- This run is pretty much the same as Nightmare except for the fact that you can't reload checkpoints, which means that if you fail a skip you have to do a backup strat & you can't do cutscene skips in bossfights. Also, Ultra-Nightmare skips the intro/tutorial and most importantly, if you die you have to start from scratch. Added 4 seconds to the time because of limited brain functionality. almost a quarter of a century since I did speedruns in DOOM 1, but I gotta say: you young uns are the bomb! To even keep the orientation in those vast levels is beyond me. That was amazing to watch. Kudos and thanx for sharing.
Legit speedrun! Dang. It took me DAYS to just beat UAC on Ultra Nightmare. Mad props. I think I read some of your notes somewhere about how to approach it.

if someone sees faster runs, take care that they use ng+ (weapon upgrades, nearly unlimited ammo, massive health etc) when they start.

That casual disinterest with which the demons are brutalised makes me understand the depth of their terror at facing Doomguy.

Y'know, wouldn't it have been great if the final boss was some dude with a pencil mustache, red long johns, a Dracula cape, and a pitchfork? Yeah. And I also think that it would improve the game if you happened to come upon a pet cat who had been left in the research facility in Hell and you could choose to bring it with you, carrying it in one arm while waging your war on the forces of evil. That would really add to the narrative, I think. It could be named little Slayer Kitten. And then in the climactic final battle when the red long johns devil guy changes into a titanic abomination he would grab you and he'd be just about to stab you with his similarly titanic super pitchfork, and then little Slayer Kitten would leap from your arm to scratch at one of his eyes, distracting him just long enough for you equip your two-handed gun (which you couldn't use up to this point because you would have been carrying Slayer Kitten) and blow him apart. Then you would turn to little Slayer Kitten and say, "You are a little Slayer Kitten no longer. Now you are a big damn Slayer Cat." And then he would get a set of Slayer Cat power armor and the credits would roll as you both prepare to kill off the rest of Hell together... neither of you alone anymore, having truly become a family.
Also, the Doom guy would take off his helmet and he would be Bruce Campbell.
And give him a biscuit....wait no...slayer kitten then slays you

The times are all relatively similar, so TH-cam choses the exact same spot in the video to grab a thumbnail from.

just look at the quick onslaught at the train the 41 minute mark .

I feel like UN should eventually replace nightmare speedruns as a popular category (with nightmare used for marathon runs/races), since long-term you should basically be restarting after fucking up a major skip/dying
plus, having bad runs is slightly offset by being able to skip three minutes of nothing at the start
Yeah, we'll see how the categories evolve over time. I definitely don't want to overbloat the game with a huge amount of pointless categories that overlap with each other

+DraQu Is it true that Doom on Ultra Nightmare is harder to beat on the PS4 due to the inability to rotate the camera as quickly or rapidly scroll through weapons? I've noticed that everyone who's beaten Doom on UN so far has done so on a PC.

Tell me, whenever you're on a run that's about to set a WR is there ever a feeling that goes with it? Like do you lock into some sort of flow or do you just kind of wing it and hope for the best? Always been curious about this.

Awesome run! Don't know if it will help but om my 1st play through I accidentally glitched through the floor in the big room at 41:20 finishing the level withough getting the yellow key card. Not sure how I did it though:( Edit: Think I might be remembering it wrong, I think I glitched through the floor of the oudoor area with the spaceship up top.

This looks pretty tame for nightmare.
I've played every DOOM game in the franchise, and I played this one years before I played DOOM Eternal. I just recently started playing this one again and I HATE the fact that you can't double jump at the beginning of the game; I'm so used to double jumping everywhere in DOOM Eternal 😂
Could I use the out of map glitch in the first level on console to get the achievement for beating the first level on Ultra Nightmare?

Why is he dealing so much damage? When i fought the cyberdemon it took ages because my weapons dealt so little. A bfg shot fro me dealt the same amount as a gauss cannon bodyshot for him

Keyboard and mouse is the way to play fps games when I switch to a controller I feel like moving slower than usual too.
