Long ago I was a fan of Yann's music. I played myself at the piano all that my technique allowed me to play. Mainly Amelie, Good bye Lenin,... Then I have stopped for long time... Actually too long time. After finding this, just bought both album and partition book. I am back again. Thanks Yann. And thanks also to Brilliant Classics and to Jeroen for this magnificent interpretation.
This is profoundly beautiful piano music. There is both a peacefulness and a poignancy to it. A sense of longing comes through, which touches the heart in deep places.
As in a magical ritual, it takes us to the sacred solitude of the living stone in the middle of an infinite sea. Feeling of being blessed and gratified! A journey for the soul!

Purely awesome! This is exatly what is the island´s life about: touching the atmosphere of sea, natural feeling of freedom where is no modern humanity impact, meditative state of mind in the mid of the water mass. Contemplation and serenity.
So beautiful. Thank you for providing a delicious soundtrack for my gardening, feed ups, mustering and fencing. This life on a mountain I’ve taken on can be challenging at times and your gorgeous music makes it all special, even the tough bits 🙏🏼✨
Jeroen Van Veen, he just must be the hero pianist of the classical minimalist scene. He always brings so much beauty to this music. Thanks to Brilliant Classics too, which has brought this music to my attention: I did not even know, that I would love minimalism so much, before I first heard this genre on this very channel a couple of years ago now! I by the way also has hugely enjoyed your Sakamoto albums published the other day, and has and will return frequently to re-listen. Thanks and God Bless!
He is an interprete... The music is Tiersen's. For the large part, Van Veen imitates, very well but imitates, the way of playing of Tiersen. And when he does not, I don't really like it as the soundtrack Amelie' valse, where he changed the rhythmic and lost it...
This was altogether lovely, and quite unexpected. I seldom enjoy "modern" music, but I liked the description in the notes, so I gave it a chance. Now, I'm so glad I did - wouldn't have wanted to miss such a beautiful album. Brilliant Classics, you bring us so many delights, both of composition and performance, that I shall revive an old expression: an "embarrassment of riches." Which is an oddly contradictory phrase to be evoked by a work described as "Minimalist." I meant it to describe Brilliant Classics' offerings in general. I wonder if there is such a thing as a musical Archetype, in the sense that Carl Jung used "Archetype". I mean that there are patterns of musical phrasing and rhythm which inevitably arise in the mind of a composer, in response to certain universal experiences. In this instance, as I listened to Tiersen's work I was haunted (for lack of a better word) by the memory of Bernard Hermann's score for the film The Ghost and Mrs Muir. Doubtless there are many other movie scores (and concert pieces) which draw from the same well of emotional response to the eternal ebb and flow, surface sparkle and deep mystery, of the sea. And the ambience of human habitations which hug the lonely shore. Or maybe it's just me.
Jeroen displays a unique and exquisite artistry in playing these lyrical pieces of perpetuum mobile. After all, he really cut his chops with one of my favorite recordings of all time: The Complete Solo Piano Works of Simeon ten Holt. Yann Tiersen should be very thankful Jeroen took these pieces on because any other pianist would not be able to perform them with the subtle nuance they require.

Lindo.
