Finrod "Felagund" or "Hewer of Caves" was king of Nargothrond, a kingdom of mostly underground caves networked together with an ornate entrance in a cliffside bank of the River Narog. He kept his kingdom hidden by refusing to build a bridge across the gorge of the river, (which Turin later built in error, in defiance of Elvish warmings, allowing Morgoth's forces to cross) and by stealthy Elvish patrols of the land on either bank of the river. Finrod's sister was Galadriel, and his brothers were Orodreth (who ruled after him in Nargothrond) and Angrod and Aegnor, who settled with Men in the northernmost (of all the Elf Kingdoms of Beleriand, the west of Middle Earth, which sank under the waves in the First Age's final battle with Morgoth, leaving the blue mountains and their dwarf kingdoms, Eregion and the Shire as the new westernmost lands of Middle Earth in the Second and Third ages... except for Numenor and Eressea...as Galadriel said to Treebeard in her last goodbye to Treebeard's statement that he didn't think they would meet again she said "not until the lands that lie under the wave are lifted up, then in the willow meads of Tsasarinin we may meet again, Tasarinin is the joining of the Narog and Sirion rivers, north of the Sirion delta where it flowed into the sea. A last settlement of Elves and Men gathered here, the "gleanings of Gondolin and Doriath", and was the site of the third and final Kinslaying when the sons of Feanor were refused the Silmaril won by Beren and Luthien and held by Earendil and Elwing, and thus their sons Elrond and Elros were taken by Maedros, but he treated them kindly) Elf Kingdom Dorthonion, closest to Angband, Morgoth's fortress. They were all children of Finarfin, Fingolfin's brother and half brother to Feanor. Hithlum, abode of Fingolfin, was equally far north but to the west, further from Angband. Anyway Nargothrond was the southernmost Elf kingdom and was bordered on the east by settlements of men. Finrod built the first "Tower of Guard" (Minas Tirith) on the isle of Sirion in the north of Beleriand, near to Gondolin. In the Dagor Bragollach "battle of sudden flame" where Morgoth loosed Glaurung his wingless dragon (fire drake) and poured lava across Northern Beleriand trapping and dividing the Elves who had pinned him in Angbang for 455 years of peace, Minas Tirith was taken and converted to a dwellingplace for werewolves and vampire spirits by Sauron, Morgoth's second in command. Finrod died in that tower, taken prisoner together with 10 other Elves and Beren. Luthien came to Beren's rescue with Huan and hound of Valinor, but it was too late to save Finrod. Here is how Beren came to be in possession of Finrod's family ring which had been forged in Valinor: His father Barahir was given it, in the Bragollach: from the Silmarillion "There King Finrod Felagund, hastening from the south, was cut off from his people and surrounded with small company in the Fen of Serech; and he would have been slain or taken, but Barahir came up with the bravest of his men and rescued him, and made a wall of spears about him; and they cut their way out of the battle with great loss. Thus Felagund escaped, and returned to his deep fortress of Nargothrond; but he swore an oath of abiding friendship and aid en every need to Barahir and all his kin, and in token of his vow he gave to Barahir his ring." 6500 years later, Aragorn had the ring, and Wormtongue saw it and Saruman recognized his description of it.

I'm sorry forgive me but I've only seen the movies is this from the simarillion or another book I don't know.
Finrod Felagund didn't die fighting Beren.
Plus Aragorn has the Ring of Barahir, which was originally Finrod's ring.
Finrod died fighting for is what he meant probably got cut out
