The Treet blades tend to be very good value for money. Over here in Thailand we can get 200 Treet Platinum for about $7. The thing that really surprised me about this video is how different your impression of the Bic blade was. I, and everyone I know, find the Bic Chrome Platinum to be very sharp indeed. That just goes to show that it is a case of horses for courses.

Feather safety razor blades are the best for me, but the other safety razor blades are also acceptable. Thank you for sharing the informative TH-cam video.
I concur with trying multiple blades until you find what is right for you. I’ve probably tried 20. My recent favorite and leader in the clubhouse are Personna Comfort Coated made in the USA. Still have a couple more to try though. I was pleased to find a great blade made right here in the states. Great video as always
I really like the BICs, and I think their distinctive feature is their ability to provide a surprizingly close shave just on the first with the grain pass. They may have a "sandy" feeling on the face on the first shave, but I elimibate that by palm stropping the blade before use. I know that there are many sharper and smoother blades but I started wet shaving with this blade about 5 years ago and since then it has been my main blade. It might seem weird but this background story associated with material objects that I own constitutes part of their value for me, not just their performance at the moment of their use.

I was also extremely impressed with the Treet carbon steel, which I tried for the first time last month. I went a full week between each shave, and the Treet still lasted for five shaves. I used the Parker Variant, and each shave I upped the dial just a bit --my first shave was on 3 for the first pass, and 2 for the second, while five weeks later I had it up to 5+/4 (and usually a 2-3 for a third pass on my neck). All very smooth and no tugging, even on the fifth shave. Very impressive!
2 months into wet shaving now, I had settled on Gillette silver blues in my Henson, but after watching this I decided to try the treet black beauties and I'm, yea they are my new fav :p still haven't tried the regular treet platinums but I think I have a couple left in my sampler gonna give them a go! Thanks for the informative video as always Matt and friends
I have a question, I won a bid on eBay ( yes, I’m that old), and it came with Merkur 38c, stand, boar brush and 95 persona blue. (27$). How long will these lab blue last? The box was pretty old , the blade was sharp and smooth though.
Matt, have you tried the Manscaped DE blades? i got the razor with a few of them. While the razor is just okay, the blades are actually a really nice comfortable shave. To the point that sometimes i forget to change them out after a week and they are still the same amount of comfort.

Seems like they have improved blades a lot from the vintage manufacturing. Shark, Treet and RK blades that came with my Henson work the best for me. Keep up the great videos.
Interesting you liked the Treet I recently bought a couple of your sample kits, I am on the 2nd blade of the Treet Platinum and I really like it. For comparison my main go to blade is the Gillette Platinum. Nice job on the video.
I too love the Personna Med Prep /Lab Blue blades but owning the Rex Ambassador and Konsul which are my two favourite razors I think the perfect pairing is Perma-Sharp closely followed by Polsilver Stainless /Super Iridium/ Wizamet
I have only used the Lord Super and Dorco ST301 (Dorco Red) so far, the Lord blades came with my razor and the Dorco I found locally, I have a full beard so I only shave my neck, the lord blades would last about a month, the Dorco only about 3 weeks. only have been using the DE for about a year. Just ordered a sample pack, should have done that right away. Also now that I have been at it for about a year I think its time to upgrade from my $15 generic ebay razor.
Treet carbon is one of my favorite blades in the Ambassador. I like it better than Perma-Sharp and Personna in the Rex. Not very durable compared to stainless though. 1 and done. Seeing your experience with some vintage blades shows why most people only did a 1 pass WTG shave back in the day.
Great video Matt! First off, I am a true believer in the 2001 Black Obelisk pre-shave! Second, I find trying different DE blades a great adventure! Definitely going to get the persona lab blue, but alas, you are out of stock the the 100 pack. Looking forward to when you get it back in stock though! Thank you for these wonderful videos, they give me insight to what I want to try next! Stan
got a treet carbon steel in rotation right now- i like them as well- and find the black/dark blue color to be cool. still working thru sampler pack, havent settled on an absolute go to but some are slowly emerging as ones to rebuy and others get relegated to do not buy
Hello, thanks for the blade comparison again. However I believe when you said you liked one of them as good as the persona lab blue I thought it was the Dorco not the Tweet. In my experiment with blades the Derby pulled the most and I had to change it before a week went by. Love your video's. Thanks much for the info.
Three words for you, Treat Yo Self... I haven't tried Treet blades yet but now I want to just so I can say this every time I do. I have mostly vintage blades and most times they do tug and pull a lot but they don't nick or cut me and give me a good shave my 47 blue blades where the worst feeling but left my face feeling fresh afterwards. Schick Krona Blades are the best vintage blades I have the Super Chromium, Stainless Steel Krona & Schick Plus Platinum are all great vintage blades. Will also have to get in on that Barbershop Soap and Aftershave I'm working with Rex Supply Co 1955 Old World Tallow and Phoenix Artisan Accouterments King R Emporium Formula CK-6 & Kokum Butter Shave Soaps from Razor Emporium. All are great but the 1955 is my favorite lathers great and the smell is amazing.
For now I have settled on Feather and Bic in my razors. I don't like Gillettes much except the old Rotbart but I only have a few left of those. If my eyes weren't getting so old I would still be using my straight razors (in 3/8 and 5/8 sizes).
One thing I get from your Part 1 and Part 2 reviews is there are many blade brands that work for you. Lots of 4s. But still no Gillette Nacet was included. That's my favorite...followed by the Astra Green and Wilkinson Sword from India. Maybe the WS India and the Nacet could be included in Part 3. Another informative blade comparison. I also like the Personna Lab Blue. But they aren't worth double (or more) the price of my favorites.
Thanks for the video! Interesting to see what you like about the blades. Haven't tried so many blades but my favorites are so far treet back carbon, Shark super stainless and bic seem very nice too but abit sharp er and I got sensitive skin so I try to shave with a less sharp edge to spare the skin irritation.
I got a bar of your preshave soap in a mystery box for Christmas. The scent is amazing!!! It's probably my favorite of all my shaving products. Any thoughts of making a shave soap and aftershave in that scent?
Take a look at Dovo super platinum blades. I’m impressed with them. I think they are the old Merkur super platinum blades that where made in Germany. I seem to prefer blades made in Germany. I can get 5 to 6 shaves from a blade. Another German blade that I have to be really good is the Schick Double Edge platinum blade
Thanks for the very helpful review. What do you think about the “Shaving Revolution” blades? Not sure if you tested them already in a previous video. But you see them on Amazon, seemingly very popular based on the reviews.
I too love the Personna Med Prep. I'm really surprised you didn't like the Bic more than you did. I find it to be quite sharp and smooth. Lots of people love the Treet Carbon Steel in Gillette Adjustables. I tried them in a Fatboy and a Slim and really wasn't impressed. I still have a few so I guess I'll try it in a three piece razor at some point. I'm with you on the Feathers. They are sharp but they are rough. I say they're sharp like a Ginsu knife. To me, Dorco blades share that roughness with a duller edge. You should definitely try the stainless blades from Czech Blades, Tiger or Tatra Superior and Platinum. It is my understanding that Tiger and Tatra are the same blades with different names. Superior have PTFE and the Platinums have platinum, chrome, and PTFE.
I really like the Personna USA blades and the Treet Carbon black beauties. So I agree with your ratings!! 🙂. I have found there is a different feel of the Treet Carbon when used in the Konsul vs Ambassador. Hard to describe what it is.
Most Treet blades are made from carbon steel (beside the platinum) but some have a "stainless" coating on them. I really enjoy them in my Gillette Adjustables, especially the classic. But they are a one or two shaves and done kind of blade. For me the current production Astra superior platinum are great (again). The production run around 2020 was awful. But 2021 and newer are really sharp and smooth blades. Only blade that will last for six great shaves with my thick beard. But they are kind of over looked by us wet shavers because they are so popular. And in the winter time the Wilkinson Sword because they are smoother 😅👍🏼
“Treat yo self!” - Tom Haverford (Parks and Rec) lol nice video Matt! I recently discovered the Treet platinum in the Rex Ambassador on setting 3 gives a buttery smooth shave!
Matt, I shave daily with a Fatboy you restored but, have a number of other Gillette and Shick razors including my first razor a Gillette Ambassador. I first tried a sampler pack and found I had a lot of blades fit only for dry shaving Fidel Castro. That said, why not make up sampler packs that have 5 or 10 individual blades. No remorse that way and you can move on. I’m down to the end of a pack of Gillette Plainums now. They are great for up to 4 shaves. I’m thinking that Med Labs are worth a try. I’m now 71 and trust me, as your face ages (changes) so changes how your shave goes and feels afterwards. The good thing is, I’ve not had an ingrown in years.
Various blades require various razor. This razor is a pretty mild one I use it only with feathers. Besides, your skin is another crucial factor. My blades to go are anything produced by Gillette, Wilkinson Sword, Rapira, Astra.
I tried a Feather blade for the first time ever a few days ago. Wow. It is definitely the sharpest blade. I had the closest shave of my life for sure but my neck needed extra after-shave balm to "calm it down". Going forward, I would only use a Feather on 3 days of growth or more. I think I still prefer Gillette Platinum blades which aren't as sharp but are certainly smoother.
Your list is similar to my experience. Personna Lab Blue is a top choice for me also. However, the Bic blade was rough for me. Gillette Super Thins, Gillette Platinum and Gillette Silver Blue are all fantastic for me. Vintage Gillette Spoiler, Schick Krona Chrome & Schick Platinum Plus are butter, we're talking Lab Blue smooth, and they will marathon well past twenty comfortable shaves per blade. My experiences. Ymmv.
The lab blue you are mentioning is actually just unbranded DE blades personna makes that are normally in the silver dispensers found in the grocery store.
@@RazorEmporium They come in 100 pack with US flag on saying US made. Those are the ones that Blackland includes for every razor they sell. They also sell the 100 pack I'm referring to...
First off I want to say I've been using your preshave bar and it has become my favorite for slickness and comfort. My favorite blades are Gillette Silver Blues and Platinums. Amazingly Derby Extras have been a comfortable shave for me too. I will have to try the Treets and Personna Labs next time I place an order.
Good show, Matt. I suggest you test out a few Indian blades: Gillette 7 o’Clock Blacks, Willy’s, RKs, Topaz, to name a few. They are generally smooth and sharp enough without overdoing it. I always come back to One of them if I’m using an unfamiliar razor or just had a rough shave. Can’t account for it, and no I’m not from there.
Hi ! A lot of people like the Feather blades, but the price of these blades is higher than many others blades. I use the Shark's blades, they are not the most sharpness, but my priority is not to avoid cuts, and i like there sweetness.
Great video. Two blades that I haven't even heard of, and they came out tops in your comparison test. Personna Med Preps and Treet. I do like the Feather blades, and since I have recently started using the Leaf Thorn razor, which I absolutely love, I also like their Leaf blades. I would love to see you compare the Leaf blades to the Feather along with the top two in your comparison test using the Thorn single blade razor. Of course, all you need to do is snap the DE blades in half in order to do the comparison. Is this a possibility for you? Much thanks.
I just started using a shavette a couple of shaves ago, my first experience even using Dorco blades is that I got better results than cartridge razors. However, I am feeling the Dorco blades do not give me the cleanest shave and I might consider getting new blades.
I agree with you that Feather Blades irritate my skin as a near-daily shaver and I don’t like them for me. I find Nacet or Astra Blue for example “sharp enough” and WAY more comfortable to shave every day or even every-other day. I am “convinced” that the Feathers in addition to being very sharp are also wider or deeper than the Gillettes out of St. Petersburg and therefore have more blade exposure and thus are more aggressive and harsh. Blade exposure is known to be even more vital in this respect than blade gap per se. One of the reasons I believe that Rockwell 6S is so beloved is that its blade exposure is so modest.
What's the difference? I'd like to see that info from a vendor not just hearsay as I have the personna catalog and don't see an option for a different sku.
@@RazorEmporium From what other forums say the "Lab Blues" are the comfort coated blades. They usually come in a small box of 100 with white paper wrapping. Personna says they are the exact same blade just the med preps are more sterile. I could be wrong.
Med Prep and Lab Blue blades are the same blade, the only difference is the Med Prep goes through a extra sterilization process and that's why it's branded on the blade "for hospital use"
@@RazorEmporium They are very clearly marked differently on the blades themselves and if you look at the edge profile under magnification or just shave with each blade you will notice a pronounced difference.
I got some super thin Gillette blades that come in a red box from a tiny local shop in Ecuador. Ouch.. it's all I could find. I'm going to have to import something better
Surprised by a couple of the results. I find the Bic quite sharp, whereas the Treet carbons are less so - and quickly lose their edge. Those Treets are good for a maximum of two shaves for me, whereas I get four from most (and up to six from some). I've heard from some that the Dorco 300 (blue) and 301 (red) are the same except for packaging (red in plastic and blue in boxboard) whereas others say the reds are sharper. So your findings are interesting. The ones you need to try, though, are the Dorco Primes. I don't know how they compare to the 301s but they are much sharper than the 300s and one of the sharper blades I've tried. Currently one of my favourites.
I've found that the carbon steel treet blades are one of the few that respond well to palm stropping. I typically get 5 great shaves + 5 decent shaves out of one blade. That's with stropping, I've never pushed it past that because de blades are cheap after all.
Awesome video, was looking forward to part 2...🙂. Thank you! I like the BIC very much...but of course it's also a very subjective matter..😉. My current favourites are Perma-Sharp, BIC (😁), Astra green and blue (smooth and gentle...) and Gillette platinum. Many greetings and best wishes! P.S. Perhaps you could review Shark blades made in Egypt in a possible part 3?
You guys have quite a large catalog of blades! If I had to list a few more blades to try, maybe the Platinum version of the shark, the PAA Platinum Strangelet, and the Derby Platinums! Or perhaps reviewing blades on a per region basis (Russia, China, India, etc.) might be cool
Treet blades? I have two sample packs and i should do this. I already like Dorco ST 300 for the Fat boy, slim, and black handled gillettes... The Feathers i dont use, too sharp. Voskhod, eh. Astra Green about right.
I can really confirm that carbon steel blades are softer than stainless. The first shave with Treet is good, not Astra or Gillette platinum good, but quite good. The second shave feels a bit more tuggy, but still good enough, the third shave though... It's just awful, while other blades last an extra shave before getting tuggy. Maybe that's just my razor that doesn't work well with them, but what i get from them is that they are good for a single use blade, not so much for more than one or two shaves. I also missed some Shark brand blades.
Wow first time ever to be first to comment. I guess there is an advantage to being up in the middle of the night. Not sure there is enough of your face to check 10 razor blades but I'm going to watch the video and find out
I agree that you would usually need to try a razor for as many shaves as you would use your current favorite. It does kind of seem like though you can quickly weed out the truly terrible blades.
The only blades of those I've tried are the Lord ss. They were ok for about two shaves so not a go to for me. My favorite at the moment are King c Gillette

Anyone know if Matt has rated the Personna Med Prep.
got a treet carbon steel in rotation right now- i like them as well- and find the black/dark blue color to be cool. still working thru sampler pack, havent settled on an absolute go to but some are slowly emerging as ones to rebuy and others get relegated to do not buy
Again a great and helpful video. I will try a lot of those blades.
Our Persona Platinum same as Persona Blue? I been using them in my sample pack. Still trying to figure out my right blade
no.
@@RazorEmporium thanks you for replying
@@RazorEmporium which one is better? Blue or Platinum
I was gifted some Shark blades, which are very comfortable and forgiving.
I could see the bling star on your audible "ding" for the Fat Handle Tech. 🤣😂
I got a bar of your preshave soap in a mystery box for Christmas. The scent is amazing!!! It's probably my favorite of all my shaving products. Any thoughts of making a shave soap and aftershave in that scent?
Coming very soon.... You'll like the name 🇺🇸
@@RazorEmporium sweet!
What is the "black bar" you used for pre-shave? Thx!
www.razoremporium.com/razor-emporium-small-batch-pre-shave-soap-4oz/
I've found the courseness of one's beard is directly proportional to how rapidly a blade dulls.
Have them. Wanted to loved them (I'm Czech) but the consistent quality is not there and some are great and others are duds.
@@RazorEmporium I have Tiger and Tatra Platinums and I've gotten nothing but good shaves from them. Blades are weird. Then again, so am I.
Gillette Minora and Gillette Nacet. Along with the Super Iridium they are my favorites, would love to see you test them!
I really like the Personna USA blades and the Treet Carbon black beauties. So I agree with your ratings!! 🙂. I have found there is a different feel of the Treet Carbon when used in the Konsul vs Ambassador. Hard to describe what it is.
personna’s definitely good. best wishes dapper shaves
Got it! Nice 👍
Matt,
I shave daily with a Fatboy you restored but, have a number of other Gillette and Shick razors including my first razor a Gillette Ambassador.
Thanks for sharing your experience with various DE blades.
Ymmv.
I prefer the German Wilkerson blades. Great shave and I can get 5 comfortable shaves.
Indian ones much better so try
Med. Prep comes in the Blue wrapper. The Lab Blues comes in a white wrapper. The ones you showed were Med Prep. Both are made in the US.
I will have to try the Treets and Personna Labs next time I place an order.
wonderful feedback, much appreciated. regards dapper shaves
Can’t account for it, and no I’m not from there.
especially the 7oclocks, love them and wizamet super iridium. regards dapper shaves
Yes. Matt for some reason didn't take to them in a more recent contest. Another case of YMMV.
Loved this!
I'm using Dorco blue and so far.its going good. The soap really helps with gliding and no pressure. And take your time.
Have you ever experienced a blade that was better on the second shave (second use)?
Yes!
I’ll give your recommendations a try
Personna Med Prep & Lab Blues are not the same blade, which did you shave with?!
@@chadthibodeaux2501 I've heard the same. You pay quite a premium for the Med Preps over the Lab Blues though (on some sites at least).
Currently one of my favourites.
don’t like the treet either. regards dapper shaves
Yup
Best DE Blades i've tried:
Perma sharp
Gillette platinums
Wizamet
Feather
Kai
I’m surprised you didn’t like the Bic - it’s extremely sharp and numerous reviews have it only second in sharpness to Feather!
I agree with you. The Bic is incredible, but I like it best from 2nd to 5th use. He's not getting to try it broken in.
Everyone's different. Bic are useless on my skin
You guys have quite a large catalog of blades! If I had to list a few more blades to try, maybe the Platinum version of the shark, the PAA Platinum Strangelet, and the Derby Platinums! Or perhaps reviewing blades on a per region basis (Russia, China, India, etc.) might be cool
check out part 1. We did 25 blades including PAA and derby I think.
Bic is BEST!!!
Also, the Bic is better from 2nd to 5th use.
Treet blades? I have two sample packs and i should do this. I already like Dorco ST 300 for the Fat boy, slim, and black handled gillettes... The Feathers i dont use, too sharp. Voskhod, eh. Astra Green about right.
Treat yourself is from Parks and Rec 😂. My wife and I use that sometimes.
Coming soon we just shot part 3 of this series and it had both shark blades.
Wow first time ever to be first to comment. I guess there is an
advantage to being up in the middle of the night. Not sure there is enough of your face to check 10 razor blades but I'm going to watch the video and find out
Loved the Parks and Rec reference. Treat yo' self
Great video, Matt. Those carbon blades might be worth checking out.
agreed, pure carbon blades perform well. regards dapper shaves
I agree that you would usually need to try a razor for as many shaves as you would use your current favorite. It does kind of seem like though you can quickly weed out the truly terrible blades.
The takeaway from this video it that even though I discounted the Treet carbon steel, I might well need to give it a try.
I’d like to see the Thai Gillette Thin on one of these tests. Your opinion…
Kilroy was here (I tried to watch the last video but the audio seemed to not work after the first few seconds)
Parks and Rec. Treat your self. Great Video.
The only blades of those I've tried are the Lord ss. They were ok for about two shaves so not a go to for me. My favorite at the moment are King c Gillette
Is treat yourself a reference to parks and rec
Yup
Gillette Ninja's (7 O'clock super platinum) my personal favorite
Parks and Rec reference?
I am still waiting for that Henson Aggressive review you promised.
we need them back in stock for that to happen :)
Tried a couple of blade and i found that Astra + (Rex Ambassador) worked for me. I'm no "expert" in any way. Thanks
damn thats the real ymmv , my faves are bic and my leats faves are treet carbon :D , BTW i love some other treet blades just not the carbon steel . also you may wanna try BIC ASTOR , they are sharper than chrome plat.
Old School DE Blade are cheap, and they work.
