Watching Hitch habitually push back his non-existant hair as he speaks is soul-crushing. What a great mind; a mind sorely-missed and greatly needed in today's world.
Watched the entire debate. I've been a fan of Christopher Hitchens for quite some time, and I honestly feel that this may have been his finest debate performance, at least out of those I've watched. Especially his closing argument; Dembski probably should have agreed to give over his time for more questions, because those final remarks by Hitchens were absolutely brilliant.
Dembski's a dope. Hitch was always a class act, anybody else and his RIGHTward shift would have been treason, but he must have had his reasons, soon after his shift, he learned ironically, his throat the device so important to him, his livelihood and to so many of us fans, and followers.

It’s so ridiculous how stupid people can be… there is no Jesus… there is no god… nothing happens when you die… when you understand this you will live life with a purpose…Love each other .. that’s all we have
A truly great man CH who I only recently discovered but have had the same train of thought on religion for years. No way I could put my points across in the same manner he so eloquently did., his tone alone garners interest, without the solid content. Religion is almost comical to me, the amount of people that die each year in its many names is shameful. When the doctrines of religion are dissected by clever, knowledgeable people like CH, it really does put in the comedic bracket. My comments on here are not to incite or belittle people of faith. I just wish that rational thought would be elevated above the brainwashing and hatred that is obviously passed down through the generations.
I know I am not going to live forever and neither are you, but until my furlough here on earth is revoked, I’d like to elbow aside the established pieties and raise my tumbler of Johnnie Walker Black 🥃 in honor of the brilliant intellect that was Christopher Hitchens, may his courageous ideals against oppression and delusions keep inspiring freethinkers until the end of human extinction. I sorely miss him. 💐
A great debate. Hitchens at his most polite, showing great respect to all. Hitchens left us too soon. His views make total sense to me. Never a true believer and became a deist or a secular person. If there is a “God”, we are a failed experiment. I believe are brains are too small so we invent. Human beings are barbaric and cruel. Who would make that?
Imagine arguing for the existence of Abraham Lincoln for ten minutes and concluding that you have taken the audience into the "ballpark" of his existence. That would be ridiculous. Why is the standard of for proving God's existence so much lower?
At 32:03 Dembski admits that evolution is part of reality, in the middle of trying to convince the audience that it's not. Regardless of whether his claim is true, that HE could write a computer program that evolves Richard Nixon into Christophe Hitchens, and regardless of whether he meant evolves an image of one into an image of the other or evolves one's DNA into the other's DNA or evolves one's 3D body shape into the other's 3D body shape or whatever he might have meant, the fact remains that he openly admitted that a computer program can evolve something. Not just simulate the evolution of something, but actually evovle something. That is to say, a computer program can make changes to something in such a way that the changes add up or accumulate. Such accumulation of change, a process commonly known as evolution, is a part of the reality we live in.... and William Dembski openly admitted that fact in the process of trying to refute that same fact.
14:39 - If a God exist he(?) is certainly not on our side. Just look how much pain and cruelty and injustice is in the world he threw us in. And he doesn't help us. EVERYTHING that helps us in this world comes from ourselves. Science, technology, understanding of nature. God gave us nothing.

This is like being an insect or a rodent in a laboratory of a very cruel & stupid person" hahaha I started thinking this when I was a teenager. Couldn't ever rebut that argument to myself. Still holds. Thank you Hitch. You were a force to be reckoned with.
Dembski has decent ideas but just can’t deliver them properly at all. Hitchens just whips the floor with him in likability and understandability. Dembski is awkwardly on his back foot the whole time. And this is critique coming from a theist. 😅
Christian guy gave some trash arguments. He basically has a God of the gaps argument, the gaps have just gotten smaller. He also focuses way too much on Hitchens previous publications instead of making an argument for God.

I cringe every time I hear Hitchens translate “Gott mit uns” as “God is on our side.” It literally translates to “God with us,” word for word. He’s paraphrasing to give it more weight, but I don’t see any need for that-I wish he would’ve simply translated it literally instead, and then he could’ve followed that by saying, “in other words, ‘god is on our side.’”
I understand what you're saying. However, How did the German people interpret "Gott mit uns"? or "God with us." Back in the day? I think you'll find German people back then actually did interpreted literally as "God is on our side" So it's not that cringey. Hitchens (indeed, many of the "New Atheists like Harris, Dennett and Dawkins) has a great deal to say about Islam and a little less to say about Hinduism.
