A35/45 without the aero pack is like a house without the roof
The aero pack makes it look too boy racerish
Golf R does well enough without some infantile rear fin. These cars are too costly for a lot of young drivers to buy and insure, so maybe people like myself with money at 51 would like this car because it has the power and handling, but also looks classy and mature. Go buy a crappy ricer or something if you want childish cars.
@@oddities-whatnot couldn't agree more George. At 42 I bought this car 3 weeks ago because I feel comfortable with spending that amount of money on a car, but wouldn't want it with the wing. The wing itself is a flimsy add on and many reviewers have complained it feels cheap. I have been a BMW fan boy for a long time since I bought a 3 series at the time my wife had the c class and they were like chalk and cheese. I didn't think merc could deliver the handling the a35 does and the steering feel. Great job AMG.

Rob Holland marvellous. Can you tell me what the ride quality is like please ? I like this car, it does everything I need but dont want something too firm a ride, just wondered what its like round town on bad roads and if its settled on motorways
Simon George hi Simon, I have the car without the variable ride pack. On motorways it rides lovely, it’s reasonably firm but you won’t notice particularly unless on very bad roads. Additionally on motorway runs I’ve had nearly 50mpg out of it, I couldn’t recommend it enough
@@robholland290 im considering getting an a35, how is it going with it, any problems/faults or what youve heard about? What servicing does it need? I do 100miles motorway each weekday so 50mpg would be decent.
@@zeus5298 unbelievable car, couldn’t recommend it enough, you’ll struggle for 50 MPG, I’ve done 40,000 miles in mine now and cruising on the motorways I get between 38-44 MPG sat at 75. Servicing is not over the top. My brother liked mine so much he bought one for himself.
@@robholland290 thank for reply mate, I've always wanted a golf r, but i test drove the audi s3 and a35, fell in love with the a35, the interior is another level compared to the golf and audi, although the mk8 has caught up a bit. Always had golfs, but fancy a change. I could live with mpg in the high 30's. Tempted to wait and save for the a45 s, but it is just a bit too much really.
Bought an A35 today. Get it first week of march. Excited.

I get mines on the 29th buzzing, I got the executive pack on mines, I feel like the aero pack makes it to tacky imo you don’t see the s3 or golf r with anything like that

Nice vid bro. Shame he didnt upgrade the alloys, the boggo ones are a bit naff. Defo a good shout getting the upgraded screens though (Premium Pack), the standard ones look so shit

My old cla had a night pack.... they do it over here in the uk....
They do offer the night pack but only on the higher premium version. Standard, Executive and possibly Premium (not premium plus) doesn't come with the night pack or aero package apparently. Perhaps they didn't want the likes of the A180 looking like an AMG version anymore

I think I'd be gutted to see an A35 drive past with the aero pack, wing, spoilers and more pronounced diffuser if I'd specc'd mine in plain Jane. The upgraded 19s are a must too. Archie Hamilton's is the prefect spec for me, even in the bright yellow. Great car for those wanting performance but not wanting to stand out or race every tool in a corsa vxr though (like I do in my current cla45 shooting brake 😂).
What's your honest, unbiased opinion of the CLA45? I'm thinking about getting that as my next car, and as I'm a family man, I'm looking at the shooting break version. I'd imagine the performance is more than enough, however what's the fuel economy like (sensible and spirited driving)?
@@michaeljohn1019 Best car I've ever owned, once I got used to the gearbox. I've had mine updated at a local Mercedes garage so it's better but not Golf R/Audi sharp on occasions but plenty responsive enough.
On the economy side of things, I've not been shocked at yet and is better somehow than the Renaultsport Megane Cup I had previously. I get circa 43mpg on motorways and average 34mpg generally. Servicing costs are covered by a service plan for £900 all in which was haggled for.
The drive is a laugh which is the best way to describe it. It's a normal cruiser one minute then switch mode and it's an obnoxious beast from any rev. It's a little more stiffer sprung than the usual but it's more compliant than the coupe as my dealer assured me. The performance sports exhaust is a must and adds to the experience although the standard exhaust in sportier modes is louder than a Golf R or Audi S3. The bangs on upshifts and pops on overrun keep me smiling and doesn't get old.
Take one out for a spirited drive if you can from a garage, they're great pieces of kit. Pricey though, and sometimes can't help feel a Golf R would've been the sweet spot vs bang for buck. Then again, I wouldn't want to swap for one either.
@craig mitchell Can you read? I said it's a great car for people wanting the performance car attributes without wanting to stand out, but for me I'd go Aero Pack. That simple when you read it through really.
@craig mitchell You're not comprehending what I've written pal. I'm personally all for standing out in Aero Packs with obnoxious spoilers and the lot. If I'd gone A45 route, I'd have the massive spoiler on mine. I have the CLA45 Shooting Brake which has a toned down Aero Pack that's the only reason I don't have the gaudiness now. Once again, I said the plain Jane option is great for anyone else that would like the appeal of A35 performance, with the relative anonymity of looking like a regular A220d. Why can't you understand that?
@craig mitchell Also, I'm 28 with a missus and little girl who comes with all the luggage you could imagine so need the estate for added practically, otherwise the A45 with tacky spoiler would be right up my alley. You're basically arguing the same point I've made repeatedly, the stripped back styling of a standard A35 is great for anyone that isn't keen on turning heads every time they drive through a car park. For someone like me who isn't fussed by the disapprovers, the loud kit is a bang on.

Good review but I always say this about the A35, it needs the rear spoiler and the upgraded alloys to stand out. The exhaust note is also really poor compared to other 4cyl hatches
Its the filter for emissions in the exhaust!

In Great Britain, they are proposing to put noise sensors on speed cameras to fine those with loud cars (above 70db) - which is preposterous!
It def needs the body kit with spoiler. Otherwise it looks too basic
Looks so dull without the body kit and spoiler. Possibly the most plain looking hot hatch at the moment (until the BMW M135 is released)
I disagree, the spoiler looks casual and that added body kit doesn't suit a car of this size. Stealthy, is the key word my friend. Car enthusiasts will sport the details that make it an AMG.
@@justanotherguy972 AMG should be loud and shouty, not subtle! It was the same with the previous gen A45, looked rubbish until the aero kit went on.
