thanks for sharing i have to agree shopping at aldi or lidl is cheaper for groceries than lotus or big c, especially if you buy their basic products which the thai stores don't do much of. but you have the option of fresh markets in thailand which are becoming more and more of a rarity here, the whole world has had huge inflation lately and its always the people on lower incomes that feel it more wherever you are in the world, i live in carlisle in the far north of england and want to retire to thailand, but my life style and costs will be similar as i have no rent as i own my property here and would have to rent there, fuel is cheaper but vehicles are more expensive, general living is less depending on your lifestyle and location, so really to live a good life in either place you need to have money either way, cheers

If have nothing to pay out for house I think things can be just as cheap in England
I live in a village in the north of Thailand my partner has the property so I don't pay rent but rents are cheap but I find it very peaceful here no crime and the people are great

Hi, I was back in the UK 4 years ago and yes, somethings are cheaper in the UK but thats because they are made or produced in the UK or Europe. Thai goods purchased in the UK are more expensive than in Thailand, I was just recently on Koh Chang and the goods in the 7/11 were about 10/15 % more expensive than on the mainland. This is normal all across the world. If you want good value you have to eat and drink the local produce, Cheers

you are totally right found goods especially meats cheaper in supermarkets with better selection
eating is dearer in uk because energy and property prices are higher but thats also reflected in the cost of living
min wage in uk 11.45 an hour or 520 bht average wage 300 baht a day in thailand ,thats the difference

You don't go to live in Asia to eat imported English or European food.

@@thaitraveller9756 Well, if people only live and visit places full of Expats and Tourists, then I'm not surprised Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Pattaya etc. I only ever lived in Bangkok for 1 year back in 1992-93. I prefered to live and work in lessnToristy places. Chachoengao was excellent. As was a sub-district of Prachinburi. Even Kanchanaburi in the 1990s.

i wouldnt say that you ride the mrt in bangkok then go on london underground there is no comparison not only that the road Infor structure where i live blinds the uk
but for me its the peace up here and the friendliest people you could wish to meet
when i was back in england a few weeks ago i was still shocked neighbours dont talk and everyone rushing about its not for me
