How to Properly Clean RAM on your Desktop PC

- Is your PC not booting up? Freezing Randomly? Does it live in a dusty and humid environment? Your RAM might be filthy, and could be causing internal connection problems, causing your PC to malfunction. This guide shows you how to clean your RAM properly in the hope of bringing back your PC from the dead.
Please note - if you use a cheap eraser to clean your RAM, it'll leave behind a rubbery film which could cause issues again down the track. It's recommended that you use a microfibre cloth with a dab of isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the pins afterwards to avoid a film being left behind.

@@samsmith182 yeah. An eraser and some alchol and brush. Believe it or not my gaming PC refused to boot... I thought the other Fury X stick was dead... all it needed was some cleaning and behold it booted up! even overclocked it again lol

I have never dared open my computer before. My monitor stopped sensing the computer and one tech website suggested to clean your ram sticks. When I searched for how to do that, your video came up. I cleaned them and put them back but not firmly enough and the computer beeped a code that meant that . I pushed them in more firmly, set everything back up and it worked!!!!!!!

Lifesaving video! Just bought a pc and monitor from Carousell and it got me shook when it wouldn’t turn on. Went to some shop to get an eraser, cleaned it, and it worked! Still unbelievable how some dirt on your ram can cause such a big problem.

I used some contact cleaner with a soft brush on the RAM gold contacts as well. Same with graphics card. Everything got the same treatment. Changed the 10+ yr old motherboard battery while I had it open. Thanks!!

Thanks, recently got a dell optiplex 790, had quit working the other day trying keyboards and said no signal from computer, and had pulled out the cards and replaced them, but tonight cleaned pins with a cloth and put in a new battery! Working again. Tried a new dell keyboard and monitor, working again! Texas

I was so frustrated I was about to get a sledge hammer and trash this pc. Tried this and voila! I did notice while using the eraser on the ram that the change was visible. I though a simple dry wipedown would do the trick but it took a goddman eraser to bring my pc back to life. Appreciate it.

Thank you good sir. After installing new cooler one of my slot and stick was not working. I did the eraser thing and gently brushed the slot area. Now it's working.

I was replacing a cpu cooler and took out my 4 sticks of 8GB RAM to make more room. Put everything back together and then my computer would turn on start to boot up then turn off and start the whole problem again. I eventually narrowed it down to one stick of RAM causing the problem, because when I removed it, the computer would boot up. So it appeared one stick went bad ....... or was it? As I looked at the contacts i noticed a smudge on one of the contacts. I must have accidentally touched one of the contacts when I was removing them from the PC. So small, almost invisible. I cleaned it, reinserted the RAM, and BAM! It worked and the PC booted up fine. Something so simple.

after pressing the power button I immediately hear 24 fast beeps then 8 fast beeps then 1 long beep, then 4 or 5 short beeps. I then turn my windows 10 desktop Pc off. turn off power at the back, press the power button to release any excess charge and try to turn it on again. I try this process 4 or 5 times to get the computer to boot up. please can you help. thanks

i would spray the brush bristles to keep them wet before getting to the slot; you know, on planet earth, things get pulled down fast,in this case,that liquid/spray

When i lift or shaked my desktop black screen happens i dont know if my brush really clean my ram slots but i removed the ram and clean it with eraser and put it back on it works but sometimes its happening again.
