Something that has saved me is I video tape packaging the product without cutting anything out or stopping and starting the camera (so eBay can't say I removed the item or changed it for another item before closing the box. Not that they would, but a customer might). To be extra safe you can make a mark on your package and then video tape mailing it. Saved me! Another scam to be aware of is the address being mailed to. So, when I went shopping, I actually had two or three things in a row go to a shipping warehouse on the east coast of Florida. The policemen's hands were tied because there is no written law that allows them to enter that shipping warehouse and intercept the package or investigate and prosecute this kind of scam. They said someone needs to have that law changed because they are ready and willing to pounce. lol...my word.
Thank you for the Ebay tips as being a seller. i havent sold anything on Ebay, but learning from all these videos how bad scammers are on Ebay, plus reading the comments below. Not sure if I will ever sell on Ebay. take care.
I actually sold a lot on ebay before. Never got scammed before but the most annoying thing was dealing with usps. I've had multiple items that got lost or the tracking whole say that its at a warehouse and then never update again. The worst is when tracking shows it was delivered but the buyer claims it wasn't and asks you to help them file a claim. It takes usps over an hour to pick up everytime you call them. The customer service is really bad.
I use to sell on eBay. I once tried to help my grandpa sell some of his homemade knives with deer skin sheaths. I sold one and the buyer contacted me saying he didn't get the sheath blah blah. To not get a case opened against me i sent him mine. My grandpa passed away and i never got another one of his deer skin sheaths which i really treasured. This time it was the seller getting scammed.
Empty box is easy to be beatable... All you have to do is document the weight of the item you're shipping, and the weight of the empty box. It'll show ebay that you did indeed send an item to them weighing a certain weight.
Posted my first item and I got an offer within an hour. I accepted it. It’s a large order $60 so I asked if they can confirm that they approve this order and they said, “I just have some questions can you text me?” Hell no! I told them that they need to confirm the order, and confirm the address along with sending payment by tomorrow or I’m canceling the order. I collect Pokémon cards and these are common scams with selling and trading cards.
For a lot of items, there aren’t identifying marks to take pictures of and the buyer can say “not as described” and send it back, regardless of your return policy. eBay doesn’t care
Sold a $200 item. Seller sliced open the package, removed the item, sent photo to eBay and eBay gave them their money back. Buyer said it was delivered this way. I called the post office in the seller's town and they said their carrier would NEVER deliver an open package. I sent that to eBay and ... nothing. "Buyer" aka scammer, got the legit items AND their money back. I had photos of the items, envelope, testimony from Post Office. Didn't matter. To eBay, buyer is ALWAYS right. Even when they're a scammer. Bummer as I have sold over $30,000 worth of stuff over the years. Looking for alternatives now.
what about a seller I bought a product from next day he deletes the item from eBay I report it to eBay an eBay to me the selling was unable to give a tracking number so they will refund me within 48 hours now I see a new email stating the item is being shipped does that mean eBay resovle my issue
There’s a buyer on daily basis who keeps sending me offers on my product and asking me to contact them via what’s app. They live in the US but have a UK number. The items that I’m selling are expensive. And at this point I don’t know what to do with this buyer because he/she keeps changing their name and address and sending me offers with the same message. I’m quite new to selling and don’t want to fall a victim.
I sell clothing and accessories. The top scam I get is customer opening a return for some flaw that I know the item didn't have. They then say they really want to keep it and will fix it themselves if I'll give a partial refund. I fell for that one time. Never again. I now have, on every one of my listings, my policy of no partial refunds...no exceptions. Either a full refund or nothing.
I am an eBay buyer only and I can tell you there are plenty of seller scammers out there also. I've been scammed on several occasions but thankfully eBay has saved the day.
I have only dealt with 1 seller that didn’t ship the item in 18 years of buying on ebay. They kept me hanging on for 5 months telling me it was on its way. Had to get my money back through PayPal.
The problem I'm having is with scammers bidding and I accept it just to find out that they're not going to pay for the item. They want me to send messages from my phone or email, its so annoying.
Got this request on my first “sell” - so disappointing. I just sent back a polite eBay message saying that I won’t communicate outside of eBay. Watching these videos about buyers scamming sellers has me rethinking trying to sell. I might just send my clothing to Thred-Up and call it a day. eBay needs to setup a middle man - send sold items to us to be verified and forwarded to the buyer - some kind of verification system.
Just came across this video. Scam number 4 happened to me. When I upgraded my GPU to a 3080 I sold my old 1080ti. Took very detailed pictures down to the circuit board. Seller claimed item didn't work. When I got it back, I started verifying against the pictures. The backplate was the same with the correct serial number. The circuit board was a completely different revision of the board with different numbers on it. The buyer and basically disassembled the GPU and switched backplates since the serial number was on the plate and it was easily swappable. Sent all the evidence to ebay with the differences on the board highlighted in the photos and they still denied my claim and gave him the money back. Only answer they would give me was tracking showed he returned the item. Could find no way to actually contact and talk to a human. There is virtually no protection for sellers. Haven't used the site since.
What good does sending pictures of the item being returned damaged to eBay?... You can't prove that you DIDN'T send a broken one in the first place... Right?
Ebay protects the buyers and not the seller. I sold a iPhone 12 Pro Max. The buyer said they received the item with no phone in the box and then eBay said I owed them. A total ripoff. I will never sell with them again.
Ebay has millions of sellers. It does not need more. It does need more customers. They will back the customer 99% of the time. Electronics is one of the most risky of all categories. Taking pictures and documenting items usually won't help.
I know that this is a year old but after the PayPal and payment changes a entire new wave of scammers have infested EBay. Some things like paying for signature confirmation and video taping all the items you send and receive them from now on is a must period! Another is making sure you got insurance on it and make sure that you video tape the items working and stating the items are in good shape but they are used and as is! This cover’s you comes and going. Okay I know it’s a hassle and it’s just not worth selling anything cheap anymore but I’m telling you scammers are worsening day by day and just when I think I have seen it all someone comes along with something else! Welcome to EBay in 2022

your advice is SUPER good! Number 5 saved me from a scam Edit: oh shoot eBay said that the buyer lives in Miami even though they said that they want it shipped to Ohio
The fact you have to dispute something you already shipped. Is a total L. What I do is I don’t send out anything until the money is cleared in my bank account for even wasting my time shipping, I’m a seller. I don’t play that sellers protection bullshit. That shit is a total scam.
Interesting to know, but honestly as a buyer I don't really take the rating as proof. If its all top rating reviews then I automatically think they've created false perception. There are bizarre scenarios receiving no item, seller doesn't respond and having to file a item not recieved. However, I gave up on amazon and eBay. I go direct now. Yes, either buyer, or seller don't open any dialogue its a bit like cold selling and some are worse than others
Another awesome video Rodas, thank you! I'm a new seller and it's going nicely so far. However, ran into my first "scam" the other day but don't see the perp's motive: they bid extra high on my item, and "won" used 2 different accounts to make it look like 2 ppl bidding (I ASSUME, but then they used same first part of username in both accounts and both accounts just created that day). No payment of course, which I knew there wouldn't be. What I DID expect was a msg requesting I contact them outside of eBay but that didn't come either. So, what's their endgame??
I’m not sure, but you can limit who bids on your items. For example, you can exclude all new accounts or accounts with 0 feedback. That should help for future listing
Just wondering has anyone come a cross this The buyer messages you about the item The item is buy it now for £60 or best offer buyer tells you he put in an offer for £60 but there never was just asking cause this has happened to me twice.
Here's one you didn't talk about I been scammed 3 times on same item I didn't lose anything but it's the same thing They tell me to text them at their number so they can pay quicker for the "item" Item is a big red flag.. I get so mad when I accept the bid and have to wait only to get the same response Plus when I see the buyers history it's all zeros What sucks is it's After The Fact.. there should be a better Vetting Process . Like before you accept the bid you can find out if they are legit or not. I hate having to constantly relist it's as if you been targeted
I got scammed like a month ago. I sold this water pump for ice machine was like 300 some bucks. anyways the buyer got the item and then a few days submitted a return saying it was defected not operating well. so he sent item back and then I refunded him in full amount. I relisted the item at a lower price and a buyer bought it. come to find it was the same guy under a different account. I figured it out because it was the same shipping address. I fought it on eBay and eBay credited me because I showed proof of address and messages.
I received a message from a Seller today saying he accidentally sent me the wrong item. For me to NOT open it and write "Return to Sender" on the package. I'm new to ebay and don't want to be scammed. What should I do?
@@Leah.says.the.things I didn't do the "return to sender" I opened it and the item was completely destroyed (I think he knew that already) so I filed a complaint through ebay and got refunded.

Is this a scam or what do I pass this up? I’m thinking this is to good to be true
h darden I’ve always believed in if it seems too good to be true, it’s usually a scam. That being said it could be someone that really wants the shoes and they are willing to pay extra for quicker shipping. If I were you I would just wait to see what other offers I get
So basically any of the scams you may fall for, as long as you follow everything ( get signature delivery for over $750 etc...) You just file a police report and they will refund no matter what? Or is it only for the empty box scam? Thanks.
Yup, police report is only for the empty. But as long as you have tracking number and showing delivery eBay will side with you. These scams also don’t happen that often. I have been scammed maybe twice from thousands of sales

I got to this video because someone just purchased my listing buy it now for almost $3k with 0 feedback. I have near 400 feedback at 100%. Address is verified though and is in the US. Was worried but if they claim I sent them the wrong item and try to scam me, hopefully you're right that I can get a police report and get the money back from eBay. Guess I'll send the item out instead of trying to cancel it and resell to someone else.
Lot of people go onto ebay looking for a specific item they can't find elsewhere. They are new, not scammers. If I sold something for 3K, I'd damn sure make sure I was sending it to someone with heavy feedback and a verified address. Wouldn't be able to sleep until I received positive feedback for the item.
The paypal email scam doesn't make sense. Why would you even entertain shipping an item that hasn't been purchased yet... Only way that can happen if you make a deal outside of ebay which means you allowed them to scam you for doing so.
I'm new at buying on eBay, but I bought a item a week ago and when I check the tracking it shows that it hasn't even shipped yet, that just a printing label was made. My money had already been taken out. What do I do?
USPS sometimes does not scan a shipped item - it just arrives without being tracked. Happened to me several times this holiday season - which was a terrible time to ship USPS.
Great video man! I’m not sure if I got scammed but a few years ago I bought a refurbished iPhone which at part was my fault. I need a phone at the time and it was a gap phone. It lasted me about 3-4 months and then had internal issues. The seller was horrible and EBay had no authority because it was out of there policy period. I’m at fault for going that route but luckily it was only like $150. Was def a learning experience. Great video.
When returning something like a phone, a phone has so many different markings making it very distinguishable & unique from any other phone. They all have their very own unique numbers! Duh!
There is an xbox one s for 99 dollars which says for parts or not working. But when i read the review they said it's working and it even came with a controller which i didn't see in the seller describes. Should i buy it
Rodas Yonass they tried. They requested return, then sent back to a different address, not me. So it showed delivered, but whatever they sent , I never got. It was a mess! But after two months I got my money back from ebay, thanks to a letter I got from the post office
There is another bigger scam you didn’t talk about. eBay will settle the case in your favor but they’ll open a case with PayPal with item not as described and send you back rocks. PayPal will have the tracking number from the buyer that says package returned. All you got is rocks but PayPal will refund since he shipped something.
Hi I got a question this guy live in the same state as me and the phone I want is the S20FE its unlocked he giving wireless buds and a spigen case all shown in picture he said it been used for 2 weeks but switch back to pixel you have to bid for it so if I win do you think in gonna get scammed buy the way this person been a member since 2000 and has 100 positive feedback do you guys think it's a scam.

That sounds like a nightmare, I never had to deal with that at least.
That’s terrible. Sorry to hear about that Travis, eBay system doesn’t protect sellers enough.
That's terrible!
Empty box is easy to be beatable... All you have to do is document the weight of the item you're shipping, and the weight of the empty box. It'll show ebay that you did indeed send an item to them weighing a certain weight.
Ya I doubt this will work....they could just say they sent it back in a different box...there's no need to ship back original box
@@kurtdahle If they sent back nothing that would be a huge red flag though to the weight.
Those are crazy scams. Thanks for sharing. I hope this stuff doesn't happen too often.
Luckily they don't happen too often.
@Celerus Oakshield How did you handle it ?
Most of my customers are honest people. There have been a few unreasonable, but great info here. Thanks for sharing.
Same here. Only had a couple of unreasonable customers.
what about a seller I bought a product from next day he deletes the item from eBay I report it to eBay an eBay to me the selling was unable to give a tracking number so they will refund me within 48 hours now I see a new email stating the item is being shipped does that mean eBay resovle my issue
Best thing to do is just ignore. They go after new sellers.
Rodas Yonass thank you for the advice.
I would block him on eBay so that he can't bid or buy your items.
That’s a good way to weed out the scammers
I am an eBay buyer only and I can tell you there are plenty of seller scammers out there also. I've been scammed on several occasions but thankfully eBay has saved the day.
I have only dealt with 1 seller that didn’t ship the item in 18 years of buying on ebay. They kept me hanging on for 5 months telling me it was on its way. Had to get my money back through PayPal.
Thanks for the detailed video. please post a video on safely dropshipping from aliexpress or any other wholesale sellers to eBay.
People should document the weight of the package sent! So impossible for the buyer to say they received an empty box!
Thanks for the great tips on how to prevent being scammed
The problem I'm having is with scammers bidding and I accept it just to find out that they're not going to pay for the item. They want me to send messages from my phone or email, its so annoying.
Got this request on my first “sell” - so disappointing. I just sent back a polite eBay message saying that I won’t communicate outside of eBay. Watching these videos about buyers scamming sellers has me rethinking trying to sell. I might just send my clothing to Thred-Up and call it a day. eBay needs to setup a middle man - send sold items to us to be verified and forwarded to the buyer - some kind of verification system.
If you get scammed out of a $1100 item do you call the police where the scammer live or do you call your local police to file a report?
Local
Yes, you’re right.
Welcome to EBay in 2022
Hey so a Ebay fraudster just gave me an offer, On my listing i didnt allow international shipping but guy is from germany, is new and comments on his account have sellers stating he has done fraud what can i do??Help???
You can rejected the offer
Scam #4 - sadly you're wrong.
Ebay claim they're outside of the item transition process so they just refund the buyer, even if you upload pictures. I've literally just been done out of £1000 this way.
Any help?
Yeah is the item weight different? If so use the item weight as proof.
@@StrxngeThings my dude, if video evidence, photo. Evidence, the guys terrible feedback score and a reference number for the UKs fraud office case against the buyer isnt gping to help then im afraid the weight difference wont do squat. An INDA opened against you with ebay means you literally have no power. At all.
Yep you are correct they sent a cpuple here in uk to a police station with a form the police refused to deal with it as it was a civil matter , they had took pics and even had a message from buyer saying he was happy with the item and he was taking it to his mechanic to fit , even left them feedback, then rerurned item damaged, clearly done during fitting , and still refunded buyer , e bay are scammers to
you have there address you can always go around and have a little chat with them.
😂
your advice is SUPER good! Number 5 saved me from a scam
Edit: oh shoot eBay said that the buyer lives in Miami even though they said that they want it shipped to Ohio
Nothing worse than being scammed. Glad you didn’t fall for it
Well maybe they just ain't to send it to a friend. That's why I do, my friend gave me their credit card and j got a friend a phone eith it and yeah
The fact you have to dispute something you already shipped. Is a total L.
What I do is I don’t send out anything until the money is cleared in my bank account for even wasting my time shipping, I’m a seller. I don’t play that sellers protection bullshit. That shit is a total scam.
Damn... this is really tuff bro. I don't think i have the stomach to get scammed that way
Interesting to know, but honestly as a buyer I don't really take the rating as proof.
@@RodasYonass Thanks Rodas! Will do for the more expensive items so thank you!
@@RodasYonass Hey Rodas, I went to Buyer Mgmnt to do this and don't see this as one of the options. Am I checking in the right place? TIA
Do they ship the order to the buyer's door or at their nearest Post Office?
Thank you 👍 but I just don't have the stomach to go through this on eBay. Have to find another way to sell my sports memorabilia.
Just wondering has anyone come a cross this
The buyer messages you about the item
The item is buy it now for £60 or best offer
buyer tells you he put in an offer for £60 but there never was
just asking cause this has happened to me twice.
Very cool info my friend
i really like this
Thank you!
Here's one you didn't talk about
I been scammed 3 times on same item I didn't lose anything but it's the same thing
They tell me to text them at their number so they can pay quicker for the "item"
Item is a big red flag.. I get so mad when I accept the bid and have to wait only to get the same response
Plus when I see the buyers history it's all zeros
What sucks is it's After The Fact.. there should be a better Vetting Process .
I’m glad you were able to catch it the second time.
Great video! Please do the follow-up video that you were talking about in this video.
Very valuable information! Thank you, Rodas!
I received a message from a Seller today saying he accidentally sent me the wrong item. For me to NOT open it and write "Return to Sender" on the package. I'm new to ebay and don't want to be scammed. What should I do?
What happened with your situation - update?
@@Leah.says.the.things I didn't do the "return to sender" I opened it and the item was completely destroyed (I think he knew that already) so I filed a complaint through ebay and got refunded.
Have a question just posted Jordan 3 fragments on eBay I’m new to eBay never sold one thing and I listed them for 620$ free shipping got an offer the next day message from someone asking if I’ll do 770 with ups overnight shipping? Is this a scam or what do I pass this up? I’m thinking this is to good to be true
h darden I’ve always believed in if it seems too good to be true, it’s usually a scam. That being said it could be someone that really wants the shoes and they are willing to pay extra for quicker shipping. If I were you I would just wait to see what other offers I get
Wtf 620$ for shoes what a ripoff
Always check the person's feedback. Do they have a lot of it left for them? What kind of feedback have they left
for others?
So basically any of the scams you may fall for, as long as you follow everything ( get signature delivery for over $750 etc...) You just file a police report and they will refund no matter what? Or is it only for the empty box scam? Thanks.
Yup, police report is only for the empty. But as long as you have tracking number and showing delivery eBay will side with you. These scams also don’t happen that often. I have been scammed maybe twice from thousands of sales
How do you get around #2 if the shipping companies have not been requiring signatures during these times even when signature is required? I have received a couple of items over the months that were supposed to be signature required but the shipping company just left it at my door.
Yea I think they still consider it “singed” even if they leave it because of COVID
@@RodasYonass i have some bigger ticket items I was considering ebaying in the near future but now in these COVID19 times am a even a little more weary. Maybe a video idea would be ebay tips and scams to look out for in the current COVID19 climate. Thanks again
I’ve had a lot of buyers with 0 feedback and no issues. Hope it all works out
@Celerus Oakshield I sold over 50k worth of stuff to people most had feedback but some didn't. Had not one problem so far
On ebay you get different types of conditions though ?
thanks for this info. really appreciate it. very important coz there's always scammers around.
I'm new at buying on eBay, but I bought a item a week ago and when I check the tracking it shows that it hasn't even shipped yet, that just a printing label was made. My money had already been taken out. What do I do?
You are well protected as a buyer. You can either wait for item to ship or ask for refund
@@RodasYonass thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. I went ahead and waited, it was late but I finally received it today.
USPS sometimes does not scan a shipped item - it just arrives without being tracked. Happened to me several times
this holiday season - which was a terrible time to ship USPS.
Milone Money Mindset thanks Anthony. That seller is horrible
Should i buy it
The reviews is probably not for that Xbox. If you buy it, the buyer can refuse return since they listed “not working for parts”
@@RodasYonass it's also said return within 30 day's. In the review i also saw the picture of the xbox
If it has 30 day return then you can order and return if you don’t like it
@@RodasYonass thanks
Very intererting.
Thank you for the information!
Thanks for the advice, this is very helpful.
Have you ever been scammed? What happened?
Rodas Yonass they tried. They requested return, then sent back to a different address, not me. So it showed delivered, but whatever they sent , I never got. It was a mess! But after two months I got my money back from ebay, thanks to a letter I got from the post office
Patricia Yunuen Castro glad to hear you got your money back
Thanks for vid. Ebay should force purchase of sig conf when you use them to purchase shipping label. Too bad it's not auto enforced.
They don't do that because it costs extra to get signature, but that is a good idea
There is another bigger scam you didn’t talk about. eBay will settle the case in your favor but they’ll open a case with PayPal with item not as described and send you back rocks. PayPal will have the tracking number from the buyer that says package returned. All you got is rocks but PayPal will refund since he shipped something.
chargeback through their bank too, guarentee to loose out
I sent Ebay proof the buyer was lying and they still refunded him and he kept the item!
Had the same problem
Just happened to me on a $500 item
Hi I got a question this guy live in the same state as me and the phone I want is the S20FE its unlocked he giving wireless buds and a spigen case all shown in picture he said it been used for 2 weeks but switch back to pixel you have to bid for it so if I win do you think in gonna get scammed buy the way this person been a member since 2000 and has 100 positive feedback do you guys think it's a scam.
Probably not a scam. Buyers have a lot of protection in place when buying on ebay. You are more likely to get scammed as a seller instead of buyer
@@RodasYonass oh yeah I bought off ebay before never got scammed
Thanks for the advice. Thumbs up.
Best insurance to not being scammed is to sell only to buyers with very good feedback records.
That’s true, but I’ve been scammed by people with good feedback as well
Just got scam number 2, this is unbelievable. Help
So what happens when they deliver an item and it gets stolen? Who’s responsible for that?
I think it’s the sellers responsibility still
Do buyers get scammed???
asinx yes all of the time. But they have the protection in place. Buyers just have to start a case with eBay to win with eBay
Rodas Yonass oh, Ok thanks. 🙏
Thank you for making this video!!!
Someone placed an offer on my item, they joined eBay 9/27/2020 and have no purchase or selling history, thus no feedback. Seems sketchy!
I have that happen a lot and most of the time it’s not a scam
@@RodasYonass yea I dont want to be overly skeptical!
Glad I'm learning now for future reference 😌
Should I sell to someone with 0 feedback ?
Yes, I have a lot of buyers with 0 feedback
Hey man great info! Are you sure the police report guarantees us sellers a reimbursement?
It doesn’t guarantee it but it is the best way to get eBay to consider a refund to seller
I got a good 2 out of 5 of these done to me, luckily I didn’t go through with them because it seemed kind of suspicious.
Dude if someone wants to return an item do they return it to your address where you live
They return to where ever you send from. If you are mailing from your home address that’s where the return will come
ok you like my comment 😅 hugs and kisses bro ✌
Is it a scam when they make an offer and it has a message saying to text them bc they have questions about the item ?
100% scam
I'm really sad wish I run into a bit ahead of time my girl got scammed for 500$
Thanks.
What if you video yourself boxing the item and handing it to the post office?
That isn’t a bad idea. Any proof helps
Thanks for the info bro
Great I just sold something for 780 and shipped without signature...
Delivery confirmation is usually good enough.
Thank you!😊 I’m just beginning and this excellent information to know!👏
Happy to hear that. Let me know if you have any questions
Rodas Yonass Thank you!😊
there is no protection for sellers built into Ebay. I was a powerseller for 15 years. Ebay will bleed you dry in fees and NEVER take the sellers side.
Same here, made 20k in a month of sales, Ebay's hidden monthly fees have estimated for the total sales $1,700, i just thought to myself, ehhh, whatever... didn't know Ebay is a Law, trying to tax everyone & involve uncle sam
Great information!
he reading a cue card lol
i’m selling shoes for 160$ and someone offered 400$ so i checked his page and he had 5 reviews but there all from the same month. am i getting scammed?
Probably a scam
