I agree about Queen Sabran. She felt so fleshed out there were times when reading that I felt like she had her own perspective and then looked back and realized she never did
Really loved this book, I know it's a thick boy but the world was so well realized. The author made you believe in folklore they created and the way it was woven throughout the story. The ending was a bit iffy but overall really loved it.
I've been debating about reading this book because I always hear mixed reviews about it, but now that you said it wraps up well, I'm going to give it a chance 😊
@4alarmfire_ I don't actually understand the last sentence about Tané (CAREFULL SPOILERS AHEAD). Like did she killed herself, or she got attacked and killed/wounded ? It doesn't make sense at all and it's quite frustrating to be left with that mystery
@@4alarmfire_ This! I don't hate Niclays but there are a lot of his chapters that were basically useless (him insulating Sulyard for pages or simply doing stuff in his house while complaining about how much he hates being confined in Orisima) and could've been used to give more space to Tané and to her relationship with Naymathun. They were so cute but their relationship felt rushed, even if it is still wholesome
This review was really helpful. I’m on page 170 now and I wanted to start over when I was around page 60 because I didn’t understand a lot of what was being introduced. I’m enjoying it but it’s definitely challenging me to keep up with who did what and why. Definitely a slow read but I’m glad you posted this!
Thank you for a great review. I started this book 2 days ago. Even if I'm confused with a lot of characters I somehow got into it fast. And I love that you speak really fast btw.
Ok... Bad reader confession time.... I bought this book because it looked beautiful and because it is a long book 😂....but im glad I watched this! It sounds good!
I haven't read it yet... it's just sitting on my virtual shelf collecting digital dust bunnies... 🤔 I think I may make it a summer reading priority. 🤷♀️We shall see So many books...📚📚📚🥰📚📚📚
I'm so excited that you read the Priory. It was by far my favourite book that I read in 2020 even though I have to admit that I didnt read many AND that I'm not a critical reader at all. As far as the ending goes, I didnt really mind that some of the bigger Plotpoints got resolved so quickly because it felt sooo satisfying to see how all the different storylines came together so perfectly in the end!
I loved everything about this book, except Roos. I HATED him, I didn’t care about him, and sure as hell didn’t want a a happy ending for him. But Ead and Sabran has my heart, and Tane is just AMAZING. It was just the right book at the right time!
I literally just finished this book and even though I did really enjoy it, I agree that it could/should have been more than one book. The end conflict felt super rushed and there are some things I think could have been expanded on, I kind of think they wanted to use the 'standalone fantasy' as a selling point when it would have worked better as a series! Also, I got so confused with all of the characters (mostly all the other rulers) but maybe that was because I didn't pay enough attention, however I do wonder if I would have been able to keep track better if there was more than one book and more room to get to know them 😂 overall I agree with you though, it was very enjoyable and well done and I'll definitely pick up more of her work, especially ones in this world!
I personally didn't like the book because I didn't really get the storyline and the characters (sometimes) seemed to me rushed. But I absolutely loved some of the characters especially Tané and Ead
I have not read much fantasy, however this book keeps coming up and is highly recommended. Do you have to be a heavy fantasy reader to tackle this read?
Is prior around the orange tree a standalone or part of a trilogy? I see on Goodreads it says book 1 and A Day of Fallen Night: A Roots of Chaos Novel (The Roots of Chaos) Hardcover book 0 is comeing out in 2023 and whatever book 3 is is comeing out I don’t know but it dose t say if it’s part of a Duology or what on Amazon. But it does on Goodreads.
This book has been on my list since it came out but I'm intimidated by it because it's so thick. And lately I've been seeing the Bone Season everywhere!
omg, can you PLEASE read The Bone Season?? I need you're thoughts and feelings about every book! I think it is a very strong dystopian/fantasy series and I would consider it one of my favourites already, even though not all the books have even released yet.
What she needs to do is complete the damn series man. I read the first 2 books eons ago. And I thought it was one of my favorites too. But I’m not sure now. So much time has passed...Ugh😒
Just got this book because I've seen it everywhere online and I'm only like 6 chapters in. But I have no idea what's going on. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews and that it's a slow book.
I had the same problem, but me and two friends of mine started a small book club so we were all reading it. And it's not the kind of book you can't put down. It's a little bit hard to get into it because it takes a lot of time to read all about the beginning. But later it turns out to be way better than I thought. I really like it now :)
I have this book waiting for me in my tbr but I just haven't gotten to it yet. However, I have read Shannon's Bone Season series (at least the first three, book four came out earlier this year) I will say, her writing definitely grows throughout BS, since she wrote the first book when she was around 19 and it came out in 2013. However, she has said it's going to be quite a lengthy series, it's supposed to be seven books. I might do a series reread since there was like a three/four year gap between books three and four and I haven't read books one and two since the first time, so i could do with a refresh.
I absolutely loved this book but I had a lot of issues with the ending. I agree though that this could have been multiple books. This book is the only time I have ever wanted a book to not be a standalone but instead be a series because I just wanted more from the world! The history and lore and religion are all so deep that this world felt so real and I wanted to keep reading about all these characters and everything. I’m glad she is writing more in this world. I figured she would eventually because she’s created so much here that it’s a shame if it only gets one book. But on the other hand if she knew she was going to write more then I wish she would have split this up from the beginning. I think this is the only book on my “favorites” list that is at 4 stars instead of 5. There were too many problems for me to give it a 5, but I still love it so much and recommend it to everyone. Please do a spoiler review for this!
I have this book but, it's not on my list to read yet. On another note, I saw your video on TH-camrs and bloggers.
