Decap Attack was another good Halloween game. You covered Ghosts n Goblins, Splatterhouse and Castlevania as some of my favorite horror themed games from the 16 bit era. I'm a huge fan of early RE(0,1,2,3,CVX,4) so I always make it a point to play them around this time of year. Great selection and vid, Aaron. Thank _you_ for the great content. 🤘
It's honestly kind of dated by today's standards. Ghost Master is a much better, newer take on the idea. I think there's patches that make it more playable and less Evil Genius/Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines level of jank it was on release. I'd love a new Polterguy/Ghost Master type game though. Come on indie developers! Pick up the slack where AAA have dropped it! Give us the 'Stardew Valley' of ghost management games! :P
Here is my Top 10 list of Sega Genesis games that I like to play on Halloween: #10 - Altered Beast #9 - Splatterhouse 2 #8 - Alien Storm #7 - Haunting: Starring Poulter-Guy #6 - Zombies Ate My Neighbors #5 - Splatterhouse 3 #4 - DeCap Attack: Starring Chuck D. Head #3 - Ghouls 'N Ghosts #2 - Castlevania: Bloodlines #1 - Ghostbusters
The time limit is not a problem in Splatter House 3 you simply have to follow doors that have a Yellow marking on the map. Yellow doors transport you to the end of the level quicker than any other route.
I just have to say I’ve been watching your channel for a year and a half now and I’ve loved it ,it’s been amazing. I love all your reviews and gameplay footage .it’s a win-win in all aspects. you’re very good at what you do keep up the awesome videos. Thank you very much.watching from east coast canada 🇨🇦
Awesome Aaron just awesome! I'm over here smiling ear to ear. Not only did you have Bloodlines but you incorporated my favorite stage and music! I never played Zombies ate my neighbors but I so want to now! Thank you so much for this video. Have a great day!
Aaron, Love the Channel! Todd's Slime World was a great Genesis game. I think I commented this before. Not necessarily a scary game, but gross. And, a great 2 player game. The one player campaign is cool as well. Anyway, I wish I could play some old games with ya! Like going to my friend's house, next door. Splatterhouse 3 was Awesome! Rented that a bunch back in the day. Happy Halloween, Dude!
Jay and I tried to play Todd's Slime World after you mentioned it before. We were gonna record a video for it... but to be honest the video was kinda not watchable because the game is so glitchy and wonky lol. At least our version was, maybe we were doing something wrong. We just kept getting stuck and didn't make it very far and Jay's guy kept going the wrong way lol. It looked like a really cool idea for a game though. My Sega controllers were acting up at the time too so that may have had something to do with it. Cheers, mate!
I never got around to renting any of these 6. But one I did however was called Beware The Ultimate Evil of Warlock. it's a game based off the Warlock horror movies in which you play a druid who acquires magic spells along the way and uses them to defeat enemies and end bosses. it has a password system but I believe it kinda screws you over in some way and you'd be better off trying to beat in one sitting.
Ahhh Ghouls N Ghosts been playing it since it was released and can play it blind folded. still after all these years I can't get enough of this game....
Wow! I actually have all of these games. One point, however. In Splatterhouse 3, she is not your girlfriend, she is your wife, and your young son, David, has been taken as well. You need to be careful, because it is possible to be able to save one and not the other. The best outcome if to save them both, but losing either or both gives you one of the most tragic feeling endings. This is really an amazing game when it comes right down to it. I also have the Turbo Grafix-16 version of Splatterhouse. It's a shame the entire series was never released on the same platform.
I used to love all of these games, especially Zom bies ate my neighbors on the Snes, also Haunting starring Polterguy on Genesis was one of my fav games if I could find it to rent, it was very unique for it's day.
I loved Haunting & Z.A.M.N. as a kid, but could never beat them. I found the splatter house games later as an adult, and enjoyed beating them! Nice list!
Oh man; Haunting starring Polterguy is great; I spent countless hours on that one. Have you ever played the SEGA Master System of Ghouls & Ghosts? It's very different from the rest of the series; you can find hidden rooms that let you upgrade your weapon, boots (better jumping), helmet (new magic), and even armor (ADDS A LIFE BAR!).
Resident evil 1&2 on the original PlayStation. As a kid that first cutscene in the first game always scared the hell out of me. Those games were just so atmospheric to me at the time.
Glad this came up in my recommendation list. All these are great games to play, but there's 3 more I'd play during Halloween Season. Decap Attack, Chakan, and Garfield caught in the act, Mainly cause of the Dracula, Pirate, and Mummy stages.
Never really found games to be scary. However the first Silent Hill game was unnerving especially in the school when the things kept fading in and out in the dark. Also remember playing resident evil 3, when Nemesis would follow you into a room or burst in through a window kind of startled me lol.
I'm pretty sure splatterhouse the first one was released on the turbo graphics 16 which was competition to the Sega Genesis. That happens in 1990 or 1989. I remember this because the turbo graphics 16 was my second console, my first being the Nintendo entertainment system with that robot, the gun, two games super Mario Bros and legend of Zelda and two control pads. Sega Genesis was my third console.
This is way late, but Zero Tolerance is another creepy game. A FPS that's fun with a high replay value. Especially fighting the last boss. A huge area with doors as your battleground and the creature chases you opening those doors.
Seems rather unfair for Polterguy to scare the whole family when it was only Mr Sardini who screwed him over. Consider how much more sinister it would be to just scare Mr Sardini only, and then have his family think he's gone insane.
@@FridayNightArcade I think his kids are probably raised like that: Spoiled, probably bullies because "your father is the rich industry giant", probably corrupt so teachers and cops don't do anything. I love this channel! Here are a few fun games to check out: NES: River City Ransom (you punch your way to your girlfriend) and Astyanax (bizarre cut scenes). SNES: Terranigma (my God, the stort) and Earthbound (just super fun and creative).
Thank you for the kind words. Excellent choices and thank you for sharing! Glad you're enjoying the show! I enjoyed River City Ransom a lot and need to do a review on it at some point - my buddy and I did a playthrough over on my side channel although we didn't know what we were doing :D
As a 96 baby i only got to play like 2 of these games 1 being zombie ate my neighbor and that was my favorite as a kid i used to play on pc all the time
Any Ghosts and Goblins game is brutally difficult. I never beat any of them, but I did get to Level 6 on the NES version. Sadly, it’s sadistic enough of a game that savestates don’t even help you that much.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a great game to play with a friend and drink a lot of beers while playing. Poulterguy is a great game to smoke weed while playing.
Is this a real Splatterhouse 3 cart? Perhaps a PAL version? I have _never_ seen that "Fairlight" subtitle before, however, I have only played the Japanese version. In the Japanese version, only "Splatterhouse PART 3" is displayed in the title screen. The title screen in the american version is completely different, as it is simply called "Splatterhouse 3" as seen here: th-cam.com/video/i7gd2xIxycM/w-d-xo.html I am very curious as to why it is called fairlight here.
FWIW: World of longplays _also_ has video footage of this "Fairlight" version, perhaps running on real hardware (?): th-cam.com/video/EDjZEWrNWHw/w-d-xo.html does anyone have any information on where this fairlight version came from?
One game I always thought was scary but a lot of fun and pretty in depth on the Sega Genesis was Snatcher. Biggest reason I watched this video was to see if it made the list.
Snatcher was a Mega CD game, not released solely for the Genesis. So it is technically not qualified to be on this list. By the way I was looking for Chakan: The Forever Man.
The play control on splatter house 2 www perfect bro. I best the game a million times on the Hardest setting. I think people are actually complaining about how you can get hit multiple when you get hit by one enemy which is what happens in games like this. This game is just like that Kung Fu game for nes
Only Ghost n Goblins game I ever really gotten into was Gargoyle's Quest II; recently found out it was a spinoff. 😅 Good soundtrack. Will sometimes play it instead of whatever Kemco RPG's I'm playing at the time.
Great list! I would maybe suggest Mystic Defender, even though it's not strictly Halloween, but that game is just really messed up and gruesome. Also, if you don't mind japan-exclusive games I would suggest Dahna: Megami Tanjou as well. It's a very violent action platformer that is inspired by greek mythology and has you riding Frankenstein's monster among other creatures.
You forgot to include "The Ooze" for Sega Genesis now that game is spooky - freaked out a lot of people back in the day, you might also want to include "Toxic Crusaders".
@@FridayNightArcade I never owned a genesis growing up, but I played it a lot at my friends houses. I was born in 81', so I was lucky enough to grow up while videogames grew up. Another great video! Another fun(ish) scary game on the Sega as well as SNES was Warlock. Great intro screen and death screen. You play as a young sorcerer fighting an evil witch, who turns humans into zombies, dogs into hellhounds, brings Gargoyle statues to life. You fight demons, ravens, bats, giant spiders. You even go to a Haunted castle fighting ghosts. Get caught between a side-battle between the witch and another evil sorcerer who shapeshift into monsters. yes decap attack, I think that may have been a US only game as its a reskin of a preexisting game (edit it was in europe as well, thanks wikipedia)
Zombies are my neighbors was one of my favorites. Had it for SNES
It's zombies ATE my neighbors. But I'm sure that was just autocorrected.
I wanted that game so bad when I saw it advertised lol
Way better on SNES
They have both games on Xbox live now. Never played the sequel so I will check it out.
@@captainmartin1219 yep. Bought it last week
Zombies Ate My Neighbors was a banger.
Many a fight between me and my brothers on who got to play the Boy in Co-op.

Lmao 🤣. I played with my sister so there was no problem.
I’m going to have to check out that Polterguy game.
It's also on the EA collection for PSP and probably other media as well
I didn't really do it justice in a 90-second blurb and definitely want to back and do a full analysis at some point.

#9 - Splatterhouse 2
#8 - Alien Storm
#7 - Haunting: Starring Poulter-Guy
#6 - Zombies Ate My Neighbors
#5 - Splatterhouse 3
#4 - DeCap Attack: Starring Chuck D. Head
#3 - Ghouls 'N Ghosts
#2 - Castlevania: Bloodlines
#1 - Ghostbusters
That's a damn perfect list.
The sound and sprites of splatter house 3 have some of the creepiest tones and looks on the genesis and video games in general
I’m surprised The Immortal didn’t get a mention. That was a scary and atmospheric game to play as a kid.
That was Genesis... I covered the NES version in one of my other episodes.
Yes...That giant spider in the tunnel and its babies...The horror!
The Immortal is awesome on Sega Genesis!
Also extremely gory for it’s time.
I loved the Polterguy game when I was a kid! Wow! It takes me back! Thanks man. 👍 :)
It was my favorite! Haunting was fresh and different and there has never been anything quite like it.
Me too bro my neighbor showed me it when I was teen years lol and Chakan the forever man, and Hook were the 3 games all good ones
That game was fun as heck. I played it on both on NES and Sega Genesis.
