Beautiful garden... reminds me of all the gardens my parents and grandparents had when i was growing up, and seeing your kids working in garden took me back to helping when I was a kid. When my grandparents got too old to do it themselves, we kids planted and tended the garden ourselves, with my grandpas direct supervision (he never got to old to supervise and share his wisdom) I love seeing when people grow a more traditional garden like most people used to do.

We just keep losing plants as rain continues to be elusive, we ended up losing every zucchini plant and got 5 or 6 zucchinis, tomatoes we should have harvested 100lbs by now and have harvested maybe 4lbs. Not a single pumpkin or melon yet, maybe a dozen cucumbers, no peppers harvested. Rotten year. 😭And day 136 of unemployed life.

We got a lot of cucumbers too, and since I only planted English cucumbers this year, our neighbors has been blessed with a lot. We got just under 400 of them. For the first time, I also made freezer pickled cucumbers. I am very excited to see how those turn out. I am also pickling cherry tomatoes for the first time, since those are giving us a lot this year. I have removed my cucumber plants, since they were done, and have planted melons instead. We will have hot/warm weather until November, so it should be enough time for them to grow and set fruit.
I love that your entire family is so involved in your homesteadig. Your kids are so active in this life and gardening.it's so refreshing to see this, so many would not even touch a plant let alone get their hands dirty and be digging around for their food. Great job on The gardening and raising your family.

I was about to comment on the distinctive shape of the Rose Of Milan ... and then it was confirmed. A great Onion choice. We do about 800 Onions for the year. Half are Rossa di Milano.

Love those channels! We naturally preserve a little bit each day all summer. It’s the best way to get a big amount preserved for winter without the overwhelm. I’ve never formally participated in the challenge just because I’m already doing it.
Provider Bush beans are a very good choice. You grow a few varieties that are my favs. Sweet potatoes don't stand much of a chance in the midwest with all the deer pressure. Cucumbers are the same but cucumber beetle is the worst. You are doing very good things here. ❤
Maybe sometime you could show us the details of your irrigation system. It looks like you use a lot of drip irrigation. I searched the TH-cam site and it seems this topic has not been covered in the past.
So if you take a piece of thick wire and you make like a swirl on the bottom and having the other end stickup Street what you do is you poke your onion stem into that middle piece and slide it down and you make every other one I think I'm explaining that right but anyways you do that and you can cut the ends of the onions prior to doing that or you can cut it when it's on that bunch it's almost like braiding it

Why don’t you use the green onions portion of the onions? I saw another TH-cam just drying them as well. You can chop them up and freeze to use for cooking.
The Buckwheat……why would you grow it, then crimp and tarp it? Do you harvest any wheat from it? I’m totally ignorant about stuff like that, so I don’t understand….thanks to anyone who can answer that.
@@TheSeasonalHomestead It would cost about a quarter of what you paid for that freeze dryer. 164 foot rolls are around $200. You also have to consider the cost of materials and the hours upon hours of wasted labor growing those plants only to be eaten by the wildlife.

But I already have a welded wire fence that keeps out the big wildlife so what I will likely do is add a hot wire along base of the fence or maybe even some chicken wire, for a fraction of the price. We already have a hot wire at the top for raccoons. The other pest I've had is voles! Lucky for me, a stray cat has made a home under our new shed and its picking them off :)
What state is this? You guys seem to have a mild summer compared to GA. The only reason we'd wear long sleeves is to keep the mosquitos off, it's hot and humid here!
It’s Arkansas. We’ve been over 100 degrees for the past couple weeks. High humidity too. Video was shot in the morning when it wasn’t as hot. I do wear long sleeves a lot more often now when I garden even in the heat because I don’t like the itchy arms from weeding and picking squash and tomatoes.
There are two things that you could do did keep bugs from eating your vegetable 🥒🍆 and fruit 🍓🍑. Primanti's accident spelling it right Knoebels walking stick bug. And the one that I use in my garden is ladybugs . You can buy them an order by hundreds or thousands ladybug 🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞. You will not have no pest 🪳🦟
Drip lines are on four different zones. Right now we have 12-18 100 foot long drip lines on a zone. We get 15 gpm from our well. I’m still testing it out, I think I need to drop to 10 lines a zone for optimum watering.

Haha! It would definitely be nice if they were more gentle. I think they were more concerned about getting the job done 🤣We didn't have any bruising, at least as far as I know.
@alindalt2897 it threw me off when she was talking about being in the south. I'm in Georgia and we don't get snow in the winter. I just had it in my head that was where they were lol. The south definitely has places that get snow even if my corner maybe gets some once a decade or less

Premier 1 electric poultry fence solve my rabbit, squirrel, and raccoon problems, none of them will come anywhere close to my garden now.
I love that idea, but it would be so expensive for my garden! 800 ft of fencing to go all the way around the perimeter 😬
