  • Thinking about starting a farm from scratch? You don't need to own the land or have a barn or expensive machinery. You DO need solar powered electric sheep netting! Here's the process of preparing to set it up, setting it up and moving the sheep in... check back for what the area looks like after the sheep have done their brush clearing job for a few days!
Starting a farm from scratch is an ongoing series of me sharing what I'm learning from implementing start up farming strategies from Greg Judy, Joel Salatin and other regenerative agriculture mentors.

And by rotating them they do the fertilizing for you.

My technique is almost identical, though i have gotten really good at holding the nets over my shoulder, no tying necessary.

Why not use poly wire which is a lot easier and works perfect for me.

Thanks for your question! Two reasons 1. We have a LOT of coyotes and the netting protects against them. 2. We did not have a good perimeter fence. So a single or double poly wire just not secure enough. I used single wire with my pigs but sheep don’t get shocked like pigs do

@@healingpasturesfarm89 I fully agree with the issues of coyotes. You need a good perimeter fence. After training my st Croix for about a year on two poly wires, I switched over to one poly wire and never have one except lambs go outside that one poly wire for the last 2 years. The lambs come back in the paddock on their on. Sheep are very compliant to poly wire. One thing I contribute to their compliance is that I have a very hot fence at about 9500 volts. My cows and goats are not so compliant sometimes.

@@TexarkanaPrepper yes! Switching over to poly wire as soon as I settle enough to invest in perimeter fence. Agreed that HOT is crucial!!!
