    Some of my best fishing memories are from my early teenage years fishing the ponds in KY,,they all were over grown with cattails and my only lure was a 3.5" jerk bait In the bluegill pattern,,I literally caught thousands of Large mouth bass on that one lure,,I came close to drowning on several occasions going after my only lure hung in the cattails,,here it is 44 years later and I still have that lure in my tackle box, although I won't throw it again out of fear of loosing it....Thanks for the memories Matt.,

    Gotta throw the 110 jr. On a spinning rod. You can cast so much further, especially into the wind with no backlash and you have the braid to leader and the better drag to keep them pinned. 😉

    I love my Megabass Destroyer Evoluzion Shamrock rod paired with the Abu Garcia Revo MGX baitcasting reel. It's got a medium power with a regular taper. Super light and sensative with more than enough power to set the hooks and get fish in the net. It's an insanely expensive combo but it will throw 1/4oz. to 5/8oz. Jerkbait's with equal enthusiasm.

    Love this channel, and great tips all around. But I laugh when I look up the recommended tackle--I just can't swing $30 per lure, and a $100 rod isn't a "budget" rod in my world. The St Croix 6'8" Mojo Bass "Topwater" M/XF rod is the perfect action for jerkbaits for anyone on somewhat of a budget. It bends all the way through but not a lot in the tip so you can work the bait and feel the bites on the twitch. Perfect length too for us kayakers.

    • @walkeronegaming
      @walkeronegaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      does yours say topwater on it? i have the same one and it says jerkbait. i got the 6'8 since i'm usually in a yak or on the bank. i also love it for lighter texas rigs and worms! didn't use it a lot at first but it's probably my 2nd favorite rod right now

    • @shred5
      @shred5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@walkeronegaming The topwater is M/XF and the jerkbait is M/F. They are the same length. The jerkbait is like a medium plus in power with a soft tip, and the topwater has less tip and a stiffer tip, but is a true medium in what you'd expect from most medium power spinning rods.
      My youngest son has the plastics rod which is the 7'1" version of the jerkbait rod and they generally work for the same thing but I prefer the topwater for lighter lures like poppers and the plastics rod for plastics. Jerkbaits is a fairly tough call, both are stiffer rods than what many use etc.

    Are these best thrown on mono or flouro line? If so what brand? I have yet to find a good brand of mono. When would you recommend down sizing jerkbaits and when to use plastic jerk baits? What colors as well? I have had mediocre to fair success on white.

    • @shadygraves
      @shadygraves 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer mono on most all treble hook lures. That little bit of stretch is more forgiving. I also downsize when the bite is tough or when the baitfish are smaller, like fry, gambusia minnows, or young shad. Lastly, I go to plastic (Zoom Super Fluke) when I need my lure to be weedless. As far as color, believe it or not, clown has always been my best hard jerkbait color. For soft baits, I like pearl white first (I live on the shad-filled Coosa River), albino, watermelon magic, and mardi gras.

    Recommendations on spinning rod for jerkbait fishing? Or just follow the equivalent spinning rods to your recommendations? Also, how about the drag settings for spinning a jerkbait?

    Jerkbait is my #1 favorite method for catching bass. it's so strange some days they prefer spinner bait, crank bait. Some days, it's top water baits or jigs. Every time it gets slower I switch to jerkbait works 99% of the time

    I know from previous videos you have recommend a shorter, lighter action for smaller people while frog fishing. Would you recommend doing the same for a jerkbait

      Not from a hook setting standpoint, but yes, because shorter people will constantly hit the surface of the water with the rod tip when using a longer rod.

    Hey guys. Love the content. I just bought a vision 110 sexy shad. Little surprised on price. Think its worth it compared to say a $2 jerk from bass?

      Yes, 100% there is a giant difference between a Vision 110 and a cheap bait. Better quality throughout, better balance/weight transfer, and perfect weighting. It makes a difference 👍
