Abstract
The purpose of this webinar is to create a dialogue around innovation in ecological restoration. For example, what are the barriers to using innovation in ecological restoration? What research can inform how to overcome those barriers? Does the type of the innovation affect how likely it is to be successfully implemented in practice? Jakki’s webinar is based on her decade-long work in studying innovation in ecological restoration.
Speaker’s bio
Dr. Jakki Mohr is the Regents Professor of Marketing, and Fellow, Institute on Ecos ystems, at the University of Montana. An innovator in the field of marketing high-technology products and services, Mohr has achieved international acclaim for her book Marketing of High-Technology Products and Innovations (with Sanjit Sengupta and Stanley Slater), used by colleges and universities worldwide (translated into three languages) as well as by managers for executive training sessions.
Her recent research is situated at the intersection of the natural world and business. For example, she studies the business of restoration, how companies use biomimicry (innovations inspired by nature, based on underlying biological mechanisms) to solve technical and engineering challenges, business impacts on nature, and the role of ecosystems in successfully commercialization innovations. She also manages the innovation & commercialization aspects of a large NSF grant to ensure that cutting-edge science finds its way into practice.
An award-winning scholar, Mohr's research has been published in a range of scientific and business journals, including PLOSOne, Nature Reviews Genetics, Journal of Cleaner Production, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B, Restoration Ecology, the Journal of Marketing, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of Product and Innovation Management, the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, among others.
