    What's pretty cool about Beast Eidolons is that Beasts in Pathfinder aren't just animals. Your beast could be a pegasus, or a phoenix, or a water orm. Regular animals are for Druids & Rangers; go wild!

      That means I could even summon a Centaur since it’s classified as a beast and not a humanoid?
      Hmm…being a summon would solve that ladder issue, lol!

      @davidhigdon794 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I was hoping someone would mention that! The options are so insane that making it "an animal" is doing yourself a disservice. Just a few other fun bits of inspiration for anyone who sees this: krakens, manticores, chupacabras, sphinxes, gargoyles, and wargs, just to name a few.

      I made a Chimera eidolon that's a hulking panther-like creature(a mix of Yak-like shoulders/strength and swift panther nibleness) with three horns (one unicorn style+2 sheep horns), lynx ears, echidna spikes scattered in its thick fur, 6 legs like Sleipnir and a long, balancing tail (debating if I should add a scorpion stinger). He'll absolutely become Huge and might get wings at some point. As we level up he'll mutate and grow and might gain other beast features!
      Why play one beast when you can have ALL of them! His name's Mishra, I drew him and he's honestly not as freaky as the description makes it sound, just a big weirdo cat that I love dearly.

    Psycopomps are divine because they're Outsiders belonging to Phasmas realm. All Outsiders are classified as divine for Eidolons

    • @nerezza5943
      @nerezza5943 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think of them as basically Pharasma's angels. Pharasma is the oldest still-existing God in Pathfinder lore right now I think, so she's pretty much the most divine being in existence. I think the lore even says something about her creating the material planes or something similarly significant.
      The weirder thing is that she has domain over healing rather than harming, even though like at least half her psychopomps are scarily more effective at snuffing out mortal lives than they are at fighting the undead (which they hunt). Speaking of, as you clearly noticed you want a psychopomp to fight alongside you against the undead. Although many are arguably better at killing the living, they have techniques clearly developed to counter special traits of the undead.

    A friend of mine introduced me to the summoner class when they heard I had been trying to make a set of homebrew ratfolk twins with the mystic class who used the same actions and hit points in D&D 5e. Literally every part of this class allows me to make the original character concept(s) with official sources by turning one of the twins into the eidolon and eventually add the Psychic archetype (once that's hopefully available). I'm so happy you finally made a video on this, cause putting together my Summoner in Wanderer's Guide was hella confusing without your commentary.

    I've been playing a Summoner in the current Pathfinder campaign I play in and am loving it. I have a Dragon eidolon that I'm currently working my best to turn into as close to full-fledged dragon as possible with size increases and flight and all, while the summoner himself I've been using the Free Archetype feats to go into Oracle and start getting some divine support spells. So as a fight demands it, I can be running a full-on frontline behemoth with my dragon eidolon, or I can play backline support and fling off heals and buffs and the occasional damaging spell with the summoner, and with having them both out and controlling them, I can switch focuses on the fly mid-fight should the tide turn one way or the other. It's made for a really fun and adaptive style of play that has been a blast.

    Mind you, *only undead with the ability to avoid being permanently destroyed by mundane means* can make counteract checks against the psychopomp eidolon's effect, and there's no Will save - the Will *modifier* is used as the counteract modifier.
    Standard undead are just automatically put into Pharasma's waiting room as normal, though it could be implied that this possibly permanently prevents that same undead from being brought back again? Like maybe the bones of a skelly-boy are just thanos-snapped by the psychopomp or something iunno.

    Does the Psychopomp Eidolon final ability work on liches?? Also the Boneyard is like the cosmic crossroads: people go there after they die before being sent to whatever afterlife fits best. The psychopomps check if there is a deity that wants you in their divine realm as a petitioner, or you may be sent to an outer plane matching your alignment. Some souls stay in the Boneyard and wander around, and some even become other psychopomps. The Duskwalker versatile heritage is tied to the Boneyard Lore-wise, as it's a person that died and went to the Boneyard, then returned to try and live their life again.

The concept being that while attempting to turn the fungus into a Leshy, an experimenting Druid accidentally brought the Skeleton back to life as well and now the fungus and Skeleton's life forces are just naturally linked to one another. Justifies the shared HP pool nicely too.

How much is hard because people debate about what shape a cone is on a grid but with a hex grid a cone would at 5ft increments cover 1,3,6,10,15,21,28,36,45,55,66,78 so a 30 ft cone would cover 21 hexes and 60 ft would cover a whopping 78 over triple the area. Whereas with a line you can just double it. So with doubling cones are totally your friend

    Honestly, I'm not a fan of the Summoner class or archetype.
    The Eidolon has some areas in which it is inferior to another class casting a summoning spell. For example, a Cleric can cast Summon Lesser Servitor to summon a Cassisian (one of the Summoner's possible eidolons). When they do, it gains two actions when summoned as well as every time the Cleric uses a single action to sustain their spell. It also has its own health pool as opposed to the Eidolon.
    I think the Summoner needs some errata to buff them and make their Eidolon more desirable when compared to a normal summoning spell. My Cleric's summoned creature should not be able to outperform a dedicated Summoner's Eidolon in any area (like action economy). I mean, it's beneficial to me but I do feel sorry for people playing Summoners.

    2:40 - When you get to part 2, if you wouldn't mind, could you clarify how an eidolon's skill advancement works? I'm trying to figure out if (ignoring dual studies) the summoner and eidolon always have the same skill proficiencies at the same level of proficiency (e.g. when the summoner becomes a Master of Occult, so does the eidolon automatically) or if the RAW mean to say that the eidolon is proficient (trained) in all the summoner's starting skills but doesn't level up skills automatically (that the summoner must spend class features directly on the eidolon for skill increases).
    I believe the correct rule is the former, but in looking around for opinions, I've seen both rulings.

    A 32 minute video is not long. Personally I don't mind videos over 3 hours. Bur apologizing for making your video "long" when it's barely long enough to read the titles is very odd to me.

    Love the video, but I feel like the pace is too fast. You seem to be enthusiastic about the material, but the way you race through it counteracts that some. Comes across either as more worried about time than content, or worse, simply disingenuous to your actual passion for the game because you just want to get through it. I've noticed this as a rising trend in your videos of late.

      This is definitely a big picture summary. This is definitely not good for anyone if they're trying to simply make a character at level 1
