    Kerry, great and important info for pruning citrus. So many don't know that the citrus fruiting stock is actually grafted and what grows below the graft will never amount to anything and be detrimental to the tree's growth. Thanks for sharing with us! I have 3 FWG citrus trees on their way to Illinois this Monday!!! Can't wait! Al W.

    Super helpful thank you! I got a dwarf eureka lemon tree and I noticed a thorny branch on it and saw it was growing from below the graft. I was hoping I could leave it because I thought it was kind of cool but apparently they take over your tree/cause undesirable fruit to grow so I’lol be snipping it off. Thank you!

    I have a bunch of 9 month old Improved Meyer Lemon trees from cuttings, so obviously there are no graft lines. A few branches have recently sprouted from the base near the soil. I assume these are suckers and need to go? Thanks

    Ok so I have a 7 foot tall grapefruit tree - so the "water sprouts" or "mutated sports" must have grown after our heavy monsoon rains earlier this year. These growths have tiny thorns also, right? So to confirm, the best thing to do is to cut these back? And it seems you said that you cut the MS back so that it could branch out.
    What I am not liking is the grapefruit tree with fruit-bearing branches (no thorns) and then section with mutated sports. Would this change the fruit-bearing nature of the tree if left unchecked over a period of time?

    Hi Kerry, thank you for the videos. Can you talk about how to grow juicy limes? My lime tree is finally fruiting, but the limes are not juicy:(. thank you,

    • @merrylemon5273
      @merrylemon5273  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Blanca,
      For quickest response please email me directly at kerry@fourwindsgrowers.com Limes or any citrus left on the tree past the harvest period will become dry and inedible since the tree will suck the nutrients and moisture back out of unpicked fruit - to recycle them back to the tree. Make sure you pick during the fall when they are at their peak, then they should be juicy and flavorful. Also be sure to pick off all fruit at the end of each season so you make space for new flowers and fruits - and eliminate any confusion about what is ripe and what is past it's prime. Hope this helps. Kerry

    One of my lemon trees had one of these sprout and I thought oh wow its doing so well but 2- 3 weeks later it had leaf loss and I wondered why ,its now dying 2 weeks after this before I knew what it was, I just cut it off today after I found out but it may be too late. I still have a green stalk but no leaves at all, I cut off the top of the stalk too cause it was turning brown at the tip, hope it gets healthy now and gets new leaves. does anyone know if its too late !!

    I have a Satsuma tree that almost died when I was out of town because no one watered it. It has grown now but the new growth has thorns ans triangular shaped new growth. It is all 3 feed above the tree. Can you tell me why the plant has changed so much and I no longer get fruit. Also, I have a healthy tangerine tree that is sprouting triangular shaped limbs.

    I have a miniature orange tree that has thorns on the whole plant, It was grown from a seed , the orange that I took it from was real sour, from what I have seen on these post is that if they have thorns then they are root stock, I guess I am confused as to why my whole plant has thorns on it. can you explain?

    If I grow citrus from seed will it produce fruit? Will it have a substandard root stock?

    • @shastamckinsey9153
      @shastamckinsey9153 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jhbuild if I remember correctly, growing from seed means you can’t guarantee the quality of the fruit because it couldve been pollinated from any other fruit tree of the same type

    • @jonmccormick8683
      @jonmccormick8683 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the citrus seen here are hybrids and grafted. A real orange tree will have the spikes -these trees are illegal in citrus growing areas since they do not want them cross-pollenating with other commercial citrus. Also seed citrus will only produce oranges every few years. Buy one good orange tree and "air graft" branches. -Also branches can just be cut with root hormone added. =Really no reason to grow citrus from seed when you only need 1 good plant.

  • @chanvindersingh8573
    @chanvindersingh8573 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    But the Suckers..... can be used for plantations understand. Airlayering is the best method for making the Root Stocks & then graft them from a good variety oranges, limes, lemons or whatever you want the all lime family. OK.... *
