    Good points, well said.
    So many variables, 1st yr in seeing how silly a static training plan is. You gotta listen to your body and have multiple workouts memorized because most days you dont know what's up until a couple miles pass. Of course dont neglect your goal needs just saying somedays a certain workout (intervals, hills etc) could setback the entire week or more if the body wants a day off or some slow easy mileage.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to think of training in terms of weeks not days.

    You’re a tank! I’ve dropped off from running lately because sidewalks are so icy up here in Canada but I’ve stepped up my bike game with Zwift indoors. At least there’s that but I miss nice runs like these ones! Keep it up!

    I agree on the back to back long runs: we are not pro's who follow a strict training plan. I personally like back to back long runs because I know there are going to be periods that hardly allow for anything longer than 5 mile runs. Even the timing of the long runs is not "free", it very much depends on family and work schedules. I always look forward to two days that allow for many miles as there will be many resttimes to come :-)

    I think what you're talking about is the neural pathways they can deteriorate quite quickly which is why the first run after several days off feels a little bit and easy and then the next day you feel more fluid again comma they go a lot quicker than muscle tone obviously and it's something that I've become really aware of in the last couple of months.

    Start running seriously only at 49, I try to keep a keen eye on my muscle and especially joint after a run, and after a couple of trials and errors, I kinda settled on two run a week schedule. I'm just amazed that you can run almost every day 😲😲😲

    I have some weekend that has a sort of back to back long run. For example I will do a 14km to 16km on saturday and a Longer fast finish run on Sunday (25km to 30km). I also believe that our muscle will remember how to push through with tired legs. I only do it once every month.

    Great tips... I've bonked both my marathons as well and really trying to prevent that this October in Chicago. Do you think your approach of consecutive long-ish runs of different types helped you get over that hump?

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It did. And it helped with confidence too. The Wall is as much mental as it is physical

    • @cebukid70
      @cebukid70 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kofuzi Agreed... it's a mental barrier to overcome that pain. Also, the Hanson's plan, actually a popular one for advanced marathoners, promotes back-to-back long runs instead of the 1 long run on the weekend.
