  • I DIDNT HAVE ALOT OF TIME FOR THIS BUT I NEEDED TO SEE IT FOR MYSELF.. NEAT IDEA. I NEVER LIKE CALLING FOR A FUEL PUMP OR ANY COMPONENT TIL I KNOW THE WHOLE CIRCUIT WORKS. I GOT AS MUCH FOOTAGE AS I COULD.

    Wow...seems like the pressure is on in more than the fuel pump. Nice helpful fellow employee. I hope he was only kidding. Another great video anyway. I like your thought process. Keep em coming when you can.

    I really hate those in the tank gas pumps. But I do like that fuel injection when it works.
    I guess it's a necessary evil. Sure appreciate your video showin how to sort that system out. I still remember the days when you could get a pump for around15 bucks and change it out in 20 min. and be done. Tell Carl that he is famous now... LOL. I notice that he did all you asked so that was pretty cool.

    The % does adjust with load! If I recall correctly anyway.
    This was a great video. Love your channel.
    The only bad fuel pump I've ever replaced in one of these Focuses ended up being broken in half. The springs and "struts" (?) on the pump assembly had snapped. I don't know how the hell it happened but I pulled the pump assembly out of the tank in 2 pieces, it was just the wires and hoses holding it together.
    The driver modules on the trucks though...see them lots more haha

    Thanks for all the videos they are great ,one question how much time takes you to diagnose a problem like this using all this tools

    • @jamesdanner7850
      @jamesdanner7850  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this one probably 15 minutes to check the fuel pressure... or lack thereof . . and pull the rear seat to check power and ground. but there are others that you could take an hour or more easy if you are not familiar with the system. and that's not including countless hours thinking about it if you have other things you need to do as well.

    i think the fuel rail pressure sensor gives out the signal and either the pcm or fuel pump module interprets that and sends out a pwm signal to the fuel pump... if i am not mistaken. yes clark is a moaner, sure glad i don't have to deal with that.

    Why all the noise on the waveform for the new pump?

    • @jamesdanner7850
      @jamesdanner7850  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      honestly not sure. was using old vantage. too large of a scale and new pump with no fuel /lubrication?. I was just happy it ran and no flat or missing humps. thanks

      @jamesdanner7850  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea we know about the commutator humps and rpm, it was the straight spikes we don't usually see

      Coming from someone used to working only on an OBD-I Ford/Mazda anything other than 12v is odd for me. Learning about fuel pump modules and all the new doohickeys is neat but seems like it's just more points of failure in an already complicated circuit. OBD-II is neat but seems like a real pain in the ass sometimes especially evap with all the DPFE voodoo. That's why I watch videos like yours. I get to see stuff that otherwise I wouldn't because I'm not in the field. We get to live and learn vicariously through you. Thanks for making videos. Sometimes I watch just to see new and creative ways to moan from the master clark.

      @jamesdanner7850  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      funny. you are right though. a lot of times the failure is in a part that is specifically there to confirm regular system operation.. that still works

    I just had a great idea for snap on to make our scanners able to crank engine while testing... so you don't have to ask GRUMPY co- workers.

    Good information. However. A bit overkill. You just do not need all those scanners to determine a bad fuel pump.

    Might have already found it, but Airtex Pumps has a video on youtube about these kinds of pumps.
    watch?v=znEeiLobzxg Have to copy and paste after the/ TH-cam won't let me paste links
    Surprised at the pressures in those high pressure GDI pumps in Chevys 3000 psi !! OoO Going to have to definitely watch out for those things.
    Looking into GDI or Gasoline Direct Injection it seems up till now they were kinda rare. But they're starting to put it in more cars because they can boost efficiency by leaning the car way down and control fuel better. So watch out for them guys. Hopefully they have a bleed off to take pressure off when the key is off, but still wouldn't want to run into a leak on one of those with the motor running.

      Do you have a volt meter to check the output voltage of the fuel rail pressure sensor ? I have another video showing that. I can get a wiring diagram later if u need. But we need to see if the sensor changes voltage when it's started
