Your explanations are so appreciated. I'm a late in life beginner, but your video is so much more appealing than the discouraging videos that are out there. You've made this so approachable it makes me not want to give up.
create a box, then right click on box-> convert to edit poly. then go into polygon mode(press 4). Edit poly is on its own a very different way of modeling so see some basic tutorials first.
Don't know it well enough to comment. I'm sure you can do similar things. I don't think their smart extrude is as robust but it is all about how well you know your software. I use Max as it is the most used software and I can find the most work using it.
Nothing is working right on my end. The ribbon's not showing the menu options yours is, I do not get a "create" menu option when I right-click, and for some weird reason, the polygon I did manage to draw (via the rectangle creation tool), will not allow me to move the vertices in a freeform fashion. I.e., I can only move them by moving their manipulator axes controls. GGRRRRRRRRRR
@@paulneale Could to find any menu options that allowed me to set up the ribbon the way you did, with the options showing that you have in the video. Right-clicking does not bring up a "Create" submenu. The Create menu does not seem to have an option for me to simply draw a polyplane in place. So, I made a rectangular plane and then converted it to an editable poly.
@@keithyakouboff8755 I dragged the ribbon and placed it on the side of my Max that is all. All the tools can be dragged and docked where you want them.

I've watched a million 3DS Max modeling tutorials, there was always at least one thing I didn't know
Thanks for the great tutorials
I think that is the same for all of us as there are so many possibilities that no one person can know them all.
Paul, i have to say this, these tutorials are gold. Keep them coming, that's a big help to everyone's future.

I'm sure you can. Just remove the subdivisions.
How do you just create a Polygon ? I have a plane / sphere etc. but no polygon.

whats your opinion on Blender for this type of work?

I added the main menu bar to my quad. It is also at the top and in the create panel.

You have all the same tools I do in the ribbon. Just keep looking. I don't have anything else loaded that you don't already have.
Why do you create a box then delete it ?
Turn your sound on and listen to it.
