This video explains how the gender of child can be determined in three ways

Why a child of a particular gender (either male or female) is continuously born in a family for generations.
There is a theory that only male child borns more than female kids, whenever there is a war. This theory is called Returning Soldier effect and is explained in detail the same way the scientist has described it.
If a man is born with many sisters or brothers, there is more possibility of having a female kid in the next generation.
Overall this video explains the role of alleles, mm & mf genes - how they determine the gender of a kid, how the gender can be find out by knowing the alleles and the family history.

You and your brother in law might be got "f" from your mother. So both of you get combinations of m and f
The possibility of having a girl or boy child is equal. 50% of male gametes are Y type and 50% are of X type. Fusion of egg with X type sperm will produce a girl child. So, we can't predict the gender. (I think, all the things said in this video may be just a hypothesis)
Absolute same case here. There were no daughters for 2 generations in my husband's family. Now my husband, his brother and all of their cousin brothers have no sons. All have daughters.
Large sample size is needed, single case is not valid it's not hypothesis it's proven data. U can check internet for research papers

I have gone through your reference it was very old in 2009 and it was a model hypothesis. you didn't get any recent reference? If this is true and also it's an interesting topic to study more, there should be a lot more references and recent studies.
