rings and flare on the hooves doesn't necessarily mean she's foundered, it means there was a metabolic change, usually food or stress (coming on or off pasture, switching grains or hay), in fact they're called event lines because it could be a number of things. Xrays are the only way to know if there has been rotation of the coffin bone (true founder) or a pretty extreme duck bill foot (this one just looked like flaring and the recent trim was addressing that. Laminitis is just inflammation of the laminae which doesn't always mean rotation.
I don't know how you go to all of these auctions Shae!! that skinny sad horse that sold for $200 was heart breaking

@Leonie Engels , same here! Very close to tears. If I was there, I'd) have made sure I got him to bring him here (I've got 80 acres with nothing on it except my home ) I'd have him very checked, blood work, shots, and hooves done up. Then I'd have let him just be a pasture pet, so he could heal and enjoy life eating plenty of grocery!!!!! I'd also buy a second , and maybe even a third since they are herd animals. They'd all get the same treatment as the first one. It is the 3, I'd get a draft so I could ride, but none would be mistreat. The first one was in such desperate condition and needed a lot of TLC and he'd get it! I'd have everything built new, corral, stables(heated of course. Why am I saying all this, smh! They'd have the best life ever and not need half the stuff I'd get them! Horses are my passion! I'd always had a horse since the age of 5. I truly miss having some!

    I could literally NEVER go to something like this. Seeing horses in soo bad conditions, having idk how many of them being stuck in a tiny tiny space makes me so incredibly sad and angry at the same time? That bidding ring must be SO stressful for the horses, especially if riders sit on them who just jank at their mouths, poking them with spurs etc. I just sit here and want to cry because I'd want to give all of these horses a amazing home and a life where they are all equally loved ;__;
Thank you and your husband for showing us the good and bad things you saw there and thank you so so much for giving your horses the amazing life they deserve ♥

Needless to say, I've spent way more on some stuff that I intended to. But you can't your money with you when you're gone, lol! When it comes to animals, I didn't know what I ended up paying till the end. It was the inanimated objects that got me! But again it is a special language of its own lol!

A good horse is never a bad color. Right? I love listening to you talk about horses. You are doing a good service for the horses. Please remind people, maybe at the end of every video like Bob Barker used to do, about how bad it is to let your horses breed indiscriminately. I don’t know if a lot of people think about the fact that so many horses are being abused and sold to the “meat man” because of it. I know some people don’t think about what really happens to that cute little baby when he doesn’t turn out like you thought. I’m not trying to be ugly, far from it. Like you I’m just thinking about the welfare of the horses. Keep up the great work!

Hi Shae and Kyle , There was some beautiful horses at the auction for sure but seeing the penned horses was extremely saddening . I don’t understand how people can be so cruel or ignorant to let such noble creatures suffer . They have no compassion and just auction them off knowing they will probably be purchased to go to slaughter. Thank goodness for horse rescue groups like the Equine Humane society who go to these auctions and buy the horses who desperately need help to be rehabilitated or given the horses final act of kindness . Thank you to you and Kyle too who love and respect your horses and ponies and offer them the safety and compassion that they truly deserve. ❤ Kylie from Australia 🇦🇺

Love your channel. . These auction videos are such fun to watch. Rocky Mountain horse a treat to see! (Very ancient history coming up). I grew up with horses. My mom grew up with my grandfather‘s American saddlebreds (he bred and showed and the ranch he had near Del Mar California was very prominent in the 1940s).
Our first family horse that I can remember was a bay Saddlebred mare related to my grandfather’s line named Donna. She was a little bit on the spicy side for us kids to ride so, thinking to rectify the situation, mom and dad got us a little black pony who we named Wendy. She turned out to be very naughty. I’ve never been the best rider in the world, although I wanted to. My sister was born with a natural ability, but unfortunately, I have terrible allergies, including horses. I used to have to rinse them off before I rode them. Anyhow, Wendy turned out to be a brat and bucked me off twice.😂. Then Grandpa got us donkeys: WORSE😮
Then my mom, who was the horse person of my parents, got a wonderful chestnut gaited mare named Jubilee so that my dad or myself could go trail riding with her. My sister wasn’t interested at all in this, so I got to borrow her anytime that dad didn’t go on a ride. Jubilee was Tennessee Walker, Morgan and Arabian. Wonderful, wonderful mare and bulletproof.
Once, there was a trail ride to which my dad went to so a friend of my mother’s, loaned me a little 14 hand, Arabian stallion, the most gentle horse next to Jubilee that I have ever ridden. Once in a blue moon, stallions can be great. He left all the mares alone on the ride. oOf course, no mares in heat were allowed (even if there were no stallions present) in any of the trail rides that our horse club held because some geldings can be rowdy even after being cut.
I grew up in the late 50s and early 60s.(born in 1954).. the last time I rode a horse was in the late 1970s when my parents got a paint gelding, 32 years old, and very much fun to ride even at that age. Then life took me in another direction. Plus, my mom never got any more horses that I was able to ride. She liked the spicier Arabians and she showed and bred for 30+ years.
I used to go with her to horse shows, and to visit breeders when she was looking at stallions. I developed an eye for conformation (mom actually told me once or twice that I was a natural in that department; Bummer I couldn’t ride much) A lot of memories there.

Glad you were able to get out to the auction and you’re right about quarantine at your place right now. Once the baby is born and you’re able to sell what you want, the new horse/ pony is going to present itself to you just like they all have. It’s hard being patient and selective but you got this and it won’t be long till you’ll have the foal and Belle to train, start riding Mushu, and your work with Buzz. All in good time and Happy Easter 🐣🐇 🌻💕

Thanks for taking us along as always to the auctions. Again it’s always so hard to see the neglected horses that are dumped just to make a buck 😢 I do find it frustrating that people are allowed to stand in the arena especially such a small one. People in the stands who may want to bid can’t see. That puts added stress on the horses, especially the ones being ridden in and are getting yanked, being pulled on their mouths to get them to turn 😠 There were some lovely looking ones there and pony row killed me 😂 They are so fluffy and adorable ❤ Have a great day and Happy Easter 🐣 to both you and Kyle 💐💞💞💞

Another well stocked auction. Thank you for sharing your day with us. I did have one question. Do you know why the auctioneers allow all those people to line the inside of the auction pen? There's barely enough room for the exhibitor to maneuver their animal about. It just struck me as negligent and dangerous IMHO.

Hi Shae and K.!! All the fun of the auction with none of the power or responsibility!! Just what I need today, if I deserve anything beyond the days other blessings and wonderfulness!
I just missed a bunch of these candidates and hike scribbling my screed but I just felt compelled to wade in and say that the first two-3 look pretty ideal for you- that palomino is pretty solid looking very good cannon bones and quarters, could carry a heavier rider a good ways I expect, and the buckskin looks like a pretty well put together deal especially for lessons and trail riding.
Ouch that starvling grey is a crime scene, for sure.
    🖐😉 from NotMardon in Canada.

There was a filly at a barn i boarded at whilst stationed in California years ago who did that exact tongue thing at feeding time that you thought might be neurological. The vet said that it was a common type of self-soothing habit, much like thumb sucking or nail biting might be for us. i've since seen it several times in different horses over the years. It never affected Peanut's (the Paint filly at my barn) training or riding in any way.

It is my dream to ride one, but sadly in my country its really hard to find places that u can ride, mostly of the places i went that had horses were always farm horses, that isnt friendly enough to a stranger to ride. But i learned so much from you, and i hope some day i can have some contact with horses.
Its so sad to see so many horses in horrible condition, and i am grateful that u show us that auctions arent always beautiful. I took care of a really old mare one time i went in a trip in my nona's ( Grandma) farm. She was a palomino who were a horse for therapy with kids. I'm sure this will read as a silly suggestion, but I wonder if extensions would work on horses with docked tails. 🤔 They work for people. Having said that, I realize that horses have a myriad of places where extensions could get snagged. Still, extensions would certainly help them combat flies.

I was sitting here trying to remember something I saw on another horse TH-cam channel.maybe some kind of product that attach to the tail and had strings that hung down? I don't know maybe I'm imagining it.

You have NO worries about anyone thinking your mean Shae (regarding the puppies) Anyone who knows you or has seen any of your videos knows you have a heart of gold, and loving, kind, and caring ❤️ Horses prices seemed to be really good at this auction. There were a lot of really nice looking animals. Of course there were a few that were heartbreaking 🥺. But you are so right, you really have to be careful what you bring home due to Belle being preggers ☺️There were some really beautiful paints. And paints to me are like Appaloosas to you 😉 there my faves ❤️. Thanks for taking us along. Blessings to you and Kyle always 🙌 Jennifer

One day it will all come together, you'll have quarantine space, Belle's foal will be on the ground - and you will find exactly the right horse for you program. I am impressed by your self control, I'm sure I would have come home with one of the QH's you looked at!

Thank you Shae. The beauty of horses is sometimes almost inconceivable. Ending with kettle corn seems healing 😉 oh and I sat here writing a story in my head thatthe horse you were so interested in never went through the ring for one reason or another, and you were able to leave your contact information for the owner. They'll be calling you in a few weeks and soon enough you will have the lovely horse. But I know there are other horses out there.

I think there are people who were made for different things. Some people have pure rescues with a lot of focus on medical attention, and some are like you who take in those horses that you can train while healing from potential earlier trauma and then find them a great home when they're ready. All of these people still belong to the same group who are out there helping these horses. You are so great :)

And those ponies and minis. 🥰 Yeah, I'd be in big trouble if I went to an auction. Lol

I'm curious, with regards to the crested neck- is that a feature that should only be, typically, a feature on stallions? Spanish ones in particular? I just personally really love that look aesthetically, so I'm really glad to know it can be a bad sign on a horse, because I could see myself getting one some day because of the look without knowing it could be a bad thing.
