    Hi Marie,
    I just made your Winterlight Argan Serum today. Then tonight I discovered this "updated" recipe! :) I'll try this version next time. I have silica microspheres on the way. I do have one question. Do you find you like the mango butter better than the capuacu butter? Received your book last week and am just waiting on a few ingredients to get started - can't wait!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Kelly! I honestly love both butters-mango gives a drier feel, but not by a huge margin. I would just use whichever you happen to have, as they are both fantastic, fast-absorbing butters!

    I love this product! I used Rosehip in place of the Primrose because that’s what I had but that was my only change. It’s slightly gloppy haha but like you said just needs a good shake. I use it everyday and again I just love it. It definitely feels like a luxurious product on the skin. I will make this again after my first batch runs out-Thank you Marie! You are AWESOME! 🤗

      Yay! You should definitely try it with the primrose oil as well if you get a chance-that gamma linoleic acid content😍

      Yup! I'd go with the brown oxide and start very small :)

    Hello Marie, I am excited to wait for my silica replacement to arrive (the best I can find to replace silica micropheres is the RCMA no color powder -- only 4 ingredients listed and silica being on top!). One question, based on your experience or readings, would you suggest applying this before or after sunscreen (no makeup)? I live in the tropics so sunscreen is an everyday must, but I also want my skin to absorb all the goodness of the oils. However if I apply sunscreen after the serum I'm afraid it will cancel out the blurring effect. I will still definitely make this though, along with your calendula eye balm, as my premier humblebee projects.
    Love xx
    - One excited bee.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always do sunscreen last in the skin care process, so after something like this. I'd just make sure to give it a few minutes to let everything absorb :) Make sure you try Japanese sunscreens if you haven't already-they are SO much nicer than all other sunscreens I've tried and are downright lovely on the face.

    Can I use or add more oils in the formula keeping the amount 0.34 oz in total? Is their possibility of bringing out better functions on the product or would that rather result in unwanted reactions to the skin ? TIA.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd probably recommend using a warmer hued mica instead of the titanium dioxide for darker skin-I think a gold or bronze mica would be stunning!

  • @hazel2060

    Hey, just stumbled accross this video and I'm definitely gonna try! Just a couple questions: what is the shelf life of the product? Are there any natural preservatives? And how does this fare on terribly acne prone skin? :S my skin is a bit iffy with oils so idk if it works for me

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got an entire FAQ on shelf life: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/long-will-______-last-shelf-life/. You can learn more about preservatives here: www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/ (though what you define "natural" as will heavily impact your opinions on if there is anything natural available). I found this serum helped my acne thanks to the evening primrose oil, which you can learn more about here: www.humblebeeandme.com/magical-primrose-argan-serum/ :) If your acne generally reacts poorly to oils, though, you may want to give this a read and see if it sounds familiar: simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/. Happy making!

    When you applied it on your face i immediately realised you have amazing natural beauty with no make up whatsoever! Thanks for the vids! Would you use silica on say lip balms or would you say it would have the opposite effect?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! You can add silica to pretty much anything, really, but I wouldn't use silica in lip balm. It would be a fairly pricey addition for no real good reason. It is great in lip stick for making matte colours, though!

    Hello Mary, your videos are truly amazing, probably the best out there, thanks for all of your recipes, Im using some of them already :-) I really would like to try this serum, however my skin is quite dark and I believe the white colour from the titanium dioxide wouldn't be nice on my face. I am thinking I will adjust this recipe, just not adding the titanium dioxide, so like a nice serum with non colour...do you think it could works? Thanks in advance x

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! For darker skin tones I would recommend using your powdered highlighter-whatever you use for brightening up your complexion. My friend Simone, who is quite dark, uses my powdered bronzer as her highlight and it looks fantastic, and would look great here :)

    omg. i looooooooove the idea of silica microspheres!!! so i have been loving your primpom face serum everyday for the past few months (although I have to admit i switched it to evening primrose and pumpkin seed oil when I ran out of pomegranate seed oil as I had bought some pumpkin seed oil for the pumpkin chapsticks I made from your blog) ;) I really like to put on a lot of serum on however I decided to try bangs recently and they stick to the serum and get greasy faster if I'm not careful with the serum. I usually just put it on my forehead, wait a bit for it to sink in, wipe off the excess, and then be sure to use an invisible setting powder to prevent my bangs sticking to my forhead or getting greasy faster than they should. However, if I added silica microspheres maybe i'll have less issues with my bangs and I can go back to using as much serum as I prefer??? I can't wait to get your book btw. :)

      If you love the idea, just wait until you try them! Instant LOVE :D Adding too much can go from dry finish to plain ol' dry, so watch out for that, but have fun! :D

    Marie, I’m sure this has been addressed, but if I forgo the titanium dioxide would you suggest doubling the silica or just eliminate it all together?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd replace it with more oil, or perhaps sericite mica if you have it; I'd be worried about double silica being too drying :)

    Hey Marie, I'm from Germany and my ingredients are named a little bit differently. Can you tell, if Sericite and Sericite Mica are the same?
    And does it have the same mattifying properties as Silica does? :-) Would be glad to hear from you!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should be the same thing, but when it doubt, ask your supplier. And no, it won't be as mattifying as silica, but it's the best alternative I've found. It does have some mattifying abilities, it's just not as strong.

    Marie, this is cool. Possible to provide SPF Level obtained from the recipe?

    • @phoenixblackthorn6158
      @phoenixblackthorn6158 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to guess that the SPF level would not be enough (oils don't provide much) if its used alone. Its safer to use with a sunscreen if you’re looking for SPF.

    If you have naturally red skin can you use a mixture of turmeric and indigo instead of titanium dioxide to balance out the red?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In theory, yes, you can tint it green to balance out redder skin tones, but please don't use turmeric and indigo! I've written an article on that here: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-use-foodspices-colour-cosmetics-instead-iron-oxides/. Green chromium oxide would be a much better pigment choice.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The entire book can be done vegetarian (with the exception of lip stain, because it has to be carmine, but as a vegetarian I am ok with carmine), and there are vegan options for most recipes (one of the lipstick bases is vegan, etc.).

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! The oils on their own are basically this: www.humblebeeandme.com/magical-primrose-argan-serum/ :)

    • @gracelee441
      @gracelee441 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the prompt response. What's the use of Mango butter? What difference would it make if I add it or skip it? Also, I just watched your another video, the comparison between three butter/oil. So, I can use shea butter instead of mango butter with same result? Thank you!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mango butter helps give the serum some viscosity to help hold the powders in suspension, so if you're dropping them, you definitely don't need it. You could use shea as well, but mango has a lovely dry touch finish to it while shea is quite heavy and greasy :)

    Can arrow root powder be used instead of the silica for a dry finish feel?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really; arrowroot starch does help reduce greasiness, but it is to silica as carrot juice is to cane sugar-it's a fraction of the strength. In order to get the same effect you'd be using so much you'd get a pretty sludgey serum.

      Not neccessarily; the INCI for silica microspheres will be silicon dioxide, but not all silicon dioxide will be silica microspheres. Think of sugar-brown, white, caster, berry, etc. All technically sugar, but not all the same :)
