One additional tip: you can use your E through obstacles and walls and then, if you hit an enemy, you can teleport there. This can be helpful on the Dragon Shire for entering or leaving a shrine, or for getting to some camps even faster, and so on.
There's when to use E outside of Team Fights

@@zerobambiro yea, I started using a better build for him and it helped change my playstyle a bit after watching this. I remember I was pretty new to the game when I picked that hero up
I was stack in tank-killer mentality for awhile when I first started playing Malth, bought when he was still OP

I started playing HotS and i feel like there are smurfs in nearly every game, which makes me want to quit playing the game right away. So if you like to have a small community then keep doing that.

Well, that's amazing. I began watching your video (5 minutes or so), played Malthael 2 or 3 times, got slapped pretty bad. I was frustated. Yesterday, i watched it in full length and tried to adapt your tactics for my playstyle. Wow! I just stumped the enemy team (okay, they didn't draft a healer, another "low-ranks problem" i guess. But i played 12-1 and got 17k xp. Amazing guide. Thank you!
I choose fear the reaper a lot, but the big thing that makes it a must pick is being able to pass through the enemy team, so it's a good counter to displacement. Diablo's throw, Garrosh's throw, and even Junkrat's bomb, all can mean you're just dead if caught out, so I always pick fear the reaper in those cases. And then I always save it for an escape, not an engage.

Tried him after watching your guide, had a very bad time lol. I can't get the grasp on this character, there's still something i'm missing. For me he feels like a Zeratul with less burst damage, no cloak, way less mobility, for the (small) advantage of having self healing (which Zeratul can also have through talents) and a bit more health which doesn't feel relevant enough.
His only escape most of the time is running away with Fear of the Reaper which most of the time will mean you take 30-50% your health of damage before being safe (and if you get slowed, well fuck). In teamfight I felt like I really badly needed the help of a good tank which is not nice when you want to carry. This lack of escape and bulkiness makes it so you really need to be clear when or not you can trade, which is not easy when picking up a new character.
For instance last game I was sololaning against Sergent Hammer, and she sat lv2 in siege mode behind her creeps, attacking mine. I didn't want to get bullied out of my creeps so I tried and success to break her zone to pressure her and start a trade. Because of creep along the way, I was full life when I got in melee with her, so she was. We traded : she right clicked me, I right clicked her and spammed my first spell. Well guess what, she won, I died and she escaped with 10% of her health. What kind of bruiser can't force Sergent Hammer out of her siege when closing in with her AT FULL HEALTH ? lol. The thing is also, because Malt is such a sitting duck, getitng away of this trade as I saw it happened wasn't a good option either, since I would've take so much damage before being out of her range, maybe even dying anyway, so I had no choice to just look at my demise as it happened, lol.

I do like the memento mori build in which you pick the trait quest on lv 4, the "bad ult" and memento mori at lv 16... the rest o think is pretty situational (except the 20 for TS kind of sucks)
If you take the anti team at lv 7 it can be very powerful against healers like rehgar or lili which have a pretty strong heal ult. You see the ult go off, pop your own and he anti heal and you make people cry. You have to go for long fights with that since the lv 16 gets value after 4 seconds

Get an Ana-Player in your premade group, then malthael with Nano can kill literally the whole enemy Team
Some Division S teams used this plus divine shield from Uther.
I don‘t remember the games, but when it worked out, it was so scary: a shielded, nanoboosted angel of death spreading reaper‘s marks everywhere and doing insane damage...
Malth was super hard the first couple games but once I learned the early game rotation I started winning most games
I like these videos. But I would enjoy more general tips for each rank.
(E.g. „In silver people tend to stay close together in Team fights and don‘t do camps. So you want to pick a hero with good aoe and camp clear.“)
You die a little bit of that, when you were talking about taking the camp and double soaking. I‘d like to see more of that. :)
Almost level 300 with malth, so you could say I like the hero. As a silver to now gold player, I love that he can carry the macro of the game with wave clear and camps. That said, going Touch of Death with Tourmented Souls means that their entire team isn't getting healed, which is a great counter to say Lili when she ults. It also helps against Anas or Varians with their heal reduction, because they are then put on an even playing field. I switch up between 2 builds - 1 single target/solo lane, and the other AoE team fights/close quarter multi hero fights.

idk, being lvl 300 with Malthael but not getting out of gold *has* to mean you're doing something wrong.
@@080808adi it's definitely something. A lot of games are easy and I can feel like I'm carrying. But some games are a crapshoot. My winrate this season with malth is 60%. But all the other heroes I've had to play (mostly healers) are below 50%. I am always trying to improve my malth though.
@@IzzyTheSweetest I'm almost exactly the same. lvl 345 malth with 60% wr with almost any other hero below 50%. but in masters. I did climb from silver 5 with ~80% winrate on malth. there has to be something you're doing wrong.
@@080808adi What I think is it's a bunch of little things that add up. I play a lot with certain friends because I like them, but my winrate with them isn't good. And a few other little things that just add up. I'm not stressing though. Overall, I'm in it to have fun with a hero I love. If I get to plat or diamond, perfect. If not, its okay

That is the one problem with notparadox vids. His teammates are usually in the same mindset, or on coms, or he is teamed with a few friends. I want to see some honest notparadox solo que gameplay vids where he loses.

Only thing I'd recommend is to start posting up build guides. The community kinda sucks in that regard anymore. Would be great to see one attached to videos to compare our choices vs. yours. I know they're not as diverse as other MOBAs, but just a thought.

Finally - Malthael is the best hero in solo (lower) league period.
71% with Malthael (plat league.)
He can solo lane, clear camps, can kill without a healer. Most teams pick 2 tanks or 3-4 frontline heros - his AoE ult + DoT dmg deals dmg when u are stunned or sth.
Malthael is insanely good in any rank providing you have a decent draft. I have around 65% winrate with him at hero lv 100+ vs masters and grandmasters. Overall it seems like an easy hero but it does take a lot of time to master him. As a malthael main my highest recommandation to you guys is to play him a lot. Eventually you'll start to estimate your chances to win a fight ( either 1v1, 1v2 and so on ) which is imo the most important aspect of a bruiser.
Thanks for this! I was checking your "Why the pros use Mathael" video for pointers as I wanted to get good on a hero that can counter (Twin blade) Varian. As you might know he's auto ban in lower ranks, but if he passes through and is played by a decent player it's game over. I had a game (mostly gold/silver players) where he was supported by Aba and as I owned him in early game, I'm guessing the lack of coordination made him unkillable in late game. Any tips how to counter him?
Hey l, I've played a game with a Varian Twin Blade about 3 or 2 days ago, I was Aba, but it was quick match. The dude owned whenever i applied my parasite to him.
Stun him?
Displace him?
Blind him?
Reduce his healing?
Blinds. I pick johanna almost always against him,and then pick longer blind at 7.then burn him down as a team when cant do anything for 2,5 sec. Dont duel him,in an even fight you cant win after 7.
hi not paradox, what do you think about the shroud+wraith build?
i mostly used that build and found successes even againts lower hp opponents.
i usually go death's reach --> throwing shade --> massacre/cold hand --> tormented souls --> (situational, but inevitable end and ethereal esistence works very well with tormented soul) --> mortality (if many tank and took massacre) / soul collector --> final curtain/reaper of souls/no one can stop death
i usually kept using the shroud until then dived in the middle of the teamfights, massacre deals quite the damage here, then right after popping ult, i use wraith strike again as the ult refreshes the cooldown. death's reach quite useful to teleport across the battle
Yea Malthael never wants to go all in during a 1v1. You just want to constantly wittle them down, get them to spend their resources, then pop a last rites for an easy kill. Never EVER take 1v1 fights against Heroes like Raynor or Fenix, their sustained damage is better than yours, and they can easily kite you long enough to where you won't be able to deal enough damage for a last rites, and even if you do, Raynor has his heal and Fenix has his tp, alongside the fact that half his healthbar doesn't count towards bonus damage on last rites, you essentially have to get him to 1/6 health compared to the 1/3 for everyone else.
So its Q > Auto > Q > Auto all the time and then just replace the Q with W if you want to jump somewhere?

Hey NP. Thought I'd criticize you a bit because people love that. I like your HotS vids and I appreciate how you're covering a wide range of topics.
I was wondering if you could work on your language; that means grammar, sentence structure, conjunctions in run-on sentences. This may sound like an odd request and it likely is.
You do this rough phrase glue thing. One sentence, then a random word (usually "which") and a follow-up. Example: "Hi, I'm NP, which, as you might know, I'm a pretty cool streamer."
It's only a pet peeve of mine and I understand that you're forming your thoughts on the go. All it does is let my attention wander a bit but I can always rewind. Still, I've noticed it a bit. Pallytime manages to string his thoughts together quite cleverly by using "gonna", somehow making sense when commenting.
One way of dealing with this is through making a script for every audio take, so you know in advance what you want to cover. The other thing is actually not always connecting your sentences. So instead of leaving them hanging with a conjunction and... then coming up with something, just finish the thought. Then start a new one.

Why don't you Memento Mori at 16? Is the time needed to ramp up to the bigger ticks really not worth it?
if you can keep up marks long anough for memento mori, you will win anyway. It's a hard "win more" to a situation where you shouldn't need to win any harder.

Malthael is a character that requires patience and positioning. Specially in Teamfights. He is a bruiser, yes, but he doesn't as long as Imperius, Yrel or others. You need a tank or another frontline to take the hits for you first before you go in. You ahve to be very conservative about your playstyle.
@@Zhade99 Yeah, I agree, and that's why this video and what NotParadox say can be quite misleading. He does indeed speak about the fact that you want to play this in and out playstyle to be conservative, but the long rambling about how good he is and how much he can solo carry a team kinda counteracted this.
Stuck in bronze, so deep, that if i do win it's only 25 rank points per win.... lets see someone get out of THAT when you have to have 496 rank points to progress to rank 4

@@Zuucco apparently from what i have read recently, since my last post above, the rank points and given on a bell type curve (this was on the blizzard site somewhere). So in Bronze 5 if you happen to lose all of your matches from gold (like i did) allll the way down due to idiots not working together for objectives and ADDing all over the place, then you get to a point where you literally have to dig your way out, extremely slowly.
That being said you only make about 15 - 25 rank points in bronze 5 per win and as it gets closer to promotion towards rank 4 and rank 3 it gives a little more like 36 to 45 points, then bronze 4, 3, 2, 1 will give more and more and then the curve drops off somewhere around Platinum 2 i think? so you gain less for winning matches.
They said this keeps the distribution more "even"... or so they claim. Either way thats why.

Malthael needs a good comp to be effective. I have tried it in qm, and it is painfull because most of the time in qm comp is completly random, like malthael as solo frontline, no healer, vs thrall, kt, hanzo, valeera, or even worse only poking heroes :D Second, I did not find it as good as other heroes to carry with in low rank SL, just because at this low levels your teamates are able to play against Malthael mechanics. Quite a lot, your survivability in fights will depend on creeps around you (where is it better for Mathael to fight for sustain), and your assassin mage gracefully lands an aoe dmg and wipe all these creeps and byebye your sustain you die. You try to land a trail predicting where your opponent goes ? You wanna miss that ? No problem, your ETC slides in and land a stomp which pushes away the opponent from your trail direction. You wanna cast your last rite in a team fight, you cant, your thrall teamate is there to cast a fissure ulti that rescue your target. This probably makes you smile, but it happens a lot, and I mean A LOT. Overall I think Malthael relies too much on specific mechanics which at low ranks most of the time are ruined by your own teamates, so I do not find Malthael consistant in low rank SL. Several other heroes can do far better in terms of consistency DESPITE your teamates lack of game or mechanics knowledge, they are also easier in closing the gap and structure dmg contrary to Malthael. If I remember well, these heroes are in your top list of Tier S or A hero list video you have very recently made. Malthael is also in it, and I disagree on that.

Yeah, on a pale horse at level 1 is almost always better, massacre on 7 is a good option too and wisdom is probably the best on 13 unless you really need the unstoppable.

Ok as a malthael main, I just have to say this. *Please* stop spamming q in lane when no heroes are around. Q should only be spammed against heroes and mercs. It is a *huge* waste of mana. Other than that, great job!

And no, if you go for double soak, just clear the wave as fast as possible. You always can go back.
Only thing I would change is lvl 1 and 7, on a pale horse on 1 for double soak and roaming, especially on maps like towers.
