    So i finally gave in and made this one. I was a little doubtful because it looked so greasy to me. I exhanged a few oil such as argan instead of camellia and grapeseed instead of walnut. I also added ylang ylang instead of rosemary. I used for mu daughter and my hair. Despite my reservation it works wonderful and the boar bristle brush assists greatly with smoothing out the application. Thank you so much.

    Made this today! I love it. I have kinky curly (afro textured) hair and I still only need as little as you used in the video. A little definitely goes a long way.

    Loved this video! You're very talented and I enjoy watching your videos. I would love if you did a video about how you determine what essential oils to use in your recipes (ratios/blends and such). Also, I want to see a bath bomb video as well! Thank you for everything you do!

      +Soraya Steglich Thank you! I'm not sure how I would do a video on essential oil blends as it's not really a prescribed process... more of an ongoing experiment that is hard to describe if somebody can't smell what I'm smelling. I do have a bath bomb video in the works, though!

    I love this!!! I have very long hair and my ends get crazy dry. I have high porosity hair so I feel like it would be great! I worry about the beeswax though, will it wash out? I don’t use sulphates or harsh surfactants. This probably shouldn’t be applied every day right? I wash once a week. Thanks so much for any replies!

    Oooh! Love this one, Marie! Pregnancy made my hair long (due to prenatal vitamins) and dry (due to crazy, freaking out hormones). Been applying neat sunflower oil, but end up weighing mh hair down. Thanks for the how-much-to-use bits! Where did you get your boar bristle brush? How do you care for it?

    I’m going to try making the hair balm, but I would like to know if it could be altered into a edge control for updos or fly away hairs. How would you suggest altering the recipe to accommodate this use? Most edge controls are gel based, but I have used a pomade past in the past.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you'd likely find this to be far too greasy for hold purposes-all the pomades I've ever looked at are not a 100% oil based product, and usually contain quite a lot of water, PEG compounds, and ingredients like Ceteareth-25. The ingredient that could possibly provide hold would be the wax, which is not a great hold ingredient as using enough of it to create hold will also create an awful, hard-to-remove, waxy mess in the hair.

  • @Visiusdreamer

    Thank you so much for this video!
    I have she butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil and jojoba oil from the list - can I use almond or sesame oil instead of the walnut oil, and maybe vitamin E oil instead of the camellia and castor oil?? I love camellia oil, but its not possible to get a hold of, and castor oil is also not readilly available.
    Also - did you choose those specific essential oil based on the scent or for other reasons?? Or can i just substitute my favorite scents??

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use almond oil instead of all the oils you are trying to replace. Vitamin E oil is not a carrier oil and cannot be used instead of other carrier oils-that's sort of like using cinnamon instead of sugar! I'd recommend giving this a read: www.humblebeeandme.com/a-guide-to-carrier-oil-substitutions/
      The EOs I selected are supposed to be good for the hair, but you can use others if you prefer :)

    Im so sorry for commenting on multiple vidoes, I just dont want to ask something off topic on a different video or something and watching this again gave me an idea which lead to a question id like to ask. I apologize if there is a post already on this subject, i did try to find it before asking though:) but I would really like to add some cyclomethicone or maybe some dimethicone 100 and was wondering if i should replace part of the amount of oils with one or both of these, and how much would you suggest. Im not sure if you have used these or not to be able to give me any advice, but i thought id ask just in case you have. I've looked it up on google and have so far just come across posts on how silicones are bad, or how beneficial they are etc.lol not much help as far as adding to your products.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No worries, truly-that's what the comments section is for! I have actually tried exactly what you're asking about; I swapped out about 3g of liquid oil in this recipe for 3g dimethicone. That worked well, you just have to make sure you stir a bit more as it cools as the dimethicone doesn't incorporate as completely into the oils as other oils do :) Happy making and enjoy!

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Humblebee & Me Thank you! You are truly amazing! i cannot wait to try it out. Also, my friend has dreads and asked if i could make her some with a little dimethicone/cyclomethicone because she's had the best luck with products with silicones in them to help tame down the frizz she gets from washing less often and dry ends. she absolutely loves this hair balm and was curious about the addition of silicones. i so wish i could post pics on here to show how lovely this stuff works.

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Humblebee & Me Oh! i have one more question! I have 2 different dimethicones, Dim100 and Dim350, which do you think might work out bette? maybe the 350? since its a bit more viscous? I suppose we'll see and ill try a small amount in 2 diff batches. just thought id get your input first. thank you again. super excited for your book! i finally got the notification of when i will ve getting it! T'was a happy day that day.lol

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Humblebee & Me I truly do feel bad and like im littering up your comment section.lol But i just have to give you an update on the dimethicone swap. So I had to do this twice because i messed up and added cyclomethicone instead and did not work out very well.lol I didnt realize until i decided to read the bottles again. It didnt incorporate very well and that didnt bother me too much as you said it wouldnt. but when i tested it out on a small chunk of hair, it made my hair feel dry and crispy as if i loaded it with hairspray.lol When i made it with the correct silicone, it turned out ok, but tbh, it still doesnt feel quite as moisturizing as your original recipe. i am really wondering why it is that they made it feel drying at all? it must be something i did thst i didnt notice. because most of the hair serums and what nots ive tried had high amounts of both in their formulas and felt quite silky. one being just
      cyclomethicone
      dimethicone
      jojoba
      sweet alm. &
      gso
      Anyhooo, any advice? lol oh well, im happy and my hair loooves the stuff you make, so ill just leave it.lol thanks Marie:)!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry-most of those comments were totally lost to me because you replied to an old comment rather than making a new one, meaning they were buried with the original. Ugh. TH-cam comments suck, it's almost like they don't want creators to be able to reply! It's strange that the cyclometicone would make your hair feel crispy; that's a very volatile silicone that evaporates off quickly, so it can be drying in the same way alcohol can be, but not at 2%! Honestly, I'm very far from being any kind of an expert in silicones, though, so I really can't offer much advice here, sorry! I've only just started experimenting with them, and haven't used any of them extensively. Happy making!

      I'm not sure what the hair being wet has to do with something being a serum or not, but I would not recommend it-you wouldn't know if you'd over-applied until the hair dried, by which point it would be much too late to do anything other than re-wash your hair and start over.

    I firgured it out!! And boy do i feel like a ditx. or maybe just losing it.lol AnyWHOOO, so i forgot that i had done a protein treatment on the ends of my hair before i put the hair balm and i am 98% sure that is why my hair felt so brittle. It had to be it because i just read that you're supposed to apply a deep conditioner after doing a treatment or your hair will feel brittle a dry. It was my first time doing a protein treatment and it didnt say in the instructions to do so. anyways, my hair felt like that until i did a conditioning treatment and now my hair is back to normal thankfully. So i am thinking about giving the silicones another shot. But i think im guna try a leave in conditioner spray instead of adding to this hair balm, as I've said before, i like it perfectly the way it is.lol Anyways, just thought id share my update and possible cause of the brittle dry hair feel.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
