Oh what a lovely coincidence. Just yesterday I was trapped in a big traffic jam which lasted more than 1,5 hours. I decided to spend the time listening to some chandos anthems. Had no clue I would be able to listen to all of them in a row. 😄 This is a far to little known collection of very exquisit anthems, often not much recognized even by many who are familiar with Handels oeuvre. And most of the anthems set an interesting focus on the solo tenor part, which is executed in the most exellent way by Ian Partridge in the reference recordings of these anthems with the Sixteen choir and orchestra. Would be lovely if someday, you'd set all of them into a video on this channel.😊
It is a pity Haendels' output consisted mostly of opera's, a genre that is totally out of date and very hard to appreciate nowadays. Directors try to ressuscitate it with grotesque post modern stagings but this makes it only more tedious and repulsive. Surely H was as much a genius as Bach.

Opera can be wonderful, if staged well. Unfortunately, most directors go, as you say, for grotesque stagings. What a pity that is...
