    This video was exactly what I needed, thanks for the callout about the socket size. Appreciate it!

    I bought a new September 2019 Subaru Impreza with a first oil change scheduled for 12,400kms as per dealer instructions. I am mechanically minded and I own 5.0i Ford 302 Windsor powered cars which I do the work on. I decided to dump the oil in the Subaru at 2400kms and change the oil filter as well. The oil was completely black & also the oil filter was on so tight I am glad I changed it now instead of waiting another 10,000kms. I used a very good quality 0-30w Synthetic 4.4 litres and it is much quieter at startup and also runs 6 degrees cooler according to onboard oil temp. Anybody who owns a new car- Do not wait more than 3000kms to change the oil as it is a run in batch essentially and is full of metal particles & assembly lubes etc. When you attach the new filter, tighten just passed hand tight.

    This was awesomely helpful, especially the very end when he resets the computer. I would have skipped that had I not know to reset. I just changed my ascent’s oil after I did my other 2012 Subaru. I did not jack up the ascent, but that may help others who are beefier than I.

    Great video! Shows exactly what I need to see even if I never did one of those myself. Thanks my good man!

    It takes 4.7, not 5 quarts🫣🫣🫣. Use a strap wrench on the filter. So easy to take off! Also, the dealer said you can use any 0-20 oil, but always use a Subaru filter since they are built a special way.

    I am looking to maybe buy an Ascent, and I like to do may own maintenance. Good info. Please use jack stands before you go under the car.

      All 5 quarts. But in the end I rely on the oil level stick.

    • @daveroski
      @daveroski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. Manual says 4.8. He’s right. 5 quarts fills it to like 80-90%. I have the same engine in my legacy and was wondering same. I think 4.8 fills to between high and low.

    Don't you ever put that Fram on there!? You need an oil filter rated at 23psi relief valve, but that Fram ultra is only 11-17psi. If you must use a Fram, get the racing filter, HP17, it is rated closer to 21psi. Better yet, don't use Fram for a turbo.

    • @tomquach4425
      @tomquach4425 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brian for the suggestion. I have started using OEM after that video. Which Ascent do you have and have you done any modification to it?

      @@tomquach4425 I have the Premium with sport package. The only mod I've done so far is install the OEM hitch. I like it a lot. Btw, check out the black Subaru oil filter. I hear it's better than the OEM blue filter, but it's harder to find. The blue one is actually made by Fram, but they created it specially for Subaru with the 23 psi spec.

      Can you please explain why the OEM oil filter has a 23psi bypass valve setting? I would like to hear your expertise on this matte.

    • @Trafalgar42
      @Trafalgar42 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TranslatedAssumption I personally don't have any expertise which is why I would stay with the PSI bypass value that the Subaru engineers decided to go with. I trust their expertise (like choosing 0w-20 synthetic) pretty much over any commenter here. Anyhow, just my $.02 since I don't see people responding to this question you've been asking. Not saying that you need to go with the OEM filter, just something that meets the OEM specifications.

      Please explain further, I would like your expertise on how the Fram Ultra is NOT be best filter available?

    • @brandonpetrilla1731
      @brandonpetrilla1731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TranslatedAssumption The Subaru OEM oil filters use a bypass pressure of 23.2 PSI, Most aftermarket filters are 10-12 PSI, I believe the WIX oil filters have a higher bypass pressure spec like the OE Subaru filters have, I have become accustomed to buying the OE Subaru filter and using any quality Full Synthetic oil for the Subaru's, N/A Engines use 0w20 and Turbo Models take 5w30.

    • @TranslatedAssumption
      @TranslatedAssumption 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonpetrilla1731 are you saying that all performance parameters of the Subaru OEM oil filter and the Fram Ultra are exactly the same? Same flow rate? Same pressure differential? Same output? If those factors are different than the bypass can be different. In your expertise please explain WHY the Subaru OEM oil filter has a 23.2psi bypass valve setting.
