    ↓↓Full description and references below↓↓
    Joe DeSimone cofounded Carbon (formerly Carbon3D) to bring chemistry to bear on 3-D printing. Join us as we learn how this has enabled the company to print at unprecedented speeds and churn out materials that have never been printed before. And find out why Carbon believes it’s poised to kick off a new era of 3-D manufacturing.
    And if you want to learn more about the amazing work being done by e-NABLE volunteers, visit their website: enablingthefuture.org/ They’ve also got a collection of material available at the NIH 3-D Print Exchange: 3dprint.nih.gov/collections/pr...
    Special thanks to Jen Owen of e-NABLE for sharing footage for this episode.
    All of the Carbon printer footage is sped up. Although these printers are way faster than conventional 3-D printers, they still takes minutes or hours to create parts.

    Ah, always great to see 3-d printing. I truly hope this industry booms in the next few years.. ..and it's not because I got money in those companies.. not. at. all

    I would love to see 3D printing change the medical field. Medical equipment is really expensive, this changes that.

    I have a nice older Kawasaki that was missing its' airbox when I got it, and of course with age comes unavailability. Imagine a company that could make up parts like this to keep an older machine running.

    I would love to see 3d printing move towards high heat metals for eg: engineering parts for construction of bridges, vehicle parts, buildings etc.
    Even hip replacement or artificial sternum or an artificial spinal disc etc.

    • @MattDavenportPhD
      @MattDavenportPhD 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dragon Skunk Oh man! Thanks for asking! I totally should have said something about that. All of the printing footage is sped up. Even though these printers are much, much faster than conventional 3-D printers, they still take minutes or hours to produce parts (for instance, that spiny ~2.5-inch-cube thing that we show at about 20 seconds took roughly 4 minutes to print). Thanks again for the comment and sorry for leaving that out.

    3d printing has been advancing well. I've seen plasma 3d printing; they argued it was a general 3d printing technology. Certainly seems to be the case that one has to bring something more than a printer to make 3d printing practical.

    • @oker59
      @oker59 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +oker59 it might be cool to combine all the latest A.I. with these general 3d printing technologies. Use A.I. to find ways to improving 3d printing, and use A.I. to design and control what products come out of 3d printing. There's all kinds of interesting A.I these days - IBMWatson and ebrain.

      +oker59 are we ready to 3d print racecars yet? I know. . . . I think it was brookhaven particle accelerator . . . that they 3d printed a Cobra sportscar.

    How can 3D-printing be used to reduce the amount of plastic waste we produce? Is anyone developing a mass market viable way to 3D-print biodegradable objects which can replace plastics in the future? I'd like to be able to print a spare part for a piece of tech I'm using, and then just throw it on the compost heap when it's no longer needed. Can we do that? I mean, at prices so average people will be able to afford it, not just as a cool novelty product.

    Battlebots guy technically wasn't cheating by using a net. There was an oversight in excluding nets in the rules. But they re-fought the match anyway.

    • @ronniedark
      @ronniedark 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +MARTHA SHIVERS I think he meant that as a compliment. I mean, to be considered "cheating" on something like Battle Bots, it would take some serious out-of-the-box thinking to implement a strategy that would give him an unconventional advantage. This is the kind of thinking that would be critical to the success of a project like this.

    Imagine you are in a hospital and you need a heart, and the medics print it:
    You see the machine, see that "blood" in the plate of it, and a black square starts to sightly "pull out" a heart, almost equal to the one you lost. They do surgery on you an put that thing in your chest.
    You life is now the same before you go there. You have a second chance. Thanks to that...
