Man, I really wish the PC/console version had some of the visual flair of the mobile version's UI. All the stylistic and animated flourishes are so nice looking, without being too distracting.
Seeing all these animation improvements, animations for FREAKING slide casting!!!, better lighting and quality of life options brings me to the question - what has CBU3 and Square been doing all those years with FF14? Where are those things in the OG? I know the engine is old, but adding some animations can't be that hard...
The important things from these level maps in retail are rare crafting materials that still go for a lot of gil. Can't help but notice there was no icon representing them.
As someone who never did treasure maps in retail, I love this- I honestly just forget they exist. I’m super interested to see how these QoL updates will end up affecting PC, I wonder if anything is already in development given how far along mobile is or whether community pressure might encourage some updates in future. It definitely feels far more modern and high quality compared to retail UI (not to mention the better glamour system, maps etc)
@@mitchellradspinner4491 May have to do with all the fantasitc QoL that mobile game has. But I'm hoping with 7.2 onward we get those QoL in PC/Console!

The UI/UX certainly looks better with a lot of thought put into it and a fair amount of the animations feel more impactful (plus movement is nicer too). Honestly, apart from that though, overall retail is a lot better visually, especially since Dawntrail with the graphical fidelity updates that came with it. Though I argue retail can still look better and SE needs to keep those graphical updates coming, but that's just me 🤷
Because Square Enix provided assets for the graphical update to the third party mobile team ahead of its implementation in the base game. Which they've admitted having done so. In 7.1 we got the area and zone updates for ARR and they said we'll start to see gear being updated to the new materials in batches from 7.2 onward.
@@iArcanex The graphical updates are still coming, they'll be ongoing into 8.X and 7.1 updated lighting in every piece of instanced content as well as updated all ARR towns and zones to Dawntrail's graphical fidelity and item density; aside from Gold Saucer, Mor Dhona, Coerthas; as they were done in 7.0. If you haven't recently, I would encourage going through every ARR zone and checking out the updates, some of them are utterly insane and make zones look completely different, like Bronze Lake and Western Thanalan, for example. Retail will look better throughout all of 7.X and will look even better by the time they finish the graphical update in 8.X. It's just gonna be a long haul until we actually get there.
@ Yeah I heard, honestly there are parts that still feel outdated and desaturated to me, which I feel pulls this game down a notch. I'm hoping the graphical updates they promised to come include updates to animations/locomotion and the zone refreshes terraform existing areas to have more verticality with an increase of entities across the map so it feels more lived in, however I don't think they'll go that route.
I don't really like this, tbh (the radar). Map scouting was like, one of the few unique parts of maps, this just kind of kills it. It makes a bit of sense on mobile because there's less space on the screen to have both the map + the minimap up, but this isn't something I'd want on retail.
Funny how yet again, several of these mobile features are shit we have add-ons for that would get your account suspended if caught. SE truly could never, it seems.
I love the changes to maps in mobile, really hope they come to retail. though not very fond of the idea of having to get lucky on a solo map to get a team map.
I haven't played the game for months probably, but I'm still subbed because of the housing system. Tencent actually gave money to SE. I do know what you mean about SE making other games instead of just investing in their current biggest and most needing MMO, though.

If you understand how coding works, then yes, the spaghetti code is the issue. They're using the same engine from 2013 that they scrambled to pull together after the initial launch of XIV failed. The amount of technical debt this engine has puts Bungie's Tiger Engine to shame I assure you. Implementing even small items onto the maps most likely takes them days to do simply due to the sheer amount of technical debt the engine has, where one minor change to a menu somewhere causes hundreds of other things to break completely.
If this keeps going on, we might really get people to petition for remaking XIV to get rid of all the old netcode problems and more, seeing how this Mobile take on it does just that. I wouldn't even disagree outside the fact it would take years to rebuild full XIV
The effort and cost involved would necessitate the end of current development for multiple years effectively making it a dead game to many. At the point they were going to remake XIV they’d just make a new mmo.
