Well, it sounds like a classic to our modern ears of course, but Brahms intended it to sound exaggerated and bombastic on purpose as a joke at the expense of the university administrators who requested that he write it, I forget for what sort of occasion, perhaps a graduation ceremony, but offered no commission fee.
This orchestra is almost exactly like the one that my daughter played with at the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute this summer! She loves to play with it and says it feels like she’s back at ISSI! Thank you, womocoMUSIC!!!

I knew there was Lion's Head base viol in this orchestra. They show it at the begining , but not while it is played. And I can't get screen grab of it. Bah.
