    Time stamp built-in this video! I'm going live later today for Q&A. I forgot to mention how many sounds come with it (3000+) and effects too.

      Can it be used as a effects processor ? Like running my synth through the ins of the Roland out to the MPC like how the 404 is used.

      Exactly! The 8000 was the tightest MIDI sequencing I’ve ever gotten, and the overall sound quality I got from my productions on it are still some of my best. This is promising, but a bit of a let down.

    Certainly the most entertaining review yet! I like it. Takes me back 20 years when I had Electribes EM-1 and ES-1. The 2 of them ran like $750 together, there was no XLR w/phantom and we're talking about $750, 20 years ago = $1,125 (inflation factor 1.5) Just a little perspective to anyone who don't think this is a bargain. If you look at it like this, now you've got $375 to spend on a microphone and or headphone!

    Two points.
    'Funny' videos usually aren't.
    The 'music' for reviews of this kind of gear is usually awful.
    You went against the grain on both counts. VERY entertaining and music that was (even to this old fart's ears) very listenable. A great and interesting review. You put this piece of kit onto my 'checkitout'list. :-)

    This seems more or less aimed at beginners to music and people that don't really have any other gear to make music with. Also...I figured at some point Roland would take Pioneers SP-16 pad and integrated sequencer button design but could they at least have taken the screen too? Those tiny uninformative screens should have been left back in 1991.

    • @inthefade
      @inthefade 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That screen is unforgivable. I have the System-1m, and the thing only has a 2-segment LED for all your patches and everything. I got it used, and that one thing makes me just want to resell it, despite it sounding pretty damn good. It is so hard to remember where your patches are without having a damn note book taped to the synth. It is 80s tech in 201x!

    • @joebrewer4529

      The pioneer sp16 is underrated same for the DJs 1000. What makes it a great sampler? Straightforward. That's what I thought this was when I clicked on the video. I thought maybe it was a new one. I've been waiting anxiously for them to update with a new pioneer sampler. The MPC is nice but it's convoluted

    • @xformant
      @xformant 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@inthefade Agreed. Unforgivable and pure laziness. Roland must have a stockpile of screens left over from the MC-505 from 1998. "Let's just use this screen on EVERY new product we sell. It sold in 1998 right, well it should sell now too!" 🤦‍♂️

    • @LynxSocial
      @LynxSocial 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I truly LOVE my Pioneer SP-16. Works for me. I've had MANY MPC's and other samplers.. But the Toraiz is MY all time favorite. Sure, its sequencers pattern length is the most limiting feature it has but it has a workaround. I love Toraiz.

    that price is in the sweet-spot 😁. great size too. i love the step sequencer. i think an under-rated feature might be that built-in mic. that's soooo clutch when we need to sample real quick. a lot can be done with that! i wish the screen was bigger though so there wouldn't be as much menu diving.

The Roland-Sp 404 SX hands down is still my favorite piece of equipment I own. Ultimately, with Roland expanding on the 404 I might like it better than the MPCone Which I also own .

    • @Morne555
      @Morne555 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@urbanhookupz roland had a whole line of sp samplers, if i remember corectly they had the sp202 and the sp808 which eventually got replaced with the sp404, sp505 and sp606. They stopped the sp505 and sp606 but kept the sp404, adding SD card slot with later versions. The sp404 was an upgrade of the sp202, a budget sampler. Really it would prob be an sp707 or sp909 to see it compete feature wise with the mpc's.

    Thanks for the video Ave. Right off the bat! I love Roland instruments sounds, truely epic, from the legendary 808 to 909 to 303 but one HUGE or should I say small issue is the ity bity screen size! What's up with that! I have many Roland instruments including the TR-8S which to be fair the samll screen size on the TR-8S is ok because it's not a DAW or trying to be a DAW. When I first heard of the MC-707 Groovebox which is a mobile device with a functioning DAW, I was so excited until I saw the screen size! I counted and the Verselab MV-1 can only accomodate 32 characters on the screen at once .It's so small and the device is soooo powerful with that tiny screen size you will be menu diving all day which totally kills any creative juice you may have and take forever to get anything done. I mean, compare the tiny size of the Verselab MV-1 to the MPC ONE's screen! Full colour touch screen on a brilliant 7 inch display for the same price and not to mention the fact that you can connect the MPC ONE or LIVE to your computer and use its included MPC Software 2 for additional possibilities.
    That's why I passed on the MC-707 which is $300 more and purchased the MPC ONE instead. Less menu diving with the way larger screen, included DAW that tried and true and easier workflow.
    I would not purchase the Verselab MV-1 for that price, it would have to be alot less. Now if it had a larger screen such as the MPC ONE, I may have considered it.

    Got a lot out of your review - trying to decide between the VL or getting into the software DAWs. And thanks for making it funny - most reviews are so dry I need an IV afterward!

      I just want to make a song.... this looks like something that i might be able to figure out... we will see

    As a MC-707 user, I'm finding I'm relying on samples and loops more than synths created on the box and I was thinking of maybe getting a MPC One. This seems to fit me a little better for my work flow. Thanks for the first review not from roland.

      Mpc one all the way mate, 7 inch touch screen , multi sampling over midi , massive storage in SD cards etc , I sold a lot of my gear to buy mine , best decision ever

    I can’t see how processing/trimming/fading/x fading samples is going to be remotely coherent with that old school ass screen. They’d be wise to make a hyper modernized SP-404 design (WITH A REAL SCREEN) instead.

      They tried to go the MPC 3000 route but ummmmmmm..... yea

    • @AustinKorte
      @AustinKorte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rarely use my 404SX anymore because it feels so outdated and I play guitar a lot in my music so I can't really record whole guitar parts into it with the track playing which is why I've been using Ableton instead. I can't tell if this is really made for sampling/recording outside sources besides vocals or not.

      @melodywave3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AustinKorte Think of how dope of a companion this machine would be to turn your SP404 on... I'm sure MIDI capabilities are going to be dope, and you can always resample your guitar from the Verselab to the SP404. This as a companion controller for the 404 sounds too good for me to pass up

    After watching a couple vids & reading some specs on the MV-1... The MC 707 BLOWS this thing out the water as it already on its way to its 7th up & coming firmware update...
    They shouldve just made THE mv-1 a FIRMWARE UPDATE for the MC 707 with all the newer capabilities it has... The 707 is a monster of a machine already BUT would be a FUCKIN BEAST ON STEROIDZ with all the updated, fresh patches/presets geared toward a more relevant sounding HIP HOP /TRAP & DRILL genres - longer sample time & vocal recording... Youd be able to flip whole songs... take an accapella vocal & completely remix it in one machine wit NO COMPUTER or chop up and remix several accapellas and make sick mix tape style medleys or Dj an entire party or club from all the songs you just remixed... I REALLY HOPE THEY PREPARE A FIRMWARE REVAMP THAT ENABLES 707 users to take advantage of these features!!! It would make the 707 s i c k l y __ r e d i c u l o u s!!

    I use the AKAI Force which does exactly all of this Mv1 stuff but it is bigger and better. Akai force is the pro version, a real DAW in a box with the new arranger mode, lazy chop, 8 audio tracks, Ableton export and loads more.
