E46 PreCat O2 Sensors Replaced - BMW 330CI

- Replaced both upstream oxygen sensors on my 2001 BMW 330CI. I didn't have any check engine lights, I just had problems with emissions. My secondary air system monitor would not go to "ready" status after driving almost 400 miles. After replacing both upstream O2 sensors my secondary air sensor went "ready" after less than 3 minutes.
Total cost was about $150 for the sensors and $15 for the O2 sensor tool. You could really get away with using a wrench on these though.
This has been one of the most frustrating monitors to deal with. After checking and replacing almost every vacuum line under the hood, it ended up being faulty O2 sensors.

Should you disconnect the negative terminal on the battery before doing this?
BlueKj It didn’t affect anything. I never do for simple things like this.

Thank you for the video. My 2001 325i failed smog because of a check engine light that showed code p0118. Replaced engine coolant temperature sensor and check engine light did not return but aftet driving over 700 miles the drive cycle was still not reset for smog, i/m codes showed secondary air and oxygen sensor not ready. Replaced two precat oxygen sensors: used bosch 13477 oxygen sensors, same as 11781742050. Drove the car for around 40 miles and scanner showed all i/m ready for smog. Passed smog. Thank you!!

After months of giving it a google, and receiving my o2 sensors, I stumbled onto second vid of yours that had to do with the dreaded 'drive cycle' which, after over 1600 miles of normal driving, mine never got ready. I'm hoping this is it. My check engine light has been off for 4 months after confirming my sec air pump was actually working. This has been a pain. Thanks for your videos...!

What are the use of car sensors? They supposed to tell you what is wrong with your car. but what is really happening here is, instead of pinpointing exactly the real problem it will tell you a lot of possible causes for you to buy more carparts. They were designed to deceive us in order for them to make money. Before, you can tell what’s wrong with your car, the alternator ,starter or sparkplug. Now with hi tech sensors you will know all the problems but you will never get to fixed it. 99.99 percent you will end up to the mechanic.
I have a Code P0141 Bank 1 sensor 2.can tell me the location.i have bmw 325i e46 2002 sedan.
they both uses the same 02 sensors ? i have 2004 330ci

How long is the life of a o2 sensor? I changed mine in 2015.
BMW recommends changing them every 100k

No. If I remember correctly, the plugs are different too.
They are the same.
What codes were you getting for 02 sensors
Po420 po430
I tought those codes were sure thing for a bad cat converter. Interesting!!!
