If Sweet Baby Inc gets confirmed to be involved with this, I will of course revisit this topic. But as of now, nothing is “woke”. I’m out if SBI is involved. I also know about the VA being insane, but her alone can’t change the direction of a game. It may be a possible link to SBI involvement though.
“No woke”? You were probably born yesterday. That’s ok. Just remember this, this game will be trash and it will be because of all the woke agenda they have on this game.

The very first thing i thought when i saw it was a female protag in Hokkaido during that time frame which is the 1600s, what she was wearing i immediately thought this is going to be a KIll Bill inspired revenge story. In fact KIll Bill is inspired by a very famous series in Japan called Female Prisoner Scorpion (look it up it's great) and i can feel this will be heavily influenced by that as well. I really wish all the people complaining about this do some homework as like i mentioned it being in Hokkaido during that time is what is equivalent to what we call the Wild West in the US, it was a time period where there were no laws or government and different factions jostling for power. She is literally a lone WOLF (Clint Eastwood's Man with no Name) seeking revenge hence the western vibes & tone.
perhaps shes a ronin Onna-bugeisha, the female samurai did actually exist despite what idiots like to claim, just not how we want them to look, so a women in this time period dressing as a man and wielding swords is actually a plausible if not realistic thing, in fact women samurai have played pivotal roles in many conflicts over the centuries in japan
@@bigfrankfraser1391Yodogimi aka lady Chacha and lady Nene first come to mind , speaking of which there's a good chance they'll both be part of the game since it takes place in early 1600 during peak Sengoku era.
Sorry, but Wedtern AAA devs + female protagonists on insanely predictable now. Even if there are historical references to this, you can guarantee they did this to push a progressive agenda as opposed to wanting create something interesting. Lift your standards, be more critical and stop coping.
I hope this video ages well. I know a lot of people are betting on pattern recognition and I don't blame them. It was just a trailer so we can all just wait and see.
I mean they knew the fans wanted Jin again, but they went the female protagonist route instead. There's almost no chance this isn't due to wokeness on some level. Could still end up being good though. Wokeness doesn't automatically mean a game is bad, it just makes it more likely.
@aaronhumphrey3514 The only thing confirmed is that the main character is Female. Women don't equal woke dude. Did you not watch the video you're commenting on? It's not like she's some pink haired mohawk toting samurai talking about the modern gender pay gap. It's literally just a female ronin.
People should give this game a chance. If Blue Eye Samurai taught us anything, it’s that you can have a strong female character in Japan, so long as it’s written well.
Female protagonists shouldn't equal woke, but these days they usually do. And given Sony's recent history is doubly worrisome. Consider this: there are two games set in feudal Japan coming out soon, and neither have a Japanese male protagonist character. In an era dominated by male Japanese samurai that is freaking ridiculous.
It’s because all of the game developers now are a bunch of blue haired men hating feminists that hate male characters. We’ll never get a good strong masculine male character anymore. Not allowed in todays woke ass world. Sony also has a history of making the first game of a new IP have a strong well written male character and then changing that character or killing them in the next game.
@@elchippe I think the main point of OP is that female main character is not woke. Also, tbf, Samus Aran had been the main character for more games than you have fingers on my hands. Right now, there is only one game in the Ghost franchise, so it's not set in stone that it would be Jin again much less a guy. The expectations were just misplaced. If the 2nd Metroid game featured a guy, no one would bat an eye. Incidentally, there are games like Nier where the original main character was a guy, but got more popular when the follow up was a girl. Nier Automata is one of the last games you would think of when you utter the word "Woke".
@@redstart9997 There is reason why the entire gaming industry is in the sad state the you see today because gamers (mostly male) they give the finger and these companies took the entire arm, micro transactions, DEI bs, bad games and so on, all of that it was put on gamers like a frog in boiling water. The company making this game they make 7 infamous games with the same male protagonist ALL THE SUDDEN they changed the male protagonist for a female one. So gamers as consumers have the right to ask why they didn't continue with the same protagonist, given that the last one didn't die at the end and was loved? why they hired such controversial person as the main voice actor? If you ask me, it looks like these DEI consultancy companies are deep down in this company and demanded that the next protagonist to be a female girl-boss and yes I say girl boss because they didn't show the weapon that the very few female village defenders would use to defend themselves given the size advantage of most men, a nagitana, she use a katana so that means that game will portray this mary sue as capable on taking men twice her size. Maybe I am wrong, maybe the game is not woke, maybe It will be no girl boss pandering in the story, maybe she will use cunning and strategy to take down males twice her size, maybe no more news will come out how DEI infested this company already is and maybe the wokies in the company will shut up their mouths. Let see what happen.
@@redstart9997 Celeste is absolutely a woke video game, but it is also a good game. Woke =/= Bad. The reason games like Nier Automata and Stellar Blade got away unscathed from this weird “female protag” criticism is because the protagonists of those games are undeniably sexy. Male gamers still feel like they’re being pandered to because those characters were obviously designed with being eyecandy for males in mind. They _don’t_ feel as though they’re being pandered to with Atsu’s design, so they’re in their feelings right now. Doesn’t really matter though. The people actually concerned over the actress or the character’s gender are a minority of a minority. The game will be in GOTY discussions regardless.
Did nobody watch Blue Eye Samurai? That show has a well-written protagonist in a well-written story. It disappoints me to see how people judge a good story from the first look without giving it a chance. Let's see how SP handles Atsu and her story first.
I did watch it until the end. A totally disappointment. Interesting story? Yes, maybe, sure, but infected with the woke agenda. If you look closely the message in that show is this: Racism is good if is coming from minorities, white hetero male is always bad, all women are good, super smart and powerful, and of course, they can take punches without breaking (very realistic) and don’t forget the character with no hands that is committed to becoming a samurai, because you know, reality doesn’t matter… The entire show is pure woke agenda. No idea why people don’t see it. You want a good show with diversity and really good story with no agenda? Watch Arcane instead.
The like/dislike ratio is better than any AC Shadows trailer, the likes are more than any AC Shadows trailer, and the reception overall is more positive in this first trailer than AC Shadows. What I'm getting at is I don't think there are that many people who have an issue with this in comparison, especially from the Japanese audience. I myself have more hope for Sucker Punch specifically because they're good at listening to their audience and understanding exactly what they want but we'll see.
@@DarkStar777 The social media activists are trying real hard to create a controversy about the game being some kind of hardcore propaganda effort and bring it down before it's even released. I hope they'll fail miserably in their attempt.
The game looks like, and was probably inspired by, Kill Bill Hope they can deliver something interesting... I know the gameplay will be good at least as the first one is one of the best western action games
This is what I was saying! Yes, I wish we had one more with Jin and how he abandons (Ghosts) the samurai way and becomes the first foot ninja and creating his ninja clan. Based on his philosophies and how he fought so differently from the “traditional” samurai was pretty much an easter egg on him being the first ninja. I also mentioned Kill Bill and how that movie was amazing due to how it was written. Just because a character is any othe race than white or a female doesn’t mean it’s “woke” and it’s just a video game.
And the funniest part is that this game was in development right after the first ghost released , so this was always gonna happen and be the new story they tell , people need to wait for the gameplay and story trailer so we can really see if it’s good. I’m just hyped to play another SP samurai game
Was it before the DLC as well I haven't played the DLC but people saying they left it off in some sort of way like hinting at a sequel if that's the case then they probably still well do a ghost of Tsushima 2
Not even. Wait for the game to actually release. Cyberpunk 2077 was "good" up until people actually had their hands on the game. I have high hopes though, and i hope they release a masterpiece. I loved the first game.
It’s about majority vs minority agenda or not. A lot of males have fantasies of being a pirate, gunmen, warrior or samurai, so when we got Jin Sakai, it was alot easier to be placed in the characters perspective, especially since it was in a time period where the majority of fighters were male. I don’t hate females taking the lead, I like re3 with Jill, Lara Croft, samus from Metroid, and I’d be pissed if they suddenly changed them to males. Just really wish we could’ve gotten another amazing character like Jin where the majority of players would be guys who’d relate to his manliness, philosophy and stoicism.
Keep in mind, if shadows only had the female as the protagonist I wouldn’t have minded, something about female ninjas just fits, like kunochis. But female ronins or samurai idk… I did like the archer girl in Tsushima tho but idk about the new one, even if she is badass.
I don’t understand the argument that EVERY game is having a female protagonist. There’s Gears of War E Day, Doom the Dark Ages, Wolverine, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a new James Bond game and a new Witcher game coming. This game looks great and I hope it succeeds
It is obviously hyperbole. But a lot more games are having female protagonists now. More controversially, more previously male protagonist games are having female protagonists now.
Because these people claiming that every single male protaginist is being replaced in video games are activists who spin reality in order to push a far right agenda. Quite ironic that they keep repeating that they are fighting activism in video games while they are the most active political movement on social media, literally polluting every single major game release with 'woke agenda' accusations. This is McCarthyism all over again, the 'anti-woke' movement is nothing but a modern witch hunt.
Goddamn man I can’t imagine having to check if the stuff I play is “woke.” “Yeah, game got a 10/10 and was GOTY. But they mentioned minorities once so I can’t play it.” Fucking miserable existence there.
The few people who snuck into society and installed these trigger viewpoints of, "wokeness" are likely laughing on the effect its had on the population. How easily offended society has become. Playing with people like a fiddle. Smh.
Most of these guys are ironic, it's just the crazy overdoses of forced race and gender swaps that pushed people to anger, i think we'll be fine for this game since it's SP, not like shadows where everything is wrong with it
Gonna be honest we are getting to the point of complaining where im starring to hate both sides. It's gotten to the point if you see any non white male character in anything people start complaining just because they are not white and male. I remember back in 2016 the left used to do that with any white male character, both sides are becoming more alike then they know.

Onna-musha (女武者) is a term referring to female warriors in pre-modern Japan, who were members of the bushi (warrior) class. They were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war; many of them fought in battle alongside samurai men.
The question is why is something so rare as female warrior so prevalent in modern media? How many of those samurai women existed? I mean, today when it's a normal thing for a woman to be a soldier, they make up just 16% of US soldiers. The number was significantly smaller when we fought using physical strength. Now tell me, when you play a game, read a book, watch a movie or whatever, why is at least 25% of all warrior characters are women? And the worst part is it's making well written female characters less popular because media is now saturated with female characters that are just described as strong or they're winning by other characters making dumb decisions for no other reason than to make the female character look strong.
its not about Female Lead ITS ABOUT ERIKA ISHII why they hire her at the first place they could Hire Anna Sawai who has more Experience and she is not related to Activist.
Idk I think ppl are just pissed because it seems like now they make every game a female protagonist especially sequels. And Jin had just fully become the ghost at the end of the last game didn’t feel like his story was Over.

It's not about the woman protagonist it's about getting rid of jin sakai in favour of her. Jin had a story set up after tsushima with the second invasion in Japan and the shogun. Imagine this you just finished Spiderman on the ps4, and you're so excited to play the sequel. Instead of continuing Peter's story, they skipped years ahead, and miles is the new protagonist of Spiderman 2. Venom and green goblin already dealt with just skipped right ahead. If they were gonna change protagonists, at least make one more dlc that actually gives jin an actual goodbye. Not kill him off and set the game 300 years from then with a new protagonist that's lazy. I'm sick of PlayStation killing off male protagonists in favour of a female one without an actual conclusion to their story. Look at the witcher games. They made geralts' story end really well with either triss or yen with geralt training ciri. If the new witcher game is about ciri, I'm totally ok with that because geralt had a good ending and an actual send-off. While this game didn't even give jin a send-off with dlc or another game they just killed him off with age and made this chick the protagonist. The ghost meant something because it was jin fighting for his people becoming the ghost. Now, the ghost name means nothing without jin because his story didn't conclude. It's just lazy because jin was marketed all over PlayStation now. It means nothing now because we'll never see him again. Don't be surprised when kratos and Peter are killed off next in favour of someone else.
There was a VERY old manga called Lady Snowblood. It was about a female assassin and she killed men and women alike with both her martial arts skills and her bedroom skills. There's also Red Sonja and if you want more recent ones there's the Valkyrie Profile series and Velvet Crowe, the MC of Tales of Berseria. The MC of the series are traditionally male, yet it worked out. This MC was called a Hunter by the old man, and my mind immediately thinks she must be an Ainu, and the most famous Ainu girl in games is Nakoruru. Can't we think of this as a callback to her? Instead of panicking prematurely?
There is plenty of female warriors through out japanese history. they were usually women from nobility that fought alongside men in some of the battles. Tomoe Gozen is probably the most famous. She was the inspiration for Tomoe in the Ghost of Tsushima although she lived about 100 years earlier than when that game took place.
In the grand scheme just like every other country. It is almost exclusively men doing the country creation, fighting and dying. Throughout history Kings and princes have been killed in battles sometimes. Those Nobile female "warriors" were well protected behind the lines of men. And men have a natural tendency to help a female in distress so they had that going for them too. Let us not overestimate their role in mens domain.

This character looks great. By the way, there where females among the bushi(warriors), called "Onna-musha". For those who claim this is forced...
And those "warriors" were vastly outnumbered by several thousands of men whom were in front of them. As men lead and do the fighting throughout the ages even now in modern times. The game looks good. That said, I think the comments are because people are fed up and have a lack of trust. I think the amount of forced pandering in recent years has made customers extremely defensive. I'm not justifying the mentality, but it's the markets own fault for creating an environment that fosters people to feel they are being backed into a corner.
I find it interesting that they have an issue with her being the voice actor for the protagonist of a Ghost of Yotei but yet people have not said a goddamn thing about her being the voice for the female rook in Dragon Age Veilguard. Oh it's hilarious
My hot take is that if you unironically call something woke, and you trully believe it means it's bad, that's seriously pathetic. And that something like you just said needs to be said demonstrates how rotten that movement has become. If Alien released today it would be called woke. Same for Kill Bill. Don't even get me started on Buffy who would get destroyed for its themes by the wokebro mob. And yet, all those are pillars of what some would call the golden age of entertainment (late 80s-early 2000s).
I agree that woke is an overused, brainless word. But, like all things, the answer lies somewhere in the middle. I cannot speak for alien (have not seen it), but I do not think kill bill fits in the same category as things that are correctly called "woke". Kill bill is a dramatically stylized film, which is essentially about being possessed by the spirit of revenge. Combine that with the fact that she literally had to earn her place as a martial artist training under an unforgiving master, and kill bill completely justifies the bride's character arc and skill set. Also, it doesn't replace the femininity of the bride with masculine traits, which is a huge landmark of actual modern "wokeness". The bride, at the end of the day, is grieving the loss of her (assumed dead) child and to-be husband, which is a universal human experience. That being said, I do agree that when people use that word these days, I generally just shut off. Because it has been heavily associated with the right-wing view of gender politics. I am no fan of gender politics in stories, but rather of good character development and world building, so long as it fits within the context of the character's life and the story's world. But modern American politics are so polarized that having a negative thought about gender politics in stories automatically associates you with the American right-wing, which is so stupid.
You need to learn that people say woke with different meanings. Get over yourself and understand the problem instead of having a brainfart over the usage of a word.
I cant wait until the MGS3 remake comes out and all these zoomers start having heart attacks because Snake, throughout the game, gets consistently beat up by The Boss, who is a woman. 100% agreed! You know where people’s heads are at when they start getting pissed about having a female protagonist in a well beloved video game franchise. Drama over this before anything else is even announced about it just proves that they’re just sexist and can’t stand that lead female characters are making it into the video gaming industry and especially in Triple A games. Representation is important. Of course only doing it for representations points is something I would take issue with too but not before I know more about this game and the process behind making it will I jump to those conclusions. I think Sucker Punch changing up the gameplay and timeline in exploration with a new lead protagonist is a good idea. Jin Sakai has had his time. I wonder if any of this drama would be happening if the protagonist they chose was a different male character instead because I very much doubt all the drama is over them choosing to move on from Jin Sakai’s story. It’s specifically because they’ve replaced him with a female why there’s so much drama on this. So it’s just sexism. I think this drama is pathetic but certainly expected. I’m not even surprised in the slightest about all this.
No... Tomb raider from the very start always had a female protagonist, never a male protag. It's just very odd to go from Ghost of Tsushima playing as Jin who's story was never finished & whos story we thought would be expanded upon and ended in the sequel... Only for a game that takes place 300 years later with a woman that has half her head shaved and is depicted as some "badass" whereas these women were a minority in japan and made up about 3% of fighters. Its woke bs sadly, same with ac shadows

Women don't equal woke, but I will still wait for people I watch to review it before buying because the entertainment industry has lost the benefit of the doubt when it comes to it
Thank you for your take. Its the same stance I have. We really live in some troublung times for entertainment, where because of bad actors and enablers going under the guise and label of other communities, theyve poisoned the well so badly that theres a not insignificant amount of people who do get cautious whenever you see a game with a female lead or other things. Yes, the voice actress as far as ive seen is a nut. BUT i don't think thats enough; we need to wait for this game to come out before we pass judgement. I mean, hey, look on the bright side. At least it wasnt as blatant as Concord

Her enemy is monologuing how cool she is. Quote you think you are the hunter a lot of Romans are after you. Literally telling us how dangerous this girl is instead of showing us.

Just made a similar comment to the thesis of your video on another TH-camr’s video who’s sensationalizing the simple fact that the protagonist is a woman. Agreed. It’s ridiculous to be upset about a video game trailer the same day it comes out. And agreed, if it’s forced and pandering, then it’s “woke”. There’s no way for us to know that yet. Thanks for being a voice of reason.
I am excited. The only thing that makes me sad is that Jin is long dead, he will only be mentioned by legend or MAYBE seen as a spirit… but I don’t wanna see my boy like that 😭
Ainu (Native people of Ezo / Hokkaido) called Mount Yootei with Makkarinipuri or female mountain. And someone mentioned the mountain is believed to have the power to strengthened women's energy. These artists in Sucker Punch are doing their damn research. Unlike the Softies in Ubi. This shit is like a deep folklore of Japan. Picking Hokkaido in Edo period in thee first place is like the last thing normie gaijin would do. Now they even dig into Ainu culture, a tribe of people most overseas people don't even know exists.
What frustrates me the most is that it's not a sequel to the first game because I could easily imagine a dozen of different scenarios for Jin as his story isn't really over. He either spares or kills his uncle, then he remembers the stuff that happened in his cabin and then tells Yuna there's still a lot to do, even if you've already 100% completed the game. How isn't it supposed to be frustrating ?
I believe the argument on the Woke of Yotei is the fact that the makn voice actress for Atsu is this psychopath activist on Twitter that randomly blocks anyone with disagreeing opinions and have very questionable opinions. And I am anti-woke as much as the next guy, but I also agree with Darkstar here. It's okay to have different races and genders. I just want to play a well written character in a well written story. We know nothing else about this game, the only thing we know is that some crazy activist voiced Atsu. I typically in the belief of separating the art from the artist. Even though this Erika person is an unpleasant human being but even unpleasant people can just do the job they are given. We don't even know if she succeeded in getting her woke stuff in, some game developers have hard stances on how they want the game done. Sucker Punch seems to be that type of company but of course I could be wrong. The game looks good to me, I still want to play it. I am unsure SBI is involved or any other DEI stuff is implemented in this game. If there is however, did they succeed in getting their woke agenda into the game? Normally, we would have seen it in the trailer by now, but that wasn't the case. Also let's not forget that Ghost of Tsushima did sprinkle some "woke" into the game. Remember that Lady Masako was a bi or lesbian. The only difference was that the developers didn't shoe horn her sexual orientation in front of us. And wasn't so toxic to tell Jin, a man, to not help her seek vengeance on her female lover. Did they have to make Lady Masako Bi/lesbian? Not really but it was only a side quest and it wasn't annoying like how the othwr DEI shit.
@@justingomez2276 Thank you for answering my question. I see that if you are not the protagonist, you are not called a WOKE, which is moderately interesting! In the case of Yotei, if there is no DEI-like ideology in the game, is there any complaint? The thing is mate in recent years a strong female lead has been pushed and we lost male leads because of it, so it's not hard to understand why there is an outrage. Also there are 2 samurai based games coming out and not 1 of them have a Japanese male protagonist, yet its based in an era dominated by Japanese male men. Why is it always the minority choice, you know very well why a woman was chosen regardless if SBI is involved. You have to realize racism and misogyny will always perminate the gamer space. Woman or black people being merely EXISTING in games is the problem, them being main characters makes it even worse. Let's be real. They didn't complain about tomoe beating our ass, about yuna catching mad bodies.. But now a woman protag is "immersion breaking " and not realistic...while excluding literal history of the opposite 🤦 SP has never missed. But apparently gender makes the stories...
The lead actress' twitter is a red flag. Hopefully I'm wrong in my worries, but it is likely this game started development when DEI requirements were at an all time high, and it's too late to turn back for SP now.
2 things to note from this, firstly, just cause the MC is female doesn't mean it's woke, secondly, while the VA for the character maybe woke they don't have influence on how the game or character should be or how it should go, VAs play the voice of the characters, they don't get to say how the characters should be written, that is all upto the writers. Another thing to note that this is just a simple trailer and nothing else is showed, wait before going hair crazy just cause the MC is female.
Ronins were Samurai without a Daimyo. So how did she become a Ronin if she wasn't a Samurai? Were there female ones? Why isn't she a Geisha ninja assassin instead, working Hit Man style?
She will practice being a samurai for only one week and somehow become stronger and more coordinated than warriors who have trained for over 30 years, effortlessly girl-bossing her way through the entire game.”
There was speculation when they first started discussing the sequel that the story may follow Tomoe. No one, absolutely no one had a problem with that. There were three bad-ass females in the first game, no one cared. People need to drop the drama. Intention is EVERYTHING when it comes to this stuff. I believe Sucker Punch's intention is to make a great game. Period.
Yeah they were warriors not Samurai and this series is known for being a Samurai game with the option of being or fighting like a stereotypical ninja (emphasis on OPTION). Either they are betraying their own established in universe rules or are completely stepping away from the Samurai aspect 2 reasons which are completely valid to be concerned by. And furthermore Yuna was a thief who preferred Ninja like tactics and Lady Masako was a Onna-Bugeisha which is explicitly NOT a Samurai just a woman trained in combat. A Samurai is a social and military class with a COMPLETELY different set of life and responsibilities than being essentially a housewife who knows her way around a sword like Masako was, and this is furthered by the fact that she wasn't at the beach otherwise if she was a true Samurai they would have had her there on some all hands on deck shit but again she was seen as majorly just a housewife who knew how to defend herself not a True Samurai. Similar for Tomoe she was one of the extremely rare occasions of a woman not just learning self defesne but fighting in battles. Though she was never a Samurai not part of the social class or obligated to any of its responsibilities.
I always prefer a male protagonist in my games and I'm sick of all the girlbosses in everything. There were too many girlbosses in the first game too but now that we are one I can only imagine how gay this'll be. They had some gay stuff in the first game with multiple girlboss bossfights and masako was an old woman lesbian, Jin got left behind for a butch.
Masako wasn't a lesbian tho? She literally has a husband and never had a romantic relationship with any women. Edit: Ok well she HAD a husband before he dided.

It's woke ffs! It's old Japan and btw AC shadows also as a female protagonist btw. Hopefully it won't include same sex relationships into this to break immersion. Why it can't be just a dude doing cool samurai ninja stuff.
Yes, they both have female protagonists, but GoY gets points for actually having a Japanese female protagonist. AC shadows has some generic Asian looking female hero. Ubisoft with the low efforts capturing the likeness of their mocap model, or they deliberately went off script to make her look non-Japanese. Sucker Punch actually made an effort to model a Japanese woman's likeness. I'd say they got it spot on in fact. She is distinctly Japanese.
The issue here isn't the presence of a female protagonist. Games such as Tomb Raider, Horizon Zero Dawn, Control, and Hellblade have demonstrated that female characters can be compellingly crafted and successful. What is truly concerning is witnessing established male characters being sidelined or eliminated not due to a legitimate narrative necessity, but rather as a result of an artificially imposed ‘deconstruction’ of traditional gender roles. This frustrates fans who have a deep emotional investment in these characters and who did not request these changes. A prime example of this is The Last of Us Part II: In the first installment, Joel is portrayed as a seasoned survivor, shaped by harsh circumstances and equipped with a clear survival instinct. However, in his brief appearance in the sequel, he is depicted as more naive and vulnerable, both physically and intellectually. This sudden shift in his characterization does not align with his established behavior from the previous game and is perceived by many as an unwarranted weakening of the character. In contrast, Abby is introduced as a strong, determined, and relentless figure, exhibiting greater physical and emotional resilience than Joel. The stark juxtaposition of Joel’s vulnerability against Abby’s strength, coupled with the brutal nature of Joel's death at Abby's hands, creates the impression that his removal was forced, not as part of a natural narrative evolution, but as a device to introduce Abby. The manner in which this transition was executed has contributed to the perception that the storyline prioritized political correctness over narrative integrity. This isn't an isolated issue within The Last of Us. In recent years, we’ve observed the ‘retirement’ of Nathan Drake in Uncharted, the death of Batman, and more. These are all characters that have sustained their franchises, yet they have been cast aside without a robust narrative justification, merely to pave the way for new protagonists in the name of a supposed need for diversity. Let me clarify: the issue is not diversity per se. The concern lies in how it is often enforced in ways that undermine the context of the game and the legacy of its characters. Why replace beloved and established characters instead of creating new ones who can coexist and thrive on their own merits? Changes should unfold naturally and coherently within the game's universe. A prime illustration of this is the character development of Ciri in The Witcher, which expanded her role without disregarding Geralt's significance. To emphasize my point, imagine a Tomb Raider without Lara Croft. Such a scenario would be inconceivable for fans of the franchise. This is precisely what is happening with male characters. They are being discarded or killed off, as if they were mere obstacles to usher in a ‘new phase’ of the game. However, that is not how a strong narrative is constructed. The abrupt replacement of established characters only breeds resentment among players, rather than creating space for new protagonists in a fluid and respectful manner. In my opinion, the treatment of Joel was a misstep, and I hope a similar mistake is not made with Jin Sakai. If you disagree, you may be more focused on defending a political agenda than appreciating a well-crafted narrative. While many of us like to consider ourselves open-minded, it’s crucial to engage in self-reflection: is it possible that the closed-minded or prejudiced individual is not always 'the other guy'? Perhaps your own perspective is more constrained than you realize.
suckerpunch said they're going all in on the ghost ninja skills with stuff like guns, but nah that's alright, people want a dozen games with Jin as the lead, each game dragging out his story, ruining his narrative with each release, and the same map being reused over and over until the franchise dies off. nah, let's not have a fresh setting with fresh combat options, ninja tools, aesthetics etc.

Mount Yotei is a volcanic mountain located on Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island. Hokkaido, historically called Ezo, was sparsely populated by the Ainu people and wasn’t a major center of samurai culture during the time of figures like Tomoe Gozen. Historically, female samurai or Onna-Bugeisha were concentrated in the central and southern regions of Japan, particularly on the main island of Honshu, where the samurai class was most active. There is no historical evidence or records indicating that female samurai were active on Hokkaido or specifically around Mount Yotei during the periods when the samurai class thrived. Hokkaido only became more integrated into Japanese society during the Edo period (1603-1868), after which it began to be settled by Japanese, but this was after the peak of samurai culture. Therefore, it’s unlikely that female samurai were present on Hokkaido, including the Yotei area, during earlier periods.

I hope it does as well. I hope Sucker Punch stays far away from SBI.
The actor involved is a woke lunatic. Keep your expectations low. The first game was painfully mid anyway...I never got the appeal.
@@reaganmemes6510for “anti woke” they certainly get triggered easily by the sight of a female🤣
Its mainly they abandoned the male character they set up to have a women ride on the first games coat tails
these shabbos goys have accepted girlbosses as the new normal. they're too afraid not to consoom.
What's the second one?

Also, tbf, Samus Aran had been the main character for more games than you have fingers on my hands. Right now, there is only one game in the Ghost franchise, so it's not set in stone that it would be Jin again much less a guy. The expectations were just misplaced. If the 2nd Metroid game featured a guy, no one would bat an eye.
Incidentally, there are games like Nier where the original main character was a guy, but got more popular when the follow up was a girl. Nier Automata is one of the last games you would think of when you utter the word "Woke".

There is reason why the entire gaming industry is in the sad state the you see today because gamers (mostly male) they give the finger and these companies took the entire arm, micro transactions, DEI bs, bad games and so on, all of that it was put on gamers like a frog in boiling water.
Anti-woke groups are just as bad as the woke groups. They always have doomsday imaginations of women replacing them 😂

No. We did however watch Afro Samurai, that was gas.
@Xgil2Play I will agree that show was pretty awesome.

I'm sorry but this is just a silly take.
I don’t understand the argument that EVERY game is having a female protagonist. There’s Gears of War E Day, Doom the Dark Ages, Wolverine, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a new James Bond game and a new Witcher game coming.

Onna-musha (女武者) is a term referring to female warriors in pre-modern Japan, who were members of the bushi (warrior) class. They were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war; many of them fought in battle alongside samurai men.
They were the wives or daughters of Samurai. And they only fought to defend their homes

Alien is woke
Mulan is woke
Tomb raider is woke, resident evil is woke.
I cant wait until the MGS3 remake comes out and all these zoomers start having heart attacks because Snake, throughout the game, gets consistently beat up by The Boss, who is a woman.
Seriously, to anyone reading this, is Metal Gear Solid 3 woke? A woman is consistently shown to be a far better fighter than Snake, a grown man, and always gets the upper hand whenever they fight, until the final boss. Is that woke?
So many games from back in the day would be viewed as woke now lol

Woke
I’m so glad I found this video. So sick of grown ass men getting pressed about playing a woman in a fictional video game.

That ignores the fact the voice actress was hired in the first place.
You don't hire someone without at least sharing some beliefs with them.
I've heard arguments like "Uuuugghh female Samurai" before... I don't personally think she's Samurai, she looks more like a Ronin on-the-run to me.
Ronins were Samurai without a Daimyo. So how did she become a Ronin if she wasn't a Samurai? Were there female ones? Why isn't she a Geisha ninja assassin instead, working Hit Man style?
@tomigun5180 Whoops, forgot about that Daimyo part. 😅
But no lie the va does seem insane
suckerpunch said they're going all in on the ghost ninja skills with stuff like guns, but nah that's alright, people want a dozen games with Jin as the lead, each game dragging out his story, ruining his narrative with each release, and the same map being reused over and over until the franchise dies off. nah, let's not have a fresh setting with fresh combat options, ninja tools, aesthetics etc.

A voice actress has almost no control. It’s funny you say I’m “on my high horse” when I call out woke shit being shoved in games all the time. I actually wait for actual proof to come out before jumping the gun and freaking out. Clearly you didn’t even watch the video and just jumped into the comments. I clearly said the second actual proof comes out of it being woke, I’ll be the first to call it out as BS.
@@DarkStar777 the problem is you're being disingenuous dude, you're acting like people are just mad because it's a female lead. But that's not the issue, it's the fact that Sucker Punch has decided to hire an outspoken activist on the project at all, it's a gigantic red flag and I don't see how you can argue that. You can't, which is why you take the easy road for your video and take the opportunity to morally grandstand "Come on guys women doesn't equal woke blah blah" like bro you have to understand how that comes off as pretentious when you know damn well anybody with a brain isn't concerned that it's a female, they're concerned that she's an outspoken woke activist, and it's a canary in the coal mine in the current state of the industry. I did watch your entire video and I am aware you call out and are against wokeness, I still think the premise of this video comes off as pretentious and taking the opportunity to get on a high horse and preach. If you can't address the fact that she's an outspoken activist and that puts people on edge, you're being intellectually dishonest.
@@dallinjc3 Sucker Punch would have made the story script way before hiring voice actress, so her ideology would not be in the game at all. You can't allow one bad apple to ruin the whole batch of apples. If that's the case the whole gaming industry will be in shambles if you had that mentality.
Once Upon a Time people used to play the game by the word of mouth or a review score, now the modern gamers today look at the whole developers under a microscope before buying the game. Is this the real modern way of buying games these days, that is quite sad. If somehow Link was trans would that stop me playing Breath Of The Wild? Hell no, I'm playing that game because it's fun not because of the character gender or someone's ideology.
@@DarkStar777 You did a fine job on the video and I completely 100% agree on it. Don't let anyone deny you that.
@@NeddyShin in a perfect world, I agree with you, the actress's personal beliefs and opinions shouldn't have any bearing on the product Sucker Punch is making, and I really hope that is the case. Trust me I love Ghost of Tsushima and I want this game to be good. However with the state of the industry, with every developer and new franchise bending over backwards to accommodate DEI and modern political ideology messaging in their games, things like this serve as a canary in the coal mine. The people they choose to hire and work with is absolutely a data point worth recognizing and at least considering. In the current climate, the fact that they've chosen to hire activists to work on this game is inarguably a red flag. While I agree it's not a guarantee the product will be woke garbage, it's still completely fair for people to be on edge and concerned that might be happening behind the scenes. We saw the same thing happen with Insomniac and Spider-Man 2. The first game was incredible with pretty much zero woke BS as far as I could tell, but the sequel is absolutely riddled with woke messaging and pandering at every turn. That was a dev that I trusted, who gave every reason to believe they'd deliver a quality product the second time around, but ended up succumbing to DEI and wokeness after all.
A long as thebstory good as the main lead shut up on twitter and doesnt act like everyone grandparents. We are fine.
If the game is good and the characters are written good i will play it.
I still dislike the fact that someone who is so negative insulting and straight up narcisistic can get these big roles in voice acting
To play Devil’s Advocate for a moment: the detractors have every right to be suspicious. They’ve had girl-bosses thrown at them in every piece of media non-stop for 5-10 years. You can’t expect them to endure that, see a woman taking the lead in a traditionally male-led franchise, and then expect them not to jump to conclusions… they have been _right_ for 5-10 years straight, after all.
perhaps shes a ronin Onna-bugeisha, the female samurai did actually exist despite what idiots like to claim, so a women in this time period dressing as a man and wielding swords is actually a plausible if not realistic thing, in fact women samurai have played pivotal roles in many conflicts over the centuries in japan
@@bigfrankfraser1391 granted. I don’t deny any of what you’re asserting. A cursory glance over trusted Japanese historical sources would confirm it.
However, given the current political climate in gaming (which shouldn’t have a political climate), this would be the perfect situation for activist game developers to institute some ideologically motivated changes to the franchise and use Japanese history as a shield for their mean-spirited barbs.
Considering everything that keeps coming out about the lead actress and the game’s community manager, that seems more and more likely by the hour…
The main voice actress identifies as nonbinary.
That doesn’t mean anything to me. David Jaffe has crazy beliefs and didn’t inject them into his games. She’s just a voice actress.
@@DarkStar777 We'll see
@@_Kiji_As long as she acts like a professional and doesn’t try to change the story with her beliefs. Then it’s fine.
It's insane that a women being a protagonist is controversial now. Guys on the internet's brains have completed melted.
It is not, and you know it.
Let's stop being disingenuous. The issue is the voice actress in this case, and perceived bias in other cases. No one is genuinely triggered because a game has a girl in it (HL Alyx wasn't even remotely controversial...).
@@olivercharles2930 You are on a witch hunt. So the voice actress has opinions, and then what? She is not making the whole game you know. Should every single game suspected to have one person with political view that you disagree with in its development team be brought down to flame? Should all video games actors be screened for they political view before allowing them to give their voice to a character?

I don't know what you are yapping about, but I simply don't like her and have a suspicion that the game will suck ass. End of story.
@@olivercharles2930 The only thing I care about is if the voice actress does a good job with the role.
@@bigbuffguy9589 The only thing I care about is the writing not getting bogged down with whatever insufferable politics the devs seem to tolerate enough to hire this lady.
Also if we talk about the "woke" as the right wing grifters define it, the first game was already full of it. It had a shitton of girlboss characters, of which one very important one was also LGBT. Sucker Punch just wrote it so well, that the chuds not only consume it, but they loved it. That is what I find the funniest in this "controversy". 😅
The voice actress seems like a nice person yall bums hate for fun at this point calling her insufferable and shit
I dont think a narcistic sexistic activist seems nice.

To Sucker Punch's defense, they don't claim that their game is historically accurate afaik.
Cool story.
