Hey Boomer! I was actually there in the studio audience for the recording of that sketch (and many others). Hilarious, great atmosphere. He came out and said to us all that he messes up, forgets lines, stumbles over words etc a lot, and that every time he does we all need to shout "WANKERRRRR!!" as loud as we can. And he did, and we did, it was a great night.
There's a whole series of sketches featuring Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke as 'the Slobs' - Wayne and Waynetta - they are brilliant together. As you say, amazing chemistry between them.
Kathy Burke in 'Gimme Gimmie Gimme' is one of the funiest sitcoms EVER!!! She co wrote it. She plays a woman who lives with a gay man and they are always on the looking for men. Hillarious!! 🤣🤣🤣
How have you not tried Gimme gimme gimme yet? Kathy Burke at her filthiest finest. Right up your street Oh ps. The babies they were playing in the skit you watched are Lily Allen and Alfie Allen (cockless one in GOT). Harry Engiekd was their step dad and pretty much raised them
'Nil by Mouth' 1997 movie....Kathy Burke, Ray Winstone, Charlie Creed-Miles...directed by Gary Oldman...Good serious Brit film and Kath is a scene stealer in it...
"Harry Enfield is the most talented person I've ever reacted to".....and he hasn't even begun to discover Paul Whitehouse's repertoire yet....Fast Show anyone?
You've probably been suggested this many times - the actor that plays Perry - Kathy Burke is an f-ing national trasure. Such a huge range of work from comedy to drama. If you have the stomach for it Nil by Mouth, - Gary Oldman directing - is devastating and she really, really can act the ass like a mo-fo. She's a true great. Anyway, some life events do put a spring in your step ;)
Kevin & Perry Go Large is a 2000 British teen coming-of-age sex comedy film based on the Harry Enfield sketch Kevin the Teenager. The film was written by Dave Cummings and Harry Enfield and directed by Ed Bye. Enfield, Kathy Burke and Louisa Rix all return to their roles after previously appearing on Harry Enfield & Chums.
Bloody 'ell Baldrick! I came here to mention that sketch. I'm not sure if the annoying younger brother Kevin was in more sketches but that transformation from an innocent kid into a monstrous teenager was genius.
Nicola Stapleton, who plays Sam in Kevin Becomes A Man, is best known as the character of Mandy Slater from EastEnders, Perhaps best known for her role in EastEnders as Mandy Salter, Nicola Stapleton began her career at an early age appearing in films such as Hansel and Gretel, Courage Mountain with Charlie Sheen and playing Sally in the the 1987 BBC production, Simon and the Witch. Other Notable roles include Janine Nebeski in ITV's Bad Girls and Joe Nardone in Channel 4's Young Person's Guide to Becoming a Rock Star. 🇬🇧😎👍🏼
Kathy Burke, brilliant Comic. Also as a "serious" actor, played Queen Mary l ("Bloody Mary") in the 1998 movie "Elizabeth" with Cate Blanchette as her half sister.
I remember watching the Kevin and Perry story right from the beginning, all the way past the movie and finishing with this sketch. It was like a joke that took a few years to get to the punchline, and I loved it. If there's one thing that makes me grateful to live on this island it's the music and the comedy, both of which I think are still world leading, only just but still world leading. ❤️😁
Search for a sitcom starring Kathy Burke called Gimme Gimme Gimme. Its the last thing she did before going behind the camera to produce and direct. 3 seasons only was done. First episode "Who's that boy"? So funny, wont get awaywith it now. Good luck.
A couple of suggestions you could check out following this. First, there’s the Kevin origin story. In his show, Harry Enfield’s Television Programme, Harry portrayed a younger Keven, called Little Brother, in which Kevin was an annoyingly energetic kid, who constantly irritated his old brother (a character who disappeared in the later Kevin incarnation), with his repeating of catchphrases and bursting into his room when his brother was with a girl. When Harry’s next show started, Harry Enfield & Chums, he decided to transform Kevin into a teenager, with Kevin undergoing a change on his thirteenth birthday. It’s a hilarious scene and well worth checking out to see how this iconic Enfield character was born. My second suggestion is based on your interest in seeing more Kathy Burke. Harry and Kathy did a whole series of sketches featuring a married couple called Wayne & Waynetta Slob. They are a British equivalent of “white trash” and are equal parts disgusting and hilarious. Well worth checking out.
Yes, Wayne & Waynetta were brilliant too. It would be worth watching the whole show, although sketch shows are always hit & miss, I loved the Paul Whitehpuse sketches too, especially Lee & Lance. Tim Nice-But-Dim was classic too.
Yep, missed Perry kicking the tin can , pretending it was a ball with the match of the day commentary, like young lads do , boomer has missed a couple of punchlines in the past
At college I had a buddy who actually was Tim Nice But Dim. When you went to see him at his parent's place in North Berwick there was always a chance you'd bump into their neighbours Lord and Lady Stoddart
Harry Enfield used to impersonate people by voice on the tv show “spitting image” in the 1980’s . A show of latex puppets mocking famous u.k people (and president Reagan) . Satire and comedy show, he was good in those days too.✌️❤️🇬🇧
My favourite Harry Enfield sketches/characters (in no particular order) The Scousers The Old Gits The Self-Righteous Brothers Smashie & Nicey The Double-take Brothers The Slobs Tim Nice but Dim Stan and Pam Herbert (considerably richer than you) Only me!
What I love about this sketch is contrasting it with the very first Kevin skit where on the stroke of midnight he transforms into a moody teenager, like Dr. Jackal becoming Mr. Hyde. Then in this one he changes from a moody, stroppy teenager into a pleasant helpful young man to much bemusement from his parents.😆🤣🤣🤣
I lost my cherry at 14 to a half German half french girl behind a tree in the park on the way home from school. Not a spectacular performance on my part, but my older brother noticed some kind of subtle change in me and just came out and said "So, who did you fuck"? Yep, people notice a difference, although my parents just thought it was a puberty mood swing. My brother always was as subtle as a sledgehammer in the nuts. 😂 ✌️❤️🇬🇧
There's an entire movie about Kevin and Perry called "Kevin and Perry go Large". Its about the two going to Ibiza, its pretty funny, not as funny as Inbetweeners but it has it's moments
The only problem was they made a new series after this and they made Kevin a moody teenager again and made where he was acting grown up a dream his mother was having. She asked Kevin if he was going shopping with her, and he answered by asking her if she was on her period. She ended up going back to bed with a giant bottle of Gin lol 😆😆
The first episode of Kevin and Perry was funny when Kevin first became a teenager at midnight like a werewolf, tween to teen. There was also the old 80s or 90s sketch 'legion of unemployed superheroes' or something who all lived in a small council house and on benefits, trying to combat normal everyday issues with their superpowers, like defrost a chicken for dinner. We can't have shows like this anymore in the small chance it'll offend some snowflake.
You have to look at Harry and Kathy as Wayne and Waynetta Slob - genius. And also as the Brummie millionaires "Seriously richer than YOW" Look up "Harry Enfield and Chums - Considerably richer than you (hotel owner)
Heya KB.. have you seen their movie "Kevin and Perry Go Large"? It's definitely worth a watch if you like them. 😊 Side note.. I grew up watching Harry Enfield and Chums and The Fast Show and it was fantastic. 😂👌🏻
This skit is on point for me. In my mid to late teens my mate shacked up with some bird and I couldn’t see him for a while. Mate dates around the Commodore Amiga were gone as he was loved up. I can relate to Perry in this scenario. Kinda moves away from comedy into dramatic pathos.
Cathy was in a show where she shared a flat with a gay guy who was trying to be an actor and he always missed getting acting jobs. She fancied him and was always trying to get it on with him. It's called Give me,give me, give me. It is very near the knuckle but so funny. I don't think they'd get to make a show like this now sadly.
So how many ppl know kathy burke starred in a film with lee evans? (yes that lee evans) It was called 'The Martins', both give a gteat performance as usual, but the script does let it down a little, still a good watch though.
The beginning of that sketch is K & P getting to the party and P tells K he really likes Sam and he wants to go out with her, but he's too shy to ask her, K goes over to Sam, Sam Hitson K and BOOM that's where this clip comes in. Also as a footnote, the film completely contradicts this sketch.
Kathy burke is a national treasure, unfortunately she gave up acting after she had hughes syndrome she said she lost the desire to act although she sometimes comes back for a small part but not very often check out gimme gimme gimme she is wonderfully funny in it
We were lucky to have quiet alot of Harry, and friends in the 90's. I think he moved around the channels, you should find more. I can't really help with where though

That’s awesome it sounds like a great time!
I also heard him say that when Paul or Kathy mess up to say, don’t worry love we think your marvellous.
reminds me of the Bottom Live sets when they broke character or laughed
You can see Harry doing that in the outtakes for series 1 of Men Behaving Badly, nice to see he kept it up as a tradition between shows!
