I can remember watching Alain Oreille driving a Renault 5 Turbo and there was a camera under the seat, it was live watching Riverdance on speed, fantastic footage.
This made me sad to watch i remember I was just a kid when he died, I used to play Colin McRae rally 3 on my dads original Xbox religiously after school. Good days.
Superb driving, way beyond a normal mortal, whilst casually chatting away. And I could listen to that Focus all day, chirping away. I'm sure Colin would be delighted to know people are still enjoying him and his skills to this day.

Also she was a precision stunt driver! What a brilliant class from one of the all time greats...loved your dad, loved you! RIP Colin.
Learning rally is like learning snowboarding, no pain, no gain. These guys have slid off the road more times than most people will ever experience in a lifetime of driving. Just as a snowboarder will fall and tumble. The thrill of not wrecking or tumbling is what drives you to get better.

Sometimes for car shows when they do pedal cams they just film it separate from the driving footage. They just get the driver to push down the pedals to make it look synchronised.
Excellent driver I remember that mid 90's battle with Carlos Sainz, the year after Auriol was crowned. One word amazing and McCrae proved himself to the best at that time. Also as he rarely gets a mention a mention for Richard Burns WRC champ 2001.

The first time I tried left-foot braking I did almost go through the windscreen but I pretty much grasped it instantly after the third attempt. It is very satisfying to do whether your slowing down for bends in the road or road bumps.
1:02 this is what it looks like to follow Tommi Makinen in the safari.. The Safari Rally was one badass upredictible rally.. 5500kms either in extreme dry conditions or unforgiving Easter rain.. It was real magic in Kenya 🇰🇪
I started left foot braking before I even got my license, I was inspired by a video of Walter Rörll driving the Audi Quattro. As I own an automatic car (not by choice) I only brake with the left, doing it on manuals is even more fun combined with heal and toe.

I can't heel-and-toe (I think I need a better pedal for it) but playing Dirt Rally 2.0 with a wheel, shifter, pedals, USB handbrake, and VR headset and tackling the first hairpin a few hundred feet into Fourteka Kourva in Greece in a Lancia Delta S4 Group B has given me the opportunity to learn how to handbrake turn with ease just like Colin at 0:44.
I have to left foot brake in my race car, but I have a sequential airshift trans for up and down the box, only need clutch for take off, so left foot is always sitting over the brake ready to go. I don't know how and why, but it felt natural right from day one, not sure why, but thankful that it is. I do this in my sim too and try to do it from right foot and left foot when rallying with full manual trans with full clutch. I left foot brake when no gear change is needed and go back to right foot and heel and toe downshift slowing up for the slower corners, that sort of driving is quite hard I find, always assessing which corners are which foot. Just like the old days of rallying, it turns into a dance of the feet and you can get muddled up if not focussed, I guess we are not all Walter Rhols or Ari Vatanens......lol. My preference in motorsport is aero circuit racing, so my pedal box is not overly complicated in terms of feet movement, just very focussed brake modulation and throttle control.
