Very good info. One important thing though, rabbits need a break on their feet and body's from the wire bottom of the cages. We put a cut piece of plywood on one side of cage, but each of our rabbits also had a hutch. They don't poop in the hutch because we don't put any hay in them. Rabbits pick an area or two to do their business and you do want that falling through the wire. They usually will poop wherever the straw or grass is given. We leave a lot of grass hay on a piece of plywood cut to hold the hay, let bunnies rest, and chew on. Its easy to lift out and clean when needed. They also get cleaned out empty Gatorade bottles filled with rocks to throw around and play. We also give them a mineral salt wheel, chew sticks, and each one gets a stuffed animal toy. Rabbits are smart and social critters. Even if you are using them for meat, they deserve a happy, healthy life while they are here. Blessings

My dad raised rabbits, and he was always careful to see they had something to stand on, so their feet did not get hurt on the wire. Please check into this, they cannot get away from the screen.
His lot looks fairly narrow. I’m buying a lot that is about 130 foot against the road and about 310 foot deep and it looks sort of like this. I’m putting a 16x80 (16x76 without the tongue) mobile home on the lot but bc of regulations it has to be 50’ back from the road and the long side has to face the road so that’s giving me a fairly large front yard like this. I’ll still have about 2/3 to 3/4 of an acre behind the house and based on some loose mapping out I’ve done I’ll be able to have a chicken coop for egg chickens (about a 10x30 run and a 10x10 hen house), a 12x24 tiny home for a guest house with a small yard around it, a 12x40 work shop, a 12x40 RV port, a 30x36 carport, a 6’ porch wrapped around the mobile home, and still be able to grow about 1/3 acre worth of vegetables and do what I’ve seen a homesteader on here do and get a chicken tractor for meat chickens and pull it between the rows of vegetables for fertilizer purposes. Keep in mind there are apartment complexes in the United States that sit on one acre lots. These 1 acre complexes (in suburban areas) can have a good 150 apartments with plenty of parking. It’s possible this guy may be saying he has a one acre homestead because his back yard is one acre but even then I don’t know.
i got 250 free pallets in one go this year, a lot of them were in perfect condition. i plan on getting chickens this year and building an epic chicken tractor. i just stumbled upon your video and i'm glad to see that i am not the only crazy person out there doing this. I wish you, your family and your homestead the best of luck. Happy harvesting my friend :)
Your family should be proud of your accomplishments. The hard work put into your homestead shines brightly. I love that your pup is camera shy. She's a cutie, for certain.
A better way to keep your bunnies would be in a small shed with a fenced yard. They’d be free to run around and do what bunnies do, yet still be safe. Then you just scoop the poop for you garden.
Great use of 1 acre!! We have 15 acres and we've raised a dozen cattle and a horse on it. It was actually too many cows and we sold them off, we started with 4. You could easily raise a few cows, some goats, chickens, etc. very comfortably 10-15 acres and have plenty of room for a nice garden and your kids to roam on. Ours is on a dead-end road, which has been great. We have two farm dogs, a cat and a horse outside on ours now and I don't have to worry about traffic. It's been great when our grandkids visit. They love to help with chores, go for walks and excursions in the woods. We live in a rural area, so we have plenty of game available too. BTW - I LOVE your water catchment system. Great job!!
You can create flower beds in the front yard too. Put all the pretty flowers on the outer edges of the beds all the way around them. Then in the middle of the beds (hidden from street view) you plant vegetables & herbs. I always stash food crops in the flower beds. It looks like pretty landscaping from the street/prying eyes, but you get to further your food crops at the same time
Most people cannot visualize 1 acre because they have nothing to compare it to and because an acre can be any shape as long as it is 43,560 sq.ft. That is just about the size of a football field without the sidelines. So if they can imagine how much each 10 yard line is, they can imagine how much can be garden, how much can be chickens, how much house and lawn can be etc.
Hey! We’re also on 1 acre! Learning and growing on every possible inch we possibly can. It’s great to see how others have gotten creative on a small scale !
Put a container garden over your leach field. A couple of those water catchment tanks cut in half would work nice and if you need to move them, you can just drag them around.
I am here to tell you youngin. when I was younger than you I had milk goats, chickens, pigs, ducks and geese. Oh and a large garden. I raised and grew "most of what we ate." It can be done on a small homestead. Love your videos keep em coming.
You are so blessed to be able to homestead. In our city, we can't catch rainwater or hang our clothes out to dry. That is against the law in Provo, UT. You are a great example of what you can do if you just put your mind to it. Thanks for sharing.
Nice set up. I see, that you are in Lebanon, I am in Sidney, just got a place with 2 acres, and going to homestead it also. One thing on the chicken house, you want to make sure there is no cracks, since we have black, and brown snakes in our region. I will be doing that when I build a coop. Plus, with rats, weasels, mink, you have to have wire on the ground, so they don't dig under. Oh, and I found a cool beehive that I am going to try, once I am ready to get into that. I will email that to you.
Brad you have an amazing family and do so much with them. I for one know I could never home school my kids well because I'm not that smart. lol No really I had to quit school and go to work in the 8th grade. My dads was killed when I was young and my mom needed some help paying the bills.I would do it again if I needed to because my mom was the best person in my life. I worked for 2 companies in my life one was a major newspaper and the other was a correctional facility. I retired from the newspaper after 25 years and then went to work for a correctional facility and worked there 15 years before I became disabled. I loved working and I do miss it but now I'm living a very simple life with a big pond in the back yard that I can get my wheel chair up to the water. So I spend lots of time fishing during the summer months. I miss having a garden because I love fresh veggies. You have a great place even if it is small for the size of your family. Just remember you have a couple of kids that will be leaving home soon and that will give you more space. As far as your septic lines we planted a garden over ours and it didn't hurt a thing. I wish you all the best and maybe soon you will find the new place to call home.
I didn't think the sound was bad, I had no problems hearing you. This was a great outdoor tour. I hope you do it again soon. If your boys do another pallet building I hope you get it on video and share it on YT.
The title says one acre homestead?? I live on 1 acre as well and my yard isn't half as big as this one!! But It definitely gave me a couple good ideas so thanks for sharing.
Really awesome, guys! Where I work I occasionally get in 100" x 48" skids that are so well constructed I've mentioned the fact that I'd like to accumulate about a dozen of them to make a nice shed. Maybe someday. If you've got a spring or any kind of water run look into making a ram pump for moving water to storage tanks for watering the garden and livestock. The pump doesn't use electricity. It uses the energy of the water. Really amazing. Wranglerstar has a very good set of video's on this.
Paul Wheaton puts his bee hives up on a platform with a roof and surrounded with electric fence to keep the bears out. in the winter he puts hay bails around them to keep them warm.
You are such an encouragement for our family! We're currently renting a house, but hope to buy this coming Spring. Because we live in the city (and plan to stay here because we're helping plant a church) we will only be able to afford an acre or max two. I love seeing your little homestead on an acre!
I enjoyed your tour, everything looks very nice. Love the open of the land . We have a little less then 3/4 of an acre with many Hugh trees. So we have a small garden and 4 chickens. Love the size of your garden , I am jealous. We are in West Tennessee. Have a great day .
I love watching your family, reminds me of mine, I am #5 of 6, Dad even got a cow to save money on milk, though we didn't own our land, but it was a blast!
as far as the bees are concerned, do you have plenty of bee friendly flowers in the spring and summer? They need a large variety of flowers to eat from in order to stay healthy.
Great videos. I'm retiring in a few years and will be looking to start a small family farm. Think I will have 5-10 acres to work with and seeing things like this gives me an good idea of what I will be able to do.
For what you have already, you could get by on 5. But I know you want to expand a little so good idea to try to get more than 5. For what I want to do I need a minimum of 3 acres. Would like to have more, but right now I think I'd be lucky just to get 3.
Really enjoyed the tour! Someone else made the comment as well, but I would suggest the food forest layering method. It's like a whole new layer/dimension to what you have now, which is impressive at this stage.
You could grow some beans and it would give you more protein per ounce than rabbit meat. Plus you don't have to kill anything to get the protein through beans.
Thanks for the video! My husband is pretty set on wanting at least 5+ acres when we finally buy something, and I can't wait to watch this with him. Any chance you'll make an updated on in summer when you have meat birds and your garden fully going?
Awesome video, beautiful family. We just bought an acre and I'd like to start growing my own food and veggies fruit trees ect. Thank you for the ideas, God bless!
You have done a great job with your land! We've been on our acre for 6 1/2 years and it's just not enough space. We have found it be so limiting. We're Saving up for a minimum of 5 acres.... but hoping for more.

Good job building that house there Grace!
She's got the mind of an engineer ;)
That looks like more than an acre
I own exactly 1.1 acres and this does look like more than 1.
That's what I was thinking. We are looking at a property right now that is 1 acre. That looks more like 3 to me. 1 in the front and 2 in the back.
Yeah I’m moving onto an acre and I don’t have nearly that much space lol

He said he had the rabbit tractor. They obviously aren’t always in the cages, but he did say it was winter. It gets -20 in Ohio,

Yeah, I’m on 1.29 acres.....this is way bigger
Make sure you land is surveyed correctly
Thank you so much for the tour. Your family are great role models for Americans. Hugs
Thanks for the tour Brad! You have awesome things going on there! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing the video of your lovely home and family with us!
Nice set up. I see, that you are in Lebanon, I am in Sidney, just got a place with 2 acres, and going to homestead it also. First time ive seen rabbits hanging in steel wire. Hopefully they dont live their whole lives like that...?
I only have 200 square meters that I grow vegetables. I make an average income. Your 1 arce is heaven for me.
Nice tour. Thanks a lot. I aim to do that in an acre or two acre someday. Just starting out now, gathering experience on various subjects..

Great tour Brad. I too can't wait for spring to get things started here
I recommend you put mats on the floor of the rabbit cages so feet dont get hurt because they dont have padded feet.
The title says one acre homestead?? I live on 1 acre as well and my yard isn't half as big as this one!! But It definitely gave me a couple good ideas so thanks for sharing.
I was thinking the same , looks more like 3 acres at least.

You have a wonderful family and nice home.
Try putting straw balls around your bee hives to keep the wind off of them
I love watching your family, reminds me of mine, I am #5 of 6, Dad even got a cow to save money on milk, though we didn't own our land, but it was a blast!
as far as the bees are concerned, do you have plenty of bee friendly flowers in the spring and summer? They need a large variety of flowers to eat from in order to stay healthy.
Love it ! One acre is so much bigger than I thought ...
1 acre is 91% a football field....
You have more than that 😂😂
Looks like you are closing in on 40,000 subs...congrats!
Awesome tour.....thanks for sharing......animals looks so happy and loved!
Great videos. I'm retiring in a few years and will be looking to start a small family farm. Think I will have 5-10 acres to work with and seeing things like this gives me an good idea of what I will be able to do.
Enjoyed this. This is one of the things my hubby and I don't agree on as we are looking for our homestead. He says 1 acre, I say at least 3, LOL.
We think our ideal would be 5-10. Mostly for the animals to graze and keep our food costs down.,
For what you have already, you could get by on 5. But I know you want to expand a little so good idea to try to get more than 5. For what I want to do I need a minimum of 3 acres. Would like to have more, but right now I think I'd be lucky just to get 3.
what a beautiful family you have!! God bless you all!
tanks for the tour.. nice piece of land.. Christa I like your layers in your hair..
This is my favorite video that you've ever done. Do more like this.
Great tour! Really enjoyed it. Have a good evening!!!
Thanks Traci!
Really enjoyed the tour! Someone else made the comment as well, but I would suggest the food forest layering method. It's like a whole new layer/dimension to what you have now, which is impressive at this stage.

Christian Hurd good idea. while I prefer my rabbits with greens and potatoes it's also nice to put some rabbit in slow cooker beans from time to time.
Enjoyed the tour! Great work Big Family Homestead!
Fantastic! Great use of small space.
looks so good we feel like we are in your yard
Beautiful!
Love your little homestead! You guys are doing great! Love all the crate projects! I wish I had those skills!
Thanks for the video! My husband is pretty set on wanting at least 5+ acres when we finally buy something, and I can't wait to watch this with him. Any chance you'll make an updated on in summer when you have meat birds and your garden fully going?
nice tour thank you for showing us.
Looks like more than one acre! Wow! What goes in the converted dog kennel, btw?
Animal feed. Nearly gone right now, time to restock!
I think when these vloggers use wide angle it makes it look much larger.
Sound was fine! always enjoy your channel
rain catchment is awesome wow I wish I had that that looks cool
Awesome video, beautiful family. We just bought an acre and I'd like to start growing my own food and veggies fruit trees ect. Thank you for the ideas, God bless!
Hey Brad, its Jeremy from Mapleberry Farm, nice to meet you :)
Looks like more than 1 acre. I have 2 1/2 and it looks like about the same .
You have done a great job with your land! We've been on our acre for 6 1/2 years and it's just not enough space. We have found it be so limiting. We're Saving up for a minimum of 5 acres.... but hoping for more.
Thanks for the tour! Video looks nice and crisp!
I was just wondering yesterday if you had a homestead tour video. Great video and great job making good use of the space you do have! -Dede
#LifeGoals!!! You guys are such an encouragement and blessing! Thanks for sharing your lives with us!
Didn't realize 1acre was so big, city girl here. Awesome

Just started watching your you tubes ! I'm excited we live in spencer ,wi take care Enjoy Wisconsin ! Need anything just ask ! We love our goats too !!
Great tour
ohh good idea on the cinder block raised beds!!! . (wood caps would beautify them)..?
In my county you must have at least 9 acres to have cyows, goats, pigs, etc. Big crits like that. How do you activate charcoal?
Like this tour, encouraging me. Thanks for sharing.
I love your school room! We just have a school corner. We are still working on getting it functional, though.
I love the Cherokee Purple . Had a small issue with the stink bugs. Any tips on keeping them off the plants?
Good audio considering how windy it is.
you have a nice set up there,,thanks for the tour
Loved the tour! Thank you.
Nice tour, thanks for doing it. I really enjoyed the video.
Check out michigansnowpony on YT. I don't remember if she bought or her hubby made her raised box beds for them. They sit off the ground on cinder blocks. Maybe you could use these on your septic area. The boxes never touch the ground so you wouldn't have to worry about the septic. (on my tablet and it won't let me copy and paste links.)
When you get pallets, there should be a branded or printed symbol that tells the country of origin, sometimes original company and treatments used. The most common treatment is HT or heat treated. Yoou may also see some with MB on them. This Methyl Bromide which is way toxic and you should just leave them alone. Methyl Bromide can be absorbed through breathing sawdust, inhaling smoke if burned, through food that might be prepared on a cutting board made from it. Just a quick heads up.
Do your goats ever escape out of the fence?
bees may have frozen next year move them inside a shed or get foam and build a box over them leaving their entarence
Hello from Kingdom of Spain. Good job.
Definitely get a fuzzy thing. It could even be a literal sock.
I have to subscribe just for the sheer fact that you have a Ruthie too! ;) But seriously, enjoyed looking at the set up. Our "homestead" is a tiny lot of 54ft x 100ft... it's really just a garden at this stage.
Do you bunny barter? When I was a kid. I raised rabbits and would trade them for comic books, bb guns, fishing gear and all kinds of cool stuff. Godspeed.
i raise mixed breed mini rabbits for fertilizer. I accasionally sell baby bunnies especially if it's a large litter
I am want to have a place like this man, and get back bees hive to life, nice video and thanks for sharing this with as.
The thumbnail picture looks like one ginormously fat goat to me! lol
great tour thanks
Good quality picture. Wide angle lens? Good audio too!(without the wind)
is this really one acre? 204 by 204 ft?
Hi Brad and Christa, do you have a video on how to build your chicken tractor?
Yup here you go--- th-cam.com/video/csorGn_mRuU/w-d-xo.html
