Because the song was written by a guy that was the child of an absent father who committed himself to not being that for his own son. I think men like this won't experience remorse for it, because they never really wanted to be a parent in the first place. Like my own father. I'm 43. He's still kicking, I'm still in contact with my aunts (his sisters). I really don't think he's given me a second thought after the last time we laid eyes on eachother when I was 16. Him and my mom divorced when I was 10. My weekends with him amounted to him dropping me off at his parents house so he could go out on dates. My mom realized her efforts in maintaining a relationship with him and I were fruitless by the time I entered highschool and she no longer forced him and I to get together every other weekend. So we no longer saw eachother at all or even talked on the phone. The last time I was him was when my grandpa (his dad) died. In hindsight, it's kind of funny how emotional he was over his dads death (his dad who was not an absent father and certainly was not like his dad). My grandpa was more of a father to me than he ever was. Both of my grandpas were. My freaking neighbor taught me how to ride a bike. My moms dad took me fishing. My dad's dad played catch and wiffle ball with me. Ironically, my dad was an avid fisherman, but didn't like dealing with toting a kid around and having to deal with things like untangling my line or you know, teaching me. Every time he was going fishing I could come "next time". Next time never came. It's like in that moment of grieving for his father you would think a lightbulb would go off that he should recommit himself to his own child. But no. When he dies his child won't even be at his funeral, let alone grieve over his death.
@@tsdobbi yeah i think its a deep-rooted problem with people who can barely take care of themselves, and it honestly turns into their mind thinking your better without them which is why they don't even help themselves. my dad is a drug addict in a crack shack in oakhill, WV he has like 8 kids. he a deadbeat and always will be i guess.
Hi man!! Today you have given us a true gem with your version of "Cats in the Cradle'". Coincidentally, I started my day humming this same tune, which I think demonstrates the incredible connection you are making with your audience! Harry Chapin, known for his storytelling through music, left a legacy with this song, his greatest hit (number 1, Billboard hot 100, in December 1974). Later, in 1992, Ugly Kid Joe breathed new life into it. Now, you present us with an acoustic rendition that refreshes its charm, encapsulating beauty in simplicity. With just your acoustic guitar and your voice, you create an atmosphere that, despite its austerity, is laden with emotion, honesty, and impressive vocal quality. This minimalist and genuine style, with a fixed camera capturing just your presence, your guitar, and your voice, is what we love. We eagerly await more covers like this. Please continue maintaining that unique and simple style that makes you so special and deeply connects with us, your followers.

[Verse 1]
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, Dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"
[Chorus]
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
"When you comin' home, Dad?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then"
[Verse 2]
My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's okay"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
It said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"
[Chorus]
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
"When you comin' home, Dad?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then"
[Verse 3]
Well, he came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and he said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"
[Chorus]
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
"When you comin' home, son?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then, Dad
You know we'll have a good time then"
[Verse 4]
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me
[Chorus]
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
"When you comin' home, son?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then, Dad
We're gonna have a good time then"
