Custom built 5.0L V8 with 635-650 hp with a 7500 rpm limit. There is Holden, Ford, Nissan and Volvo but next year they are introducing turbo V6's and 4 cylinders, similar to the old 90's championship.
Is this v8 supercar series? Now they are bringing in boosted motors, I hate to say it but the days of all motor engines are coming to an end. Turbocharged motors produce more power/torque and get better mpg. I love the sound of all motor though. Even my 200hp 5.0 v8 sounds like sex.
No. It's because of pad knock off. It's the same reason why it's necessary to pump the brakes after a brake-pad change. In rallying they have a spring to prevent knock off, but it's not satisfactory for long distance driving, like touring car racing for example, compared to a 10 Km rally stage.
You guys should see Ricky Rudd’s heel n toe cam. This is good, but his form is slightly better and more entertaining to watch since the clutch is also needed for up shifts.
Alz Collier there is no advantage. It is just something you have to do if the characteristics of engine-throttle response require it, for smooth gearshifts. If he didn't blip enough, the driven wheels would skid a little bit, and that's IF the dogs in the dog engagement gearbox engage.
awesome1paul Fair enough. I have watched a video of Skaifey and he does double clutch when skipping down more than one gear. Goes it comes with the territory of being the team owner at the time, and being the one paying for the gearbox rebuilds! :)
Usually it's pressed a little bit harder and done 2 or 3 times in a row very quickly. It's a gentle pumping of the brakes. They do it to build up brake fluid pressure in the master cylinder. Although this reduces the distance that the brake pedal can be pushed, it allows the driver to basically 'stand on the brakes', pushing as hard as possible.
awesome1paul Haha, no... They do that to heat the pads and to check that the brakes are grabbing. Full race pads take some heat to work because they are designed for much higher heat loads. If these cars ran factory street pads they would have no pad left after a lap. Also in v8 super car they will some times do pad changes and you need to press the caliper pistons back out. Usually the pit crew will be on the radio to tell the driver when to pump the brakes after the new pads are in. Now with what you said to build pressure... The brakes are a hydraulic system that is blead, if they need to pump the brakes to get pressure then there is a leak or air somewhere and they would need to pit
Derek Frymire crompton and skaife always talk about 'pad knockoff' being the reason why they pump the brake pedals. funnily enough, i get that happening in my road car.
Jacob S also a big thing to ensure that there is a pedal, you don't want to be going 140-150 and realize at the last possible moment you have no brakes. a quick pedal tap is all you need to know that they indeed are "still there"
Thats one pretty smooth heel and toe, but not the best. Nothing like Keiichi Tsuchiya's footwork on a H-pattern gearbox Him onboard on a N2 AE86 Trueno th-cam.com/video/MfRy6R9-vj4/w-d-xo.html Another one on a JGTC Honda NSX th-cam.com/video/Iej2U6Z4MMc/w-d-xo.html
Well the difference between him and Tsuchiya is their way of sport cause Tsuchiya does drifting which requiers fast heel & toe while for him it is better to go slowly to have more grip.
The AE86 and the Honda he drove had wider tires and more grip to power/ grip to weight ratio. These heavy Nascars/V8 Supercars have 1000hp and skinny as fk tires, the SECOND you pull any fancy sh*t in these you're in the wall. I'm a big KT fan, but if you want to be fair you should compare with his Nascar footage.
I this the V8 Supercar? I don't know much about these cars but I noticed he doesn't use the clutch nor he's releasing the throttle when upshifting. Could anyone tell me why?
Even though these are H pattern gearboxes, as soon as the gear knob detects you're trying to pull it out of gear, it sends a signal to the engine to do an ignition cut (these are EFI engines) to take the load off of the transmission, so you can take it out of the current gear and quickly put it into the next one.
OstensiblyHuman they say it takes 40ms to do an upshift (the PDK in a 991 911 GT3 takes 100ms), and the ECU should know how many cylinder firings happen in 40ms at the RPM that the ignition cut is initiated in the form of pulling the gear knob.
No that's not the case. The ignition cut is just a way to take the load off of the transmission in order to be able to disengage the selector fork from the current gear. This is so that you wont need to decrease the throttle opening to take the load off, and thus can keep the engine intake air undisturbed in terms of flow from the throttle body to the cylinders, and thereby maintain maximum volumetric efficiency when the revs drop upon engagement of the next gear. Normally, reducing throttle opening also reduces volumetric efficiency, and that's bad if you want to immediately go back to wide open throttle now that the next gear has been selected, because there will be a little bit of lag in outright air flow and volume getting in the cylinders.
R. Kelly in this case, refers to Rick Kelly. Rick is one of the Kelly brothers in this race. People outside of america don't know why someone would find "r kelly" funny. I had to google that shit, and it turns out to be some singer.
That engine sound, God damn
+EscortSportage, yep. They certainly don't sound good from the onboard shots these days.
What engines are they running now? I dont really follow v8 supercar.
+EscortSportage 5 litre V8, around 600hp

The top
He touches the brake to clean, and heat the brakes to proper working temp, oh and to make sure there's "pressure" lol..
No. It's because of pad knock off. It's the same reason why it's necessary to pump the brakes after a brake-pad change. In rallying they have a spring to prevent knock off, but it's not satisfactory for long distance driving, like touring car racing for example, compared to a 10 Km rally stage.
awesome1paul The more you know
I thought left foot Tap was for weight shift, weight transfer towards the front wheels for better steering?
@@bayareapolecat9250 During cornering yes, but you can see him tapping the break long before breaking for the corner
jeetsupa they literally just do that to check if the brakes have failed, any other shit is bs because some of the drivers never do it
You guys should see Ricky Rudd’s heel n toe cam. This is good, but his form is slightly better and more entertaining to watch since the clutch is also needed for up shifts.
Nonsense
Just like a over the road tractor, no double clutching necessary. Just for down shifting or starting from a dead stop
Oh cool nice power shifting. Or "Flat Shifting" as the announcer calls it. I'm from the U.S. so I have always heard it called Power Shifting.
Our full term is flat foot shifting
yea we call it flat shifting or flat foot shifting. I say flat shifting
I remember watching this on TV god damn.
Muamin Hugsy haha same
this is so cool
0:28 I notice Rusty was "naughty" and didn't double clutch the shift from 5th gear to 2nd gear... lol :)
just wondering why would he need to double clutch going for 5th to 2nd is easier on the transmission?
+Alz Collier, actually you don't really need to, unless you didn't blip the throttle enough to match the revs.
Ok i see so what happen if he didnt blip enough an went from 5th to 2nd? An why is there a advantage into double clutching?
Alz Collier there is no advantage. It is just something you have to do if the characteristics of engine-throttle response require it, for smooth gearshifts.

That's a long ass brake travel
Taps brakes down the straight to mitigate pad knock off not check "pressure." if he has brake failure at that point, it's already too late.
Little bit easier on the up shift since he is rev matching up also.
Fatest heel and toe: me
For him fast heel & toe would be bad!
Do i need such nice shoes to do zis?
Why does he lightly touches the breake pedal around 0:25? He's not the first driver I've seen doing it.

awesome1paul Yeah, you're right. It's to re-seat the pads because they move a lot.
Jacob S also a big thing to ensure that there is a pedal, you don't want to be going 140-150 and realize at the last possible moment you have no brakes. a quick pedal tap is all you need to know that they indeed are "still there"

You are right ,he is much better at heel and toe ,amazing
It doesn't look like he's maintaining brake pressure when he blips the throttle, and yet he must be. Looks so awkward.
What kind of gearbox is that?
Im curious too, looks like semi-sequential, but i never saw gearbox that can gear-up by herself
Anyway where you say gearbox and where transmission?
+Monmon It only does it on upshifts?
On the older cars yes. However, the new generation Supercar has ingnition cut and auto blip when up and downshifting.
he shifts down from 5th to 2nd with the clutch but shifts up normally without clutch
Fuel cut in-between gears and manual sequential gearbox that uses the clutch only for take off and downshifts. Up shifts do not need the clutch
I this the V8 Supercar? I don't know much about these cars but I noticed he doesn't use the clutch nor he's releasing the throttle when upshifting. Could anyone tell me why?
Auto engine cut + dog box transmission

0:11 what the fuck is R Kelly doin there
No where near the best. watch Ricky Rudd on a road course.
I have seen that video, and i was just amazed, to bad they don't use the clutch while shifting in the race
This is good, but not even remotely in the "best" category.
make it all one legged and the car will be a war horse, joking
Lmao r Kelly

Not bad for sure but i've seen better !!
Not better than Senna that’s for sure
Boring .... look at Senna..!!
shut up
