The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is a car of legend. With its Fast and Furious legacy its hard to deny its impact on car culture. However don't let that overshadow another JDM Legend - the 1990's Acura NSX. With it's naturally aspirated mid engined V6 power plant, it is balanced and an absolute joy throughout the corners. It gives you enormous confidence and a usable power band. So can a wide body NSX with suspension and tires take on a 560HP R34 GTR in the mountains? Let's go for a drive and find out.

If he'd taken off the ugly wide body kit and that ridiculous wing that was probably creating drag and spent the money on some simple go fast goodies on the engine he would have kept up it called hp/wt ratio.
THIS is what dreams are made of! Considering what 34 GTRs are worth right now, the first gen NSX is a bargain..
The NSX was always my favorite of the 90s JDM Heroes.
it was great but certainly not the best. Keep in mind with stock parts and a tune it was still one of the slowest cars; you would need to add forced induction to even compete with most of the others.
@@potatochobit nsx was never about the power, it outclass supra and gtr on corners, only rx7 that can keep up, it can smoke 1000hp supra with 600hp - 700hp as long as the track has corners

5:22 David, the NSX was far above any vehicle with the amount of HP that it’s making compared to any N/A vehicles… I’d take the NSX over an R34 any day of the week.
Doesn’t hurt that the Nsx was hundreds of lbs lighter :)
Your buddy has some incredible cars, and I love that they are both driven and not babied in a garage. If I was rich I’d have all of the 90s JDM legends in my garage. Until then I’ll settle for my 05 S2000 :)

One of my favorite videos on this channel so far, the sunset chasing, the JDM legends going at it. Random enthusiasts following and cruising with their modded cars. Everything is perfect in that moment.
One thing I like about David, is how you are actually super appreciative and actually soaking in the moment and how fortunate you are to be in the position you are.. Instead of living "fast" and not truely appreciating every moment.
You were just missing a Supra, RX-7 and an EVO at the end there, it would've been JDM muscle overload.

The closest I've been to this was chasing a newer STi up highway 9 in my S2000. Its such a raw and exhilarating feeling, especially knowing that your car doesn't quite match the horsepower of the car in front of you, but when it comes to cornering ability that extra second it gains on the straights just disappears. It becomes especially apparent on uphill drives when you nearly dont need to brake at all and can carry so much momentum through every turn.

NSX was my dream car, then I got it a few years ago snd loving it… so much fun to drive. Real raw driving experience
He's obviously an amazing driver to have so many people trust him with their car... but what's with going over the double lines? Not just in this video either. I guess when you're flying you might need to cut a bit for a smoother turn but he's doing it while cruising
I was thinking the same thing. If you do this on the tail of the dragon in Tennesse you'll get put on blast real quick.
It’s actually very uncommon for me to do so. I’m VERY against it on blind turns, but the car was so wide that I was a tad paranoid of my right side of the car. Obviously with the footage it wasn’t justified, but it isn’t a good habit for sure. 99% of the time it doesn’t happen thankfully.
@@ThatDudeinBlue This is a god awful excuse for endangering lives by leaning heavily into oncoming traffic. If you are driving outside of your means and are afraid the car you are driving then you aren't driving safe, no youtube content is worth this stupidity. If anything it makes me less interested in watching your content, because I know you drive in the GA mountains all the time, and that crew that goes up there weekly also has 0 tolerance for this. If you can't drive the car inside the lines then slow down and drive at your level.

I'm sorry, was it just the GoPro making it look like you were constantly crossing the center line? I know it's wide body but adjust brother! That car deserves to hang in its own lane!
This comes from my experience riding bikes in the twisties, when you are driving or riding "enthusiastically" it is probably better to be half a tyre over the centre line when you are not driving into a blind turn. Reason being it allows for on coming traffic to see you earlier and improves your visibility of on coming traffic and road conditions ahead, plus it allows for more room to adjust your line should you go into a corner too hot. I know most people think it's bad to go over the line but as long as your not going into a blind corner or making a risky overtake you should be fine.
Not a bad explanation, but also being from a background of riding streetbikes through the twisties, I've almost had my head taken off by people crossing the center line. Granted they did it "unsafely" but I think keeping to your own lane is a far better habit to have then habitual crossing the line. The owner of the nsx was driving the gtr if I'm not mistaken and you could see him intentionally keeping to the right side of the lane (which is difficult to do in a right hand drive car) as if to try and keep David on his side of the road... I could be totally wrong about all of this though lol don't listen to me 😅

I live in Connecticut NSXs are super rare here. At least in the Hartford area. So when ever I see one, my jaw drops and my shirt gets soaked with drool lol. It's one of my favorite cars ever

Of the 90s JDM Halo cars the Skyline, Supra, NSX, and 3000GT. My favorite is the 3000GT but the best has to be the NSX. They are so beautiful

@@trevorwatson4969 the 3000gt or GTO (Japan) 300zx (U.S.A. didn't get the skyline), RX-7, NSX, and Supra were the Halo cars for their manufacture. Plus the Eclipse/Laser/Talon were the same car as well!

Honda has absolutely lost its moxy. It’s a shell of what it was in the 90s and early 2000s. They need to get back to this kind of car.
The way you feel driving the NSX is the exact reason why EV's will never catch on with true car people. The EV has the tech and power but fails in the total package.
Just make hybrids so that we don't lose the engine part. The cr-z was the way we needed to go

@@huyra8019 I would allow a hybrid but it has to be seamless , I had to remove the MDS from my charger simply because I could tell when it took half my engine away. For a person like me driving a vehicle is along the same lines as a person that enjoys art or wine or history....it has to be correct or it is all wrong. The engine is only a small part. The way the trans is geared, the little sniggles in the power band, the feeling of the chassis squirming around under load, the immediate feed back from the steering...if they aren't doing the right stuff then the entire dynamic is spoiled.

@Kyle yea im picking up the crank in the morning after being balanced with the new bottom end. And dropping off the heads to have them re-surfaced, Valve seats cut to accept the +1mm valves. Then im re-assembling the heads, Ordering the new mains and rod bearings and oil pump. Then i'll begin putting it all back together. Would have more updates but machine work takes time.

As clean as this car is the only thing I can see is that they painted the hood and bumper and didn’t blend into the fenders at all. Lol but that’s because I spend 8 hours in a paint shop everyday 😂

@@ThatDudeinBlue Put a gopro/audio recorder in the engine bay (put a wind baffle on it if you want to) and mix the audio with the audio from whatever other shots, outside shots, etc :)
Doing that just near the exhausts with a wind baffle thing, too, works pretty well...usually...for more exhaust note. Mix all three for best results haha

I don’t think the r34 most people don’t really overrate them now thinking about but you’ll still lose your mind if you see abs last year I saw a photo a r34 gtr at the Woodward dream cruise and I was so pissed off I didn’t go early because both times I went pretty late
