    In this video, Jono teaches you how to do a backward entry into spins. This is a particularly useful technique to learn especially for practising back spins and various jump exercises.

    That arm explenation is great. I'm often unsure as to which is forward. Great if this applies to all spin and jump entries! Easier to rememner that way.

      @@IceCoachOnline I held on to my guard through a part of my training session to remind myself to keep it there 😂.

    It's hard to find a guy that looks as graceful yet masculine skating as this guy. Brilliant and a treat to watch.

      @@IceCoachOnline Just made me think we should all be wearing light vests about our skating clothing saying "Bend that knee", maybe then there'd no longer be the need to say it a thousand times each lesson X'D Must be the most said figure skating coach thing next to "don't look down, I know it's hard not to!"

    I have been struggling with getting my centre of balance at the ball of my foot and holding that outside edge in the spin. I can do it sometimes but rarely before I get to the back scratch position. Is it related to the fact that my blade actually needs to be sharpened ?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't sound so much like a blade sharpening issue from what you've described. But as always, this advice is always tough to give without seeing you perform the move to know what exactly is happening.
      It sounds like it might be where you're distributing your weight before you reach the back scratch position. I've had a few students before with the same issue and the usual correction is that they've had too much weight over the left side (from not lifting their left hip and/or not keeping their left leg crossed over the right leg even in the first spin position), so really try to concentrate on this from the very beginning. It might feel alien and weird, but it could really help with the entire spin in the future

    Shouldn't this be titled forward entry into spins?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Technically you're skating in forwards but since you're going in on the opposite foot to start a backspin, back camel, back sit etc.... It's referred to as the backward entry into spins.

      @@IceCoachOnline She's right - this says backward entry into a spin; this is a forward entry into a back spin.

    which icerink do you use for filming? I've seen a couple different rinks you and other coach used in your channel. look absolutely clean, big and modern compare to where I go( Australia). If you can leave the rink info here, I would love to visit one day when I travel to the UK and ask a private coaching session with you two !

      We have used a few different ice rinks for filming! Most commonly we have use alexandra palace in London, England. Also we have quite a few videos filmed in Cardiff ice rink in Wales. If anyone is heading to either London or Cardiff, we would be more than happy to give them a private lesson if we are not on tour at that time :)
