Re-bought a sbdx001 one year after I sold it. I thought it was too big, but it isn’t! Love this watch - one of the coolest in the industry! Thanks for a really good review!
Ah I'm glad that you rebought it bc it really is such a special watch that is unlike anything else out there! I love wearing mine it makes me feel special lol! Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
The same : got this SLA021 on my 6.5 wrist… and it is actually the more confortable dive watch of my collection ! I really love my SLA021. Tuff and beautiful, with this « je ne sais quoi » that makes it unique.
Owned the sla021 for over a year. Wore it with bracelet up until last month. It felt good on my 7.25" wrist and the quick adjust clasp was great on hot days with wrist swelling. I switched to the silicone rubber strap and it looks sporty. Accuracy has been consistent at + 6 sec per day. No complaints. This watch gets more wrist time than both my Omega Seamaster PO's combined. May have to sell one.
I've become a seiko convert recently. I was tunnel visioned for many years of thinking the brand is just generic as I only owned seiko5s, skx, and a few turtles. However i see the brand differently these days and see their high end comparable if not better than many omega, tudor, tag et al models of the same price point.
I've had my Marinemaster since 1999. Still going strong. Sent it in for service a number of times. I put it on the Timegrapher and it as running at only a couple seconds a day. Strong as nails, very wearable.
I have it on my wrist for a while, and yes, definitely, it is a Grand Seiko class in the form of an iconic designed diver watch. True to origin, loyalty of the past but with modern applications such as Zirconia Ceramic insert, sapphire inner single dome, Grand-Seiko-level Zaratsu polishing. Specially the un-decorated and un-adjusted GS movement 8L35 which deliverd an outstanding accuracy (for me is just over 1s per day), with the price just half of the tag from those GSs. No doubt at all, this is a GS in the form of a classic, iconic diver timepiece.
Hand assembled and hand polished in a Grand Seiko studio. Could never find this level of quality in say, Rolex or Omega. This watch worth every penny. 👍👍👍
This is an awesome watch, so underrated! The indices are not applied, it’s bumped up from the dial, which is a harder technique to achieve and to make sure that the indices won’t fall off from the dial. This watch is so amazing.
Yesssss it's definitely a very underrated and misunderstood watch! Ah ok that's pretty awesome that the indices are bumped up from the dial! Definitely adds to the overall tool watch ethos of the watch👍👍
nice review... I'm a proud owner of the mm300, and I love everything in it ... including how heavy it weights on my wrist ... my only concern about this fantastic watch is the lume on the ceramic bezel ... which is painted and unprotected. just hoping that it withstood the years of use and abuse.
Just ran across this review......late to the party. Great review. I started my Seiko journey with a skx. Bought monsters, turtles, Willards, samurai, sumo, and shogun. Have some real nice micro divers also. Then took the plunge into the sla line. The grail for me was the sla039. The hb was running 14 + sec a day so the dealer sent it back to Japan for service. Hopefully get it back in a couple of weeks more. Been 6 weeks already. Other than that a stunning, easy to wear watch. I missed it so much that when a real deal came up from the same dealer on a 059, I bought a second mm300. It is beyond stunning! Have to see in person. Got a great fit on the bracelet. Going to stay on it. Think it balances out the heavy head. This mm300 has become my favorite, most worn watch in my collection. I am totally hooked on the mm300 watches. Unique diver in the masses . Interesting how small they actually wear on the wrist. Smaller than my samurai, or turtles.
Thank you so much! Ah yeah the 001 was a great piece for sure I was actually looking at getting one instead of the SLA021! Yes the value proposition is there, and hopefully Seiko wont increase the price on it without any upgrades! I dont even know what kind of upgrades it would even need😂
Good review! My favourite watch of all time. I just reviewed it myself, after 1 year ownership. Still going strong and it is still in my current rotation.
Thats awesome to hear that youre enjoying it so much! it really is such an awesome watch and i wish it got more wrist time! That being said I still absolutely love it and whenever it does find its way onto my wrist its just so much fun!
Oh thats awesome, I've never seen the blue MM300 in the metal i bet theyre amazing tho considering how great they look on videos. I've been going back and forth on getting that crafter blue strap for mine for a long time because I cant choose between that and a strapcode bracelet despite them being so different looool
Owned mone for 4 months now. TBH when I first got it I didn't love it. However.... it has grown on me and I now wear it more often than any other diver I own. Furthermore, I frequently wear it on its OWM bracelet that is actually perfectly well designed, it just needs to be properly fitted and properly adjusted. It wears smaller than my 62MAS which is technically a smaller watch.
Just bought this watch and it is a great piece, I also received a 30% discount so I was thrilled as well. Great video on the watch, one of the best I have seen.
Congrats on the new watch!! It really is an awesome piece thats unlike anything else out there and getting 30% off will make the experience that much better lol! Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video, means a lot to me!
I know some people buy them and sell right away because the accuracy was not inspiring. I think that's their mistake and that could be to your benefit. Brand new upon first winding I was looking at about +11 seconds a day. It only took a few days to notice that it's accuracy improved every time I measured it. After about three months of daily wear in time on my wrist it has greatly improved. The last time I timed it against an atomic radio watch the SBDX023/SLA021 averaged +3.58 seconds a day over a period of 100 hours. I'm really happy with it now. It's still slowing but it's almost imperceptible now. My worry is, that if I ever send it in for service, I don't want it coming back running so fast again. But as long as it's not slow, I have one slow watch, I love it, but it's a pain in the arse. I if you like this Seiko but your not sure if it's worth it. Just buy it, it is very nice. If you don't like it, they sell pretty quickly online.
I bought mone for £1000 cheaper because the original owner thought that it wasn't accurate enough for him and bought a quartz... it's accurate to 9 seconds a day. Could be better but I suspect the guy who sold it to me didn't understand that mechanical watches are never as accurate as a quartz.
I have the green limited to 1986 and the Blue Dolphins limited to the 300 (exclusive to Asia). Which one would I sell whenever I need some funds. I love both of them, but I am also thinking about value retention.
How does this wear compared to a Panerai? I know you have/had one, hence my question. I had a 44mm Submersible, but sold it because I found it top-heavy. I think this is because of the heave ETA 7750 based movement. I have no problems with a 45mm Seiko Turtle...
I’m sorry i didn’t understand did you upgrade it to flat sapphire or it came with it?if you upgraded it can you please tell from where?Thank you. Also this watch isn’t 44.3 mm?
Love this watch! Marinemaster text on the dial makes the old one look imbalance and cluttered! This one clean symmetrical lines! Quality all around!! Love SLA021
Thanks man! Yeah its a special watch for sure and i must say the extra pop of the light gold color through the seconds hand and the 300m make a weirdly big difference which is awesome!
The mm300 bracelet is great it just needs adjustment properly. The 6oclock side needs to be 2 links shorter than the 12oclock side to sit properly. The clasp length needs to be taken notice of.
Totally second your statement on bargain GS > expensive Seiko. I'm more convinced with the SLA043J1 Island green after having blocked the GS SBGE257 with the AD. This tugs at the heart more than any GS could do, for now. Best watch pound for pound. I'll go for this and update the thread.
They're awesome. I own the original and have done twice, and the 600, and the Black one, and I'm saving for the LX. The lightplay is awesome, when you roll your wrist and the light hits those indicies, woweeeee.... They explode !!! Throw a black band on it and the B&W contrast is incredible.. Awesome watches.
Thanks you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! So I was initially looking at the 001 but the prices on them were rising and it was a bit too much for it. So then I was set on getting the SBDX017 bc it had upgraded lume but still had the original looks and Marinemaster name on the dial. (I was sooooo close to winning an eBay auction for one but in the last 20 minutes, my flight took off and I didn't have good wifi to place more bids lol) So then I figured that I'd go for the 021 bc the lume was further upgraded somehow and it was nice to know that I was getting a brand new watch with a warranty without paying much of a premium at all over the 017. Also strangely enough the touches of light gold really appealed to me bc of the contrast it added to the dial. The sapphire and ceramic bezels were plus points for sure but I never really had an issue with hardlex and steel bezels bc I baby my watches a bit too much😂
@@thewatchidiot Thanks for you (elaborate) reply! Indeed the Marinemaster on the dial of the 001 does look nice. I'm offered a SBDX001/017, but also in doubt about a Pelagos, tough choices! Both toolwatches, however the most action it will see in a day will be a desk and a keyboard. Anyways, keep up the good work and subscribed!
Sure thing! it would have been much harder for me to make a shorter response 😂 Oh man yeah the Pelagos is incredible as well quite different in terms of overall feel but worth a look for sure! And funny thing is that the next video I'm working on is actually on my Pelagos!! The timing worked out well that you subbed!! (Welcome to the channel😁) If you have ANY specific questions about either watch or about how they compare please let me know! I could make an hour long video comparing the two bc there are so many nuances so I'm down to talk about them anytime 👍👍
@@thewatchidiot Haha man, you got them both;). As far as I can tell from your videos, you got a pretty descent collection! Just bought my first "luxury" watch a few months ago, but it is already itching again :O. What a horrible hobby this is. Cant wait to see you Pelagos video, keep in touch!
Thanks man! It's a collection that's been forming for a while now and last year I sold off a good chunk of the collection to concentrate on the watches I truly love! Congrats man it's always exciting to get your first luxury watch for sure! And I totally get what you're saying about the itch. When I got my Pelagos, I told my AD "oh wow I don't think I'll really feel the need to buy anymore watches for many years to come!" And he just laughed and said "yeah I don't think so." And oh boy was he right.....😂😂
Replaced the bracelet with an aftermarket with shorter links. Strapcode Hexad also allowed me to replace their clasp with the MM300 clasp. Someone else's idea. Works for me really well ...as the bracelet link-length was my only dislike.
@@psil12345 Thank you for your response. So over time, the triangle will scratch and either he bezel insert will need replacing or a new application of lume. Bewildering decision by seiko.
Its an unexpected decision for sure but its still perfect after 2 years of use and the material itself is quite hard so I dont for see needing to replace anything unless you somehow land multiple direct impacts on the lume pip lol 👍
I owned a Seiko turtle, loved the look but not impressed with +15 sec per day. Sold it and gave Seiko one more try with the SLA021. It's my favorite watch, and I own a Casio MTG, Omega Seamaster 300m and two Omega Seamaster Planet Oceans. The SLA021at +6 sec/day is not as accurate as my other watches, but the look and feel on my 7.25" wrist is perfect. Others have complained about the bracelet, but I like it.
My black Turtle (SRP777) runs +1/day during normal daily wear. Positional variance kills it, though so you have to be careful how you position it overnight on the night stand. I'm tempted to buy a King Turtle but I'm scared of the misalignments and the poor accuracy.
This is one of those watches that I love and appreciate but I still can't get past the price and the competition. I'll admit that I've yet to see one in person tho
Lool I get what you mean, everyones good a watch like that for me it's the Oris Aquis. I can't get past not being able to swap straps😂 Yeah the MM300 is very much a watch that shines in person! Same thing goes for Grand Seikos. Hopefully you get to see one in the metal soon👍
Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thats awesome to hear I'm really excited for you to get it because it really is such a special watch when you feel it in the metal. If you get a chance, let me know what you think of it when it comes in!
I got an snr043, love it. Suggest you try a 43 or a 29. Bit more moola but perfectly fixes those little negatives! Still - sweet watch, I love it as well
Hi, i bought my first Seiko monster Antarktika to celebrate applying to my dream collage back im 2021. After a year my father took it because i started my weight loss jorney so i bought fitness tracker(: I am starting to Save up for sla 023 j1 i o have it im 2-3 years period, 10% is qlready saved(: Do you need to send it to Japan to service it and what are the costs?
This watch is most surely one that someway I'll own one to go with my other seiko divers watches this will be the top of all 3.000 plus really is in my capabilities the overall look of the Is Marine Master 300 would look great on my larger size reist. Very good review
A well done and balanced video, thank you for posting. For me at the end of the day it is a dive watch, a tool watch, I'm not that bothered about super brilliant zaratsu (sp?) polishing for this although I can certainly appreciate the time it takes to train the hand polisher and the great expertise in this finish. As I have the Tudor Pelagos this does not bring much extra to the table for me but it is a great piece though. If I didn't have the Pelagos I would take a look but would probably still pull the trigger on the Tudor on this occasion. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!! But yeah I get what you're saying for sure. I actually really see this watch like I see the BB58 925, Slightly bizarre but I'm glad they exist! I still see my Pelagos as the ultimate tool watch bc it checks off pretty much every box when it comes to what I think a tool diver should have. I've owned many black dial divers so I think the novelty of silver and beautiful polishing really stood out to me. That being said If I really had to choose between the MM300 and the Pelagos i think id go for the Pelagos every time😁 Theres no getting around how insanely incredible and easy to wear it is!
@@thewatchidiot My Pelagos is like a comfortable pair of everyday shoes, there are more stylish versions around but ultimately I find myself drawn back to my Pelegos even though it's large and somewhat industrial it feels like home and that includes my BB58 black among others. This is why I'm having a hard time justifying the BB58 925 right now. I do like that Seiko though all being said.
loool I never thought of the Pelagos as a comfortable pair of shoes but the analogy is spot on! I use it like that too, whenever I want to wear a watch that I know I wont have to think twice about in terms of adjustability and comfort the Pelagos is what I go for. The pelagos is a actually a big reason why I sold off a lot of my divers just because I know that the Pelagos is what gets most of my wrist time! As far as comfortable shoes go the light weight nature plays a huge part of it. The Pelagos comes in at 146 grams on my 7.5 inch wrist whereas on the RUBBER strap the MM300 comes in at 150 grams! Huge difference when it comes down to balance and wearability
Is it really assembled in GS factory? Mine came with so many dust inside. I even see some in your MM300 vs Pelagos video. Lol. But not really sure if that's a metric to really prove where it's assembled. AFAIK, it's only the movement that's assembled in GS. Anyone?
I bought the SBDX001 in 2002 for app. 135kYEN. Service so far in 2014 in JAPAN. It is a love / hate relation ship ever since i bought it. Its great looking watch, but after 2-3 days with all the extra weight on my hand it gets back into the case. The original bracelet and clasp is pain to use. I never managed to take off the watch without changing the clasp dive adjustment. With a thick rubber or leather strap the watch is manageable. Personally i'm a lot happier with a Omega Seamaster 300 MC from 2014 ( not the toothpaste Bond watch) as my daily wearer. For the current price of the SLA021 there a better options: Breitling SuperOcean 42, Tudor BlackBay 41 or Pelagos. Used Seamster Professional. I would not spent the current price of 5400 AUD on the MarineMaster SLA021.
Yeah I agree its a heavy watch for sure and sometimes it does get tiring and the bracelet is definitely not as great as it could have been!. Most of the time when I wear it its when I know I'll be out and about for a while or in warm weather at which point I can use the rubber strap to stay snug higher up my wrist at which point i dont notice the watch as much. Yeah I have the Pelagos right now and its definitely a great watch and one of my favorites! But I think they can coexist in a collection bc the two are just so different in terms of looks and feel. I absolutely love the polishing of the MM300, the way the looks at an angle, and the amazing distortions that come about at an angle as well. The MSRP is definitely high but the street price for it is about $2800 usd which is what I got it for which is about 3600 aud which is better value thankfully👍
Glad I saw this video, I just purchase a proxima which is a homage to this watch for $200 just to see if I would like wearing it and enjoying it before the the bigger price commitment
Nice Video, I am thinking of getting a MM300. I also got a Pelagos and I am loving the Pelagos. But what about the accuracy of the MM? A comparing video Pelagos vs MM would be nice. Thanks.Michael from germany
Thats awesome! the MM300 and the pelagos really can coexist in a collection bc of how different they are. The accuracy of my particular watch is good it runs about 2-4 seconds fast depending on what I'm doing. Technically speaking the range is quite wide for the movement but most MM300s I've heard of have good accuracy! Yeah its pretty awesome to hear how many people have compared the two watches bc its definitely a video that I've been wanting to do for a while! I'll definitely compare the two soon!
What’s the daily accuracy of the mm300?can the watch fit in small size wrist?any special maintenance needed for the watch?can the watch go 15 years without service if we can use once a week?
the daily accuracy on my watch is about 4-5 seconds fast a day which is pretty awesome! I think this MM300 might be a bit too big depending on how small the wrist is mainly due to how thick and heavy the watch is but its still relatively comfortable for the size. Since its a monobloc case it'll most likely have to go back to japan to get serviced when the time comes. Technically speaking i'm sure that the movement will keep working after 15 years without a service although its definitely not recommended bc staying that long without a service could lead to more serious problems in the future for any mechanical watch
Hey man good video and that is a great watch. I think it's great you got the older one that says marine master on it. Have you been able to compare it to the newer models?
Thank you so much!! Oh sorry this one is actually the newer one without the Marinemaster name on it but I did own the SBBN031 Tuna that had the Marinemaster name on it though! I chose this particular one in order to have it brand new and with a warranty and also the extra light gold color on the seconds hand and writing added a nice bit of contrast that I thought looked great! And the upgraded lume is always a plus😁
@@thewatchidiot damn I'm blind, the X is right there in the middle. I was able to try on the most recent release (green I think) at the AD recently when I bought my SPB143 and I was tempted to buy it. Grand Seiko case finishing and movement can't go wrong.
Loool all is well and nice I haven't seen the other colors but they really do look great in the photos! And yeah it's a full on bargain GS for sure👍 Oh man the SPB143 is definitely on my wishlist, it's so perfectly sized! How're you liking it so far?
@@thewatchidiot I'm a Seiko fan so I'm bias but I'm in love with this watch. I'm ready to sell everything else and keep this as my one watch collection.
Love it, beautiful. Really top quality. I would take this watch over Rolex and grand seiko it has that special thing that watch watch collectors and watch lover see in few rare watches. If a non collector or watch enthusiast saw this watch would never understand or accept a $3000 seiko but to watch lovers like us we see the value there and even think it should be higher. Love the fact that it’s got a grand seiko movement. On the wish list, saving up to buy one🙏.👌👌👍
I agree with every single word! It really is a special watch that is unlike anything else and as much as I would like for GS to make a smaller diver I dont think it could ever replace this MM300! I'm excited for you to finally get one!
Its a high price for a Seiko but a great price for a Grand Seiko😂! The accuracy is great its usually about 2-4 seconds fast per day depending on how much it stays on the table vs my wrist👍
I have seen so many videos of this watch and I love it more and more! I have a Sumo special edition, a Samurai Mantaray and some others too, but tomorrow I will drive 500 km to get my "first" MM 300. A black one, how it has to be and it´s used but in fantastic good shape and original. That´s what you get for the money for this watch, is the best you can get for money for a watch!
Nice man that's so exciting!! The drive there will be a nice part of the watch's story and I hope the anticipation will make the excitement better. Let me know what you think of it when you get it, idk whether or not you've worn one before, bc the experience really is unlike any watch I've ever owned. Congratulations and have a safe trip!
@@thewatchidiot Wow, I didn't expect such a quick response, if at all! Should that be something tomorrow afternoon, I'll leave a message immediately! I REALLY LOVE THIS GREATFULL WATCH!!! --- And I could imagine that you will get one again!😇 No whatchman can live without her! It's a dream watch for this price.😜 Greetings from Germany and a happy new year 2023!!!
Howdy! It's done, I got my MM300 and I'm absolut proud of it! It's a beauty, It's elegant, It's heavy, It's a fantastic work from Siko and it's perfect, so beleave me, this thing will never leave me!!!
So happy to hear that you're already in love with it! The charms of the watch will continue to reveal themselves to you as time passes and you see it in more lighting conditions so you've got a fun 2023 ahead of you! I actually still have my MM300 after saying no to few offers but I was thinking of actually selling it recently but now seeing how excited you are I want to give mine another chance!
OK - What about crown thread being made thet way that When it breakes eventually you have to reolace whole case for 700usd? What about eutomatic winding lever - breaking? What about lube at 12 on bezel not being protected? No one talks about servicing costs.. and so on..
How much does yours sound like you're winding up a kid's toy when you're winding it? Mine does quite a bit. It's not a bad thing necessarily, but I was surprised a watch at this price point and quality level does that. My other watches at similar quality levels are smooth and almost silent when I wind them.
oh man I am so pumped for you! Its going to be awesome and if you get a chance let me know what you think of it when you finally get it! (and what you think of the lume if you havent already seen it in person😁)
How you guys wear this watch and didnt have any scratches, for me is enought 10 days to got some micro ones everywhere haha, I think most buyers didnt use this watch at all and buying to sell later
Yeah the lume is just and somehow the Tuna is even more insane! But yeah when it comes down to wrist time my SKX007 and 013 gets way more than my MM300 lately. I almost have to be mentally prepared to wear it 😂
Not all shops that carry seiko carry the MM300 but more dedicated watch shops with a good seiko collection should have them if you want to try it on in person which Id recommend. But if not, I bought mine from Gnomon Watches bc theyre trustworthy and their prices are good so check them out if you want!
Yeah the MM300 is a special one for sure! Yeah it's the SBGT241, the 9F movement's 25th anniversary LE! It's 5 links across instead of the usual 7 but it's such a comfortable bracelet.
007 on a strap code super oyster got me to sell my 001. A total mistake till I finally got the 021. Allowed me to let the og blumo and 007 go. Kept the OM and spork and 021.
I have mixed feeling about MM300. I owned few versions of MM300. All of them have issue with accuracy. But the the flip-trigger has always being the weight.
@@thewatchidiot I’m seriously thinking about buying one I’ve had the Sumo and skx in the past. So I’m not worried about size more the accuracy of the movement and the finish of the clasp. As I bought this clasp for my Sumo and didn’t think the quality was that good. Maybe have improved and is on a more expensive watch? I’m thinking next week I am going to the Seiko store in London to try on in person, I think this is best idea. Thanks for review / thoughts I just subscribed.
I love pretty much everything about the SNR029 especially the spring drive movement, being made of titanium, and the much improved bracelet. However it wears a bit larger than my MM300 which isnt the end of the world but the biggest reason I cant get it is bc its about $5500/6000 new😂 It's an incredible watch I'm not quite sure its worth about double the price of the standard MM300. If it was about 4000 it would be on my wishlist!
Thanks man! Oh man that question could easily be its own video loool but they're similar but quite different in many ways. I owned the tuna for a couple years before selling it but despite the size of "48mm" it wore waaaayyyy smaller and actually it was much more comfortable than the MM300 over a longer period of time. That being said the different aesthetics led to me wearing them at different times. The tuna is so different looking and bold that I couldn't really wear it all too often. Whereas the MM300 is more normal looking which allowed me to wear it in more situations. Also the lume on the MM300 is incredible but the lume on the Tuna is somehow even more incredible. It was easily the brightest lume I've ever seen which was awesome! I also absolutely loved that the Tuna was quartz with a kanji day wheel. It was fun to look at and it was always good to go whenever I wanted to wear it regardless of how long it had been since the last time it was worn. I still wish I had the tuna bc it's just so unique but I wasn't wearing it to justify keeping it. Definitely a watch I'd want to rebuy at some point tho 👍
there is a difference between these and the LX / GS line but its not worth paying the extra. The dial, hands, indices and movement are the main difference i see handling them.
I have the new sla047 island green and have been thinking a lot before i got it… once i had it i have to say it is realy a beautifull watch and dispite the numbers it wears perfectly even on my small wrist. I fall in love every time i wear it. I have 13 watches but the mm300 is the most loved one in my collection…
That's awesome I hope I get to see one of those in person some day bc they really do look great! And yes you're absolutely right the fit and feel of it on wrist is not much like the measurements would suggest which is great. Yeah the MM300 is a very special watch and it's a keeper for me as well!!
Wonderful vid. I will never accept a crown at 4 (an abomination- lol) and the dial might be a tad too big but overall, and for a type of model that is not my cup of tea (I only use divers as timers when cooking, so the Chinese homages are perfect for me LMAO), overall, it is pretty convincing; It's the overall that makes it; Keep up the great wrok!
Thanks! Looooool yes the 4 o clock crown is definitely an acquired taste! For me it pretty much only works on divers. I've seen the 4 oclock crown on other non divers and it just doesnt work. Speaking of chinese homages The San Martin 62MAS has been screaming out to me the last couple weeks! It looks so amazing and the price on it is just ridiculous so I might have to go for one at some point!
Looool yeah in some of those shots it's more down to the lens I was using😂 but I'm glad that it fits well on my wrist bc it's such a special watch! Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
No problem at all! Detailed dimensions are important so I'll be sure to include them in the video for longer as well👍 Yes lots more video to come hope you enjoy!!
Compared to their latest Prospexes, this is real value. At least it's got a competitive movement. 6R and 4R just don't cut it in +1000$ watches anymore.... You can buy Longines for the price of the new Willard.
@@adamski101 My watches are in constant rotation, so accuracy that stays within +/-15 seconds per day doesn't bother me. I love all my dozen plus Seiko's. I'ts just that entry level Swiss movements (Tissot, Hamilton) are sooo much better in the accuracy department any 4R or 6R could ever dream to be, even with professional regulation. For instance: i'd love a Willard with, say, a Powermatic80 movement. If Tissot can make the PRX auto, that out of the box runs like a Swiss train for less than the current boutique price of a likely misaligned Willard, I feel a little ripped off by my beloved Seiko brand. That's why i bought a PRX and a Willard clone from Aliexpress instead of a Seiko Willard with cash to spare. The clone, that hjas a copied design, I know, is truly a great watch. With a 4R that is totally fine for the price.
theres no going wrong with the awesomeness of a MM300! Feel free to email me (thewatchidiot@gmail.com) if you want mine. The condition of the watch in the video is the condition right now 😄
Anyone who owns 2 MM300s is always welcome to the party! But yeah it's an incredible watch for sure and its unlike anything else out there! Which two MM300s do you have?
Ooooooo man that SLA035 must be awesome that's a watch I'd love to see in person one day! The MM300 is definitely a watch that would look incredible in all black. Youve got an awesome duo!
Looool that's exactly the way it goes and I love it! Although it stopped at the MM300 for me bc there aren't any Grand Seiko divers that I would actually wear bc they're all too big for my taste. If only they made a 40-41mm diver😁😁
Have the same sla021. On 6.5 it wears insanely good. It's such a beautiful monster. And it's size brings something special to the wear experience.
Beautiful monster is an awesome way to put it!! Yeah I wouldnt want to change the size of it in any way its such a unique experience😁
The same : got this SLA021 on my 6.5 wrist… and it is actually the more confortable dive watch of my collection !
I really love my SLA021. Tuff and beautiful, with this « je ne sais quoi » that makes it unique.
Yeah so comfortable especially on the rubber strap! I love seeing it from every angle every time I wear it. It'll never get old!
To me it’s a baby tank. If you think it’s huge try wearing the Marathon JSAR! 😅
The Lume on this thing is literally insane ! Great video and incredible watch
Thanks man! two years on it still blows me away every time I charge it up!
A good honest review. Refreshing to find these days. A thumbs up from me.
I wear my SBDX017 on a black Isofrane. Insanely comfortable and the thickness of the strap compliments the tall case proportions.
Another excellent review. Made me miss my dearly departed 001. Great point re: its ever-increasing value proposition.
Wonderful review, gorgeous watch. Many thanks! 🙏😊😊❤❤❤❤
Just picked one up. Good stuff.
Nice and pleasant review, good job!
Great video. I have the blue one with a black rubber crafter blue band. It's a gorgeous combination. Love wearing it
Oh thats awesome, I've never seen the blue MM300 in the metal i bet theyre amazing tho considering how great they look on videos. I've been going back and forth on getting that crafter blue strap for mine for a long time because I cant choose between that and a strapcode bracelet despite them being so different looool
Awesome review, can i ask what's the size of your wrist for reference?
hi nice video, !!! I'm undecided whether to buy this or the TUDOR black bay pro. What do you recommend??
This is such a good review. I can tell you live this watch fondly and I get that. Now I really want to work and go get one.
I also agree that it's important to use the watch or store it in a winder, it seems to improve the accuracy
I'm getting about+ 15 or 20 seconds a month out of it now. Seems like the honeymoon is never going to end.
May I know the model of the rubber strap?
I love my SLA059. Wear it daily.
That description of the brightness of the lume is ROFL wow
Awesome watches.
just ordered one, thanks for the review
Another great quality video! What made you choose this one over the 001 besides specifics as the Sapphire, ceramic bezel etc?
Thanks you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! So I was initially looking at the 001 but the prices on them were rising and it was a bit too much for it. So then I was set on getting the SBDX017 bc it had upgraded lume but still had the original looks and Marinemaster name on the dial. (I was sooooo close to winning an eBay auction for one but in the last 20 minutes, my flight took off and I didn't have good wifi to place more bids lol)
So then I figured that I'd go for the 021 bc the lume was further upgraded somehow and it was nice to know that I was getting a brand new watch with a warranty without paying much of a premium at all over the 017.
Sure thing! it would have been much harder for me to make a shorter response 😂
Oh man yeah the Pelagos is incredible as well quite different in terms of overall feel but worth a look for sure! And funny thing is that the next video I'm working on is actually on my Pelagos!! The timing worked out well that you subbed!! (Welcome to the channel😁)
If you have ANY specific questions about either watch or about how they compare please let me know!
Hi. Does the triangle pip have a coating on it to prevent the lume from being scratched? or is the lume material exposed?
It is exposed... No coating on it..
I like the SLA021, but I couldn't stand how the indices are always yellow-green color. I like a stark white.
This is one of those watches that I love and appreciate but I still can't get past the price and the competition. I'll admit that I've yet to see one in person tho
Lool I get what you mean, everyones good a watch like that for me it's the Oris Aquis. I can't get past not being able to swap straps😂
Yeah the MM300 is very much a watch that shines in person! Same thing goes for Grand Seikos. Hopefully you get to see one in the metal soon👍
Great review. Just ordered one myself. Cannot wait!
After a year my father took it because i started my weight loss jorney so i bought fitness tracker(:
I am starting to Save up for sla 023 j1 i o have it im 2-3 years period, 10% is qlready saved(:
Do you need to send it to Japan to service it and what are the costs?
My buddy recently picked up this watch and he likes it very much. I agree with you on Grand Seiko. I have the GMT. 👍😀
Excellent, excellent review!
Thank you so much I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it!!
I'll definitely compare the two soon!
i have the SLA019 and love it but hate it for the poking you mentioned :D will put it back on the rubber now
What’s the daily accuracy of the mm300?can the watch fit in small size wrist?any special maintenance needed for the watch?can the watch go 15 years without service if we can use once a week?
the daily accuracy on my watch is about 4-5 seconds fast a day which is pretty awesome!
And yeah it's a full on bargain GS for sure👍
Oh man the SPB143 is definitely on my wishlist, it's so perfectly sized! How're you liking it so far?
@@thewatchidiot I'm a Seiko fan so I'm bias but I'm in love with this watch. I'm ready to sell everything else and keep this as my one watch collection.
Loool same here I'm a Seiko fan boy but that's awesome to hear that it's good enough to make your want to sell everything and just keep the spb143!
Superb review. Many thanks!
nice watch... not sure i would like to pay that for a seiko , would like to know whats the accuracy ? cheers
Its a high price for a Seiko but a great price for a Grand Seiko😂! The accuracy is great its usually about 2-4 seconds fast per day depending on how much it stays on the table vs my wrist👍
@@thewatchidiot very nice thanks
A very nice, honest and detailed review.
Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Honesty is definitely important because no watch, as incredible as they may be, is perfect!
Would love to get my hands on that MM spring drive.
Phenomenal video man!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad that you enjoyed it man!!
Same movement but don't forget that the Grand Seiko movement tax also includes a very precise calibration that is not on the mm300.

No whatchman can live without her!
It's a dream watch for this price.😜
Greetings from Germany and a happy new year 2023!!!
Howdy!
It's done, I got my MM300 and I'm absolut proud of it!
It's a beauty, It's elegant, It's heavy, It's a fantastic work from Siko and it's perfect, so beleave me, this thing will never leave me!!!
By the way, it's every cent and every km worth!😍😍😍
So happy to hear that you're already in love with it! The charms of the watch will continue to reveal themselves to you as time passes and you see it in more lighting conditions so you've got a fun 2023 ahead of you!
I actually still have my MM300 after saying no to few offers but I was thinking of actually selling it recently but now seeing how excited you are I want to give mine another chance!
OK - What about crown thread being made thet way that When it breakes eventually you have to reolace whole case for 700usd?
What about eutomatic winding lever - breaking?
What about lube at 12 on bezel not being protected?
No one talks about servicing costs.. and so on..
I bought this because I still believe seiko divers are nicer than GS divers
Agreed 💯👍🏻
How much does yours sound like you're winding up a kid's toy when you're winding it? Mine does quite a bit. It's not a bad thing necessarily, but I was surprised a watch at this price point and quality level does that. My other watches at similar quality levels are smooth and almost silent when I wind them.
Best-looking watch out there in my opinion. There is nothing else quite like it. And the lume is otherworldly good.
have it in blue dial … gorgeous piece
I’m picking one up used from someone I know and I can’t wait!
oh man I am so pumped for you! Its going to be awesome and if you get a chance let me know what you think of it when you finally get it! (and what you think of the lume if you havent already seen it in person😁)
@@thewatchidiot Will do!
How you guys wear this watch and didnt have any scratches, for me is enought 10 days to got some micro ones everywhere haha, I think most buyers didnt use this watch at all and buying to sell later
Awesome seiko and such beautiful lume, the marine master is a little rich for my blood though, but I can settle for my SKX007.
Yeah the lume is just and somehow the Tuna is even more insane! But yeah when it comes down to wrist time my SKX007 and 013 gets way more than my MM300 lately. I almost have to be mentally prepared to wear it 😂
Where should this Marinemaster be purchased? Online or fixed shop?
Not all shops that carry seiko carry the MM300 but more dedicated watch shops with a good seiko collection should have them if you want to try it on in person which Id recommend. But if not, I bought mine from Gnomon Watches bc theyre trustworthy and their prices are good so check them out if you want!
Such a great watch! I was curious also with your Grand Seiko pieces, especially the one on the beads of rice bracelet. Which reference is that?
Yeah the MM300 is a special one for sure! Yeah it's the SBGT241, the 9F movement's 25th anniversary LE! It's 5 links across instead of the usual 7 but it's such a comfortable bracelet.
@@thewatchidiot Yes that bracelet looks awesome! Thanks for your response :)
Sure thing, no problem at all!😁
007 on a strap code super oyster got me to sell my 001. A total mistake till I finally got the 021. Allowed me to let the og blumo and 007 go. Kept the OM and spork and 021.
This watch is a bargain! 😊Gorgeous!🥰
I have mixed feeling about MM300.
I owned few versions of MM300.
All of them have issue with accuracy.
But the the flip-trigger has always being the weight.
Soooooo....is it really a bargain GS or still just an expensive Seiko??
Is a bargain. GS movement, Sallaz polishing? Is literally better finished than a submariner... for less than 3k
@Vortex Straps one thing after another all correct, I totally agree!!
@Stirling Nguyen yeah definitely bargain Grand Seiko and the blue dial version does look pretty cool! Would love to see one in person at some point
That's great to hear maybe it'll be an option for me in the future! And thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I like the way you put it with the higher more expensive seikos . Think of it as a less expensive grand Seiko. I to also have two grand Seiko
will you get the SNR029?
I love pretty much everything about the SNR029 especially the spring drive movement, being made of titanium, and the much improved bracelet. However it wears a bit larger than my MM300 which isnt the end of the world but the biggest reason I cant get it is bc its about $5500/6000 new😂 It's an incredible watch I'm not quite sure its worth about double the price of the standard MM300. If it was about 4000 it would be on my wishlist!
Great video on this outstanding Seiko watch. To me this is the ultimate grail watch .
How does it compare to tuna 300 ? Btw nice video.
14:33 "just go for it"
So i bought the SNR029 😅
there is a difference between these and the LX / GS line but its not worth paying the extra. The dial, hands, indices and movement are the main difference i see handling them.
Beautiful piece for sure!
Thanks much appreciated!
Such a beautiful watch the 047... The green 😍
I know what you mean about heavy watches. I've been wearing an old Casio for almost 20 years, but I can't wait to take it off.
If anything, it actually looks small on you! Great review, thnx
Looool yeah in some of those shots it's more down to the lens I was using😂 but I'm glad that it fits well on my wrist bc it's such a special watch! Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
You only look at the date window once a day hopefully.
Nice review.. But pls let the dimensions linger a little longer on the screen.. So that we need not pause the vid to read 😀.. Cheers
Thanks! I always put the full dimensions in description as well!👍
@@thewatchidiot oh ok.. Thanks for the info.. Will keep in mind for future videos🙏
No problem at all! Detailed dimensions are important so I'll be sure to include them in the video for longer as well👍 Yes lots more video to come hope you enjoy!!
@@thewatchidiot Looking forward..
Compared to their latest Prospexes, this is real value. At least it's got a competitive movement. 6R and 4R just don't cut it in +1000$ watches anymore.... You can buy Longines for the price of the new Willard.
6R35 is. Good movement with a high beat, it’s the 6R15 that is meh.
@@ChromeMan04 the 6R35 is 21.600 bph, just like every 4R, 7S and basically every entry to mid-level Seiko since the sixties.
@@Bob.martens ah ur right but it does have a high power reserve at 70 hours.
Hmm. My MM300 runs at +14s. My Sumo is +6s, my MM200 is +8s and my lowly King Samurai is +3s so my MM300 is actually the least accurate Seiko I own.
Best hands ever. I put nice (and pricey:) MM-style hands on my Turtle and two microbrand watches, and all look amazing.
Hour Markers are actually pushed from the back of the dial and not applied.
Ah ok either way they still look awesome!
As a SPB383 owner.. I might sell my watch and go for this timeless beauty instead
theres no going wrong with the awesomeness of a MM300! Feel free to email me (thewatchidiot@gmail.com) if you want mine. The condition of the watch in the video is the condition right now 😄
Late to the party but great review and wholeheartedly agree. So much so that I actually own 2 MM300 🤷♂️
Anyone who owns 2 MM300s is always welcome to the party! But yeah it's an incredible watch for sure and its unlike anything else out there! Which two MM300s do you have?
@@thewatchidiot I have the SBDX017 (original text block) and the SLA035J1 Black series. Both great but offer a completely different choice.
Ooooooo man that SLA035 must be awesome that's a watch I'd love to see in person one day! The MM300 is definitely a watch that would look incredible in all black. Youve got an awesome duo!
Hi, do you still own this? Thank you
Yeah I still have it!
Hey what's your wrist size?
my wrist is 7.5 inches!
If u have an skx definitely u want a better one and then a better one again. The hunger for a better one keeps on going.
Looool that's exactly the way it goes and I love it! Although it stopped at the MM300 for me bc there aren't any Grand Seiko divers that I would actually wear bc they're all too big for my taste. If only they made a 40-41mm diver😁😁
Best diver, enters my top 5 watches to own! Better than GS diver only sub as a competition!
