the drama in Act 1 was pretty simple, so I gave him a pass. He could have easily dealt with the issues in act 2 and 3 on easy mode. He complains about his walk, tells us to stay the course, and tells Gale to sacrifice himself. Could have given Gale a new staff or something. Even Mizora gives Wyll a new weapon. Come on!

I don’t know know if this is true or just a fan theory about the merchant in RE4 but I’ve heard that the reason he has red glowing eyes is because he is also infected with Las Plagas. But it doesn’t affect him like it does with the rest of the population. But in short he’s a non sensical character put in place to help you because the devs decided to put him in the game so stop trying to find a reason why he’s not helping Leon 😂

You should do, "the NPCs that would have been a better love interest for the protagonist, rather than the canonically chosen one, in the story".
Maybe some of them are the unsung heroes. Without their interference and bad decisions, the main character would be twiddling thumbs in a cave somewhere waiting for life to happen.
The only suggestion I have at the moment is the hardest animal deaths had to see. Fact that I replayed games just because I've messed up and watched my animal companions die.
