Have little kids that get into everything that isn’t nailed down. It’s why my watch boxes, cheap ones, are kept in a safe for peace of mind. The joys of having kids.
Agreed with Dave. Would be an instant buy if the display section is lined with soft fabric & the acrylic is actually hinged with the base. Well let us monitor for better design!
Looks very nice and the price is right in line. As a mid-level wood worker this gave me inspiration and ideas for improvements, framed and hinged top and front, leather on the where the watch(es) will sit, for some padding and maybe 1 or 2 others things along the way. We will see how it comes together organically. But this is very nice there are a lot of other options not made nearly as well for the same money. Thanks for another great review. Keep up the good work with the channel, and the church.
Not much of a fan. They wasted the tray and I prefer my watches to be displayed vertically rather than on it's side. It looks unfinished as well, like some guy made it during a woodshop class and as you mentioned, it's not padding, just bare wood. At $89, it is priced fairly.
Like the idea. Wish I only had 4 to handle. Don't need the see through top; would prefer totally enclosed. I actually like the post idea but would like a soft leather landing. Same goes for the tray; the wood looks nice but would want at least some of it with a lining.
I was looking for a protective case for my solar / ecodrive watches. To protect them from dust or whatever, and keep the light reaching them. It won't be that one, the orientation of the dial is not ideal, hinges for the top could improve it, and maybe a softer material than wood where the watch seats....
Side ways is pretty cool, everyone does vertical. Would like a padding so the watches don’t rest on a hard wood. Maybe an area tinted to raise the glass, so you don’t smudge the glass. Pretty good for the price though.
Great watch review,,, they have a lot of watch boxes in Tokyo. But I found this design on Amazon japan and like it because I don’t have to mess with pillow in the cases
Interesting, but a ‘miss’ for me: no hinge to the lid is an inconvenience, the handle on the drawer isn’t horizontal, there should be a soft base to rest the watches on (leather/velvet). Like another commenter said, I prefer a vertical presentation of the watches, so even with some improvements, it wouldn’t appeal…Good work, as ever, with the review! Love the Hamilton!
Wow! Brother, you and I are at the same mile marker in our journey. The most expensive watches I own all retail between $700 and $1000, but I waited to get ALL three when discounts were available, and paid between $500 and $650 for them. Mine are: Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic, Tissot Silicium and Bulova Sinatra Fly me to the Moon. I know how to admire and appreciate an Omega and a Tudor...but I have not yet made a decision to use my credit cards for my hobby, so I do not yet own them. My grail is a Rolex Air King...but that is WAY down this road from where I am currently travelling.
Hi Dave, another great review. I was more interested in WHAT you placed in the case than the case itself. I appreciate that you not only embrace affordable watches, but ones with leather straps as well. I really like the looks of the Orient after you swapped the strap out.
I don’t think I have much use for this at the moment, but as a point of improvement, as a few others have said, it would be good if the top could be locked somehow.
It's really nice, but I always prefer a watch box. The positioning of the watches and the fact you could store more is a bit more important to me. But hey, nothing better than this for having a few watches on display.
The wood finishing looks really fancy! I get that it's not practical to have it stored upright. It's nice that your watches here are all similar in size so it's nice to see a symmetrical display. For me though, I prefer to keep my watches out of sight and locked so I wouldn't get a watch box display.
Thanks for the review. Interesting product, but would definitely appreciate some padding or at least a nice layer of leather for the watches to rest on. Nice dimensions though, i agree maybe a back side in wood going all the way up and some hinge just for an L shape plexy. Will be in my list of purchasing for sure.
I think this looks really cool but I wouldn't put my four favourite watches there. I'd put four watches that I rarely wear but are sentimental. Maybe a vintage heirloom piece etc. Having to get fingerprints on glass would motivate me to rarely open it. Still looks great though. 👍
When on wrist your watch spends most of the time in the vertical position. It’s not going to effect it negatively. But a watch will run differently depending on the position it’s in. It’s why you take readings in multiple positions on a timegrapher.
Didn't see any feet/pads on the base of the unit as you were handling it. That's a no-go for me. Would prefer vertical presentation but on the horizontal doesn't bother me as much as many here.
Great video. Thanks Dave. If we actually paid pounds at the exchange rate for dollars I would consider it but it seems that whatever an item is in US dollars we would pay in GBP. Now almost 90 Great British Pounds makes it less attractive, bearing in mind the plexiglass and any possible issues with that. I can see a game possibility here though with maybe Jody and Shane's choices of what to put in it to a certain value, and whose display looks the best. 👍🙏🙇
Wasn't the Bulova Lunar Pilot your most expensive watch? It didn't even made the top 5. I like the box though it doesn't seem practical. As someone mentioned, padding would be nice, and overall I believe it fits best to display your "safe queen" pieces (ones you do not use often or would not risk into the outside world)
Agree that padding would have been a good idea plus perhaps a way to display the watches face forward and not on the side .... and what's that you say? Plexiglass? ... not sapphire crystal or even hardlex??? 😉 You mentioned seeing glue? Is that how the wood components are attached together or is it possibly wood veneer?
Even if you spend the whole $80 price on the glass I doubt you could get that in sapphire (reported to cost $30 for a much smaller iPhone glass), and hardlex is trademarked by Seiko. Agree with your other points.
@@jkhcu .. was a joke because every watch that comes out people ask is it hardlex, sapphire, mineral crystal or plexiglass? ... and they usually want sapphire or hardlex.
Hi Dave, nice but my solution was that I picked up a used corner curio cabinet where I have a couple of H.D. models that were gifted to me and plan to cover a couple the glass shelves with felt and have my watches there in a spare bedroom. To be truthful, I feel that the price on your display case is a little high. Of course I have chosen to as yourself keep the eye simple and not go with luxury priced watches.....
The giant Lego box ? Its a "no" for all the reasons previous posters have mentioned. My watch cases are on a shelf at waist height and the watches are displayed vertically. I can look down, select a watch and get on with my day. Thanks for the review tho.... :)
It's kinda reminiscent of either a Lego block or a screw terminal. Or possibly one of those nixie tube clock, with the lamps missing. Neither observation is meant as a criticism - the box simply reminds me very strongly of other things. It has some class. I'd be worried that over time the top wooden surface might get scuffed by my watches, rather than the other way around. But it looks pretty good. Solar watches should charge fine inside. Rating: 3/5. Not bad.
Definitely a different look to watch display/storage. Once that plexiglass gets scratched, it will ruin the overall look, so that would be a worry for me. Anyway, I like my $40 watch boxes that display/store 10 watches and look great, so this one, although different, is not for me. Thanks for the review though!!
Lol if a burglar is inside your home, he'd take your watches regardless of what watch box you have them in. And he'd take many more things than four watches.
