Next King’s Cross (London) to King’s Cross (Sydney) pls. Would be a great way to experience some of Sydney’s double decker and reversible seat trains
That opens a whole can of worms! I guess the only rule is that Nick has to leave by rail and arrive by rail. So how about Aldershot UK to Aldershot, Ontario, Canada. There will be many more...
How about Central (Tyne & Wear Metro) to Central (MTR Hong Kong)? 😂
To add to the challenge, NO PLANES ALLOWED!
How about Sydenham (Sydney) - Sydenham (London) - Sydenham (Belfast)?
Oh my word..
The Thameslink display has made me think of another Point to Point - Sutton to Sutton Coldfield
Or Little Sutton on Merseyrail (most likely be a bus replacement service)
Sutton Coldfield?? :O I went there today and loads of other times!
and Sutton Parkway (Notts)
I mean, Sutton is the most common town name in the UK
yup
Amazed you can take all of those Paris Metro trains and never encounter an accordion playing busker 😊
We didn't, my guess is that as most of our metros were so busy they'd never have got on with an accordion anyway 😂
I didn't have the pleasure, but I was on the RER B less than a month ago, and this rapper stepped up with his accomplice and literally performed a studio-worthy rendition of what I'm guessing was his latest single... While the train was moving.
Anyone else as a kid literally think the channel tunnel/Euro tunnel was see through and you could see all the fish swimming around? Because same and I was a very gutted adult when I found out they weren’t…
Anyways, on that same note, it literally baffles me that they’ve built tunnels underwater to connect two counties 😅
Me
Was really disappointed when I saw it
it took me way too long to realise it goes under the river and through it :(
Yeah I thought that...
Same man, when I went in the tunnel I thought we could see fishes through the window, well guess I was pretty dumb back then.
Thought Moreton to Moreton was the boss of Point to Point.... this one beats it! This is the ultimate boss of Point to Point and a great video as well. Also never been on a Class 374 as well.
If you thought that was the boss, you've not seen another idea that's floating around Richard's head 😉
@@CoastwayWill Your making this sound like a sub-boss now CoastwayWill 😂
Charing Cross to Charing Cross would be a long one, not least because the departures from London Charing Cross leave in the wrong direction, and all trains into Glasgow from London go to Central but Charing Cross is on the Queen Street low level line.
Charing Cross to Charing Cross (Glasgow)
Or Cardiff Queen Street (via Cardiff Central) . . . To Glasgow Queen Street (via Glasgow Central)
Or London Waterloo to Hannover Waterloo via Waterloo.
@@flierfy ooh, I like that!!
Victoria (London) to Biktória (Athens)?
Still hoping that Nick will do Pontefract (Monkhill) to Pontefract (Baghill) via Pontefract (Tanshelf), or as I call it "The Ponte Shuffle"
Yes this is a great suggestion
@@Nooticus This could be a "Point to Point" & a "Pointless Journey" all in one. Therefore it's a "Pointless Point to Point Journey"!
Brings back all sorts of fond memories visiting the UK and France on the same trip!
If it weren't for the annoying war in Ukraine/Russia, then it would be possible to travel from Dover (Kent) to Dover (Singapore) entirely by train.
Next? Paris, France to Paris, Texas
It really amazes me that you subjected yourself to the pains of a) navigating Châtelet and b) having to use the RER B instead of just taking the 11 to République and then the 5 to Gare du Nord
You’ve now unlocked Waterloo (Belgium) to London Waterloo
Maximum speed on the Class 374 (e320) is 320km/h (199mph). For the Class 373 (TGV series 373000 / e300) it is 300km/h (186mph).
Planes, Trains, Everything did Troon (Scotland) to Troon (Belgium) a while back, but he took a plane in the middle of the journey.
Pppft, planes? Treason!
(It is, however, literally in his name so I'll let him off ;)
Eurostar do not run trains on any lines which support speeds over 300km/h though.
The Line 11 platforms were redesigned in a Jules Verne-style by Belgian comics artist François Schuiten in 1994 to mark the bicentenary of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers! I love when stations have cool designs or mosaics on the platform that make them stand out! One of my favorite subway artworks is 81st Street-Museum of Natural History in NYC because of how much it embraces the museum with murals of fossils that were added in the 1970s and then in the 1990s, mosaics replicating the cosmos, an ocean, and Earth's strata! I also love the architecture of Tashkent Metro stations. They all have their own unique architectural features and artistic elements. Some look like ballrooms with huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling while others look like a film set from a science fiction movie. Walking through it is like walking through Tashkent's history. Every station shows a part of Uzbek history, and they all tell a story from the Silk Road to the empires that once ruled over it.
Those Guimard entrances of the Paris Métro are chef's kiss! Here's the story behind why they're that way: In the years leading up to the Exposition Universelle in 1900, Paris was busy building their Métro, but many Parisians were against building said Metro because they thought it would look industrial. In order to make the entrances look aesthetically pleasing, a contest was held with 21 participants but chose none of them and instead commissioned Hector Guimard to design entryways that were as elegant as possible. Guimard opted to craft his entrances out of cast-iron set in concrete and painted a shade of green evocative of oxidized brass. The use of cast iron allowed him to construct the curved forms characteristic of his style, and concrete enabled him to incorporate sculpted details throughout each design, whether rendered as a roofed édicule structure or an open entourage model. In the years following their installation, Guimard's entryways were met with mixed reviews, and many were removed. However of course, the ones that remained were later realized for the Parisian icons that they are!
Eurostar e320/Class 374s have a top speed of 320 km/h or 199 mph, it was the Class 373/Eurostar e300/TGV TMST that had a top speed of 186 mph or 300 km/h! However the Class 374 is still limited to 186mph while in operation! The RER or Réseau Express Régional is basically a hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system, as in It acts as a combined city-center underground rail system and suburbs-to-city-center commuter rail. It's like how the SEPTA regional rail system in Philadelphia has the Center City Commuter Connection which was built to connect the stub ends of the two separate regional commuter rail systems, originally operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Company. The Commuter Connection is a four-track tunnel, which contains two underground stations, Suburban Station and Jefferson Station, and the above-ground upper-level concourse for the east-west commuter lines serving 30th Street Station.
The RER has lines A, B, C, D, and E. The RER is operated partly by RATP, the authority that operates most of the public transport in Paris, and partly by SNCF, France's national rail operator. RER B is the line that serves Charles De Gaulle 1 and 2, so not only does it connect to TGV, Transilien, and Eurostar services at Gare du Nord, but it also connects to TGV services at Charles De Gaulle 2. The RER B also serves La Plaine Stade de France-Saint-Denis-Aubervilliers for the Stade de France stadium. The RER A is the line that has a branch that serves Disneyland Paris at Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy station where there are connections to TGV services as well.
first
Very good video Nick I could see it in your face that you didn,t want to return to dreary old England. Looking forward to the next one.
Birmingham (Alabala) to Brimingham (UK) should be next!
Brilliant, as always!! Thank you…..
Thank you so much!! I have been so excited for this 😂
Good video Nick. Been years since I last went on Eurostar. Thank you for sharing.
If we haven’t already, we need nick to take train King’s Cross to St Pancras via Doncaster, Sheffield
The HSL between Paris ,Lille and the tunnel under channel is 300kph (in few years 320kph).At Lille HSL pass under the city in tunnel limited a 220kph (if i don't make a mistake mabye 200pkh).In the mega tunnel under the sea, it's 160kph.
honored to have my little local station mentioned in that thameslink announcement at st pancras intl
Brilliant! Hoping to try the Eurostar someday!
Sounds like a lot of fun travelling between two countries on a train!
From London to Amsterdam, you can travel through 4 countries on the same train!
HAHAH YESSSSS! Nick going international, I'm here for it!
excellent ! it's a pleasure to listen. i practice my english! (french)
Brilliant idea, great point to point adventure
Great! Now for Temple (Hyrule) 😁
Best episode yet
You need to do Blackhorse road to Blackhorse Lane
Absolutely great video
Great video mate!
There is more insane: York to New York or even worse Jersey to New Jersey 😅
This was great fun! Cheers for the brilliant day 😁
This video Is really cool
I used to pass through Arts et Metiers all the time. The recorded voice on the train would variously pronounce the S in Arts or not depending on speaker thus proving a moot point in French.
Nice one!
brilliant video...
You could do Newport (Essex) to Newport in south wales!
Great video!
I know. Derby (Derbyshire) to Derby Road (Suffolk).
Also The new trains are called MP14 Material pneu. They Started Automatic on line 14 but the will spread to trains with older MP or MF and The Trains on the RER Are Either MI84 OR MI89.
I think a cool one would be:
Three Oaks-Four Oaks or vice versa. This vid brings me back memories of when I went!🎉
Super video mate
You could do Waterloo station in London to Waterloo station in Belgium or could also do Austerlitz station (France) to Waterloo station as well
Okay I can tell this is gonna be a good video
edit :yep it's amazing I'm sitting with my blahaj right now
WOW! chatalet les halles RER station is absolutely massive
Temple-Gare du Nord is shorter via a transfer at République with Line 5 (or as Temple and République are very close to each other, take Line 5 there). Of course, making a detour via Arts & Métiers for the beautiful Line 11 platforms there can be a nice thing. However if you want to get to Gare du Nord going Westbound on Line 3, the transfer is at Réaumur-Sébastopol on Line 4.
Châtelet-Les Halles complex is about 800 meters long from the furthest exits on each side. The RER station alone is about 300 meters long.
Thanks!
Thanks a lot 😃
i don't know if the two stations have similar enough names, but you could do Temple (London) to Bristol Temple Meads as a point-to-point.
If you want to do that exclusively around Paris there are actually two stations on the network called Malesherbes. One is on line 3 of the metro and the other one is at the very end of RER D
What about Wood Lane (West London, nearby the old BBC studios) to Wood Lane (North London, nearby Sky’s studios), both Wood Lanes are in London
Will is great - very smiley!
From 'Slavkov u Brna' in CZ (formerly known as 'Austerlitz', place of the Napoleonic battle) to 'Austerlitz' in NL, optionally via Gare d'Austerlitz in Paris.
You can also do St Paul Paris métro to St Paul London Undergroud, or Monument London Underground to Monument Newcastle Metro. I am sure there is plenty of other similar possibilites
oh just wait until he finds out he can do Sutton (London) to Sutton (Dublin) via Sutton Coldfield (Birmingham)....
Neither have railway stations, but there's also Ashbourne (Derbyshire) to Ashbourne (Ireland).
Welcome to Paris ! But I confirm this town has a lot of changed !
First international point to point?
If you don't count Wales
Yup!
@@bigbigchungusbigchungusbig1117Part of UK
isnt wales part of the uk though?
@@AlexieGalaxys The UK is four countries technically, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
France has kind of many announcements compared to my country where you will only get the station name once if the system is actually working.
6:49 not a trivia just the speed in kmph 🤣🤣
Normally, it just take 2 lines and 4 stops to go from Temple to Gare du Nord.
Temple > Republique (line 3 towards Gallieni) : 1 stop
Republique to Gare du Nord on the line 5 towards Bobigny : 3 stops
Exhibition Centre (Glasgow) to Exhibition Centre (Hong Kong), too.
Not a station at the southern end, unfortunately, but I'd love a journey from Wick, Littlehampton, West Sussex to Wick, Scotland!
Great one Nick!! I think Point to Point will only get bigger from here, how far are you willing to take it? 😂😂😂
Sponsored by the Knights Templar 🤣 - shows how influential they were before their fall from grace...
BLAHAJ SUPREME, honestly thought you couldnt be cooler but i mean you keep getting better
Ye gods, the travelator at Chatelet was working!! Love the Paris Metro, so many quirks. Good fun.
York to New York next 😃
I could look it up, of course, but I'm far too indolent to do so - but aren't there two George V stations as well?
You could also do Trianglen in Copenhagen to Triangeln in Malmö 😅
Le Ferrovipathe hinted at doing Rome (Paris Metro) to Rome a few months ago, but didn't do it
Waiting for Beauly to Beaulieu Road, or Wick to Wickford. Both possible in a day (just)
Gare du Nord, Paris to Gare du Nord, Bucharest perhaps? That would be an adventure.
Could do Kew Gardens (New York) to Kew Gardens (London).
You was riding the most recent metro stock in Paris in the line 11, it's a stock which started operating just few months ago, named the MP14
Yup, replacing the MP 59s, once in a blue moon sighting those now :(
you could try Soest (Netherlands) to Soest (Germany) sometime
May i ask how you (tried) to find out the speed of the train?
Was it like an app or a program or how did you do it?
Next:
Victoria to Victoria Street Station (Denmark) !!!!
What about Charing Cross (London) to Charing Cross (Glasgow) and Harwich Town to Horwich Parkway (via Ipswich and Norwich).
Hi Nick, there's a Temple station in Texas, but maybe a little too far for you!
When I heard you were doing this, I did not envy you 😂 also I wonder who took the picture of the Métro in the thumbnail? 😜
I have a crazy idea: Temple to Temple to Temple. Temple station in Paris to Temple station in London to Temple University station in Philadelphia. I know it's not the same but it would be awesome
Maybe you should try going form Victoria Kent station in Malaga to Victoria through kent (well the second is easy since the Eurostar passes through kent anyways)
Gare du Nord!! Remember this station from Mr. Bean movie!!!
Do you mean Mr Bean's Holiday since in Bean he went to the US?
@@reptongeek Mr. Bean holiday (2007).
You should do Nottingham Station (NET trams) to Nottingham Station (East Midlands Railway)
Lille is worth a visit.
Quicker to do temple-temple internationally than Moreton-Moreton in Marsh-Moreton in the UK
These point to points just keep getting better and better
Ince & Elton to Elton & Orston would be challenge
It's fashionable, if you have "Elton" in your name to get a parliamentary service only
6:49 When I was on a 374, I don’t remember any trivia! Always a good video!!
The 374 asks you
Q: How good is this video?
A: Absolutely Fantastic!
Its not a trivia its the speed in kmph🤣🤣
@@POEGARTM Oh I wonder why Nick said it then. It is interesting though. Thanks for the correction!
Wow... Paris to London... I did that very recently last week. Was it 9 March?
Did you look out for any abandoned Paris metro stations on your travels?
Next trip: Vienna (Austria) to Vienna/Fairfax (DC Metro)
How far in advance did you book the Eurostar?
Pointless Journey Ideas! Edgware Road To Edgware Road With out doing a circle line loop, Tyne And Wear Metro Central Station To Central Station Overground Also Point To Point Ideas Charing Cross Glasgow To alone Charing Cross, Gillingham Kent To Gillingham Dorset and also Adlington Lanc to Adlington Ches by the way I love your channel and I think you should do all the metros/underground’s/light rail systems in England…
Newark, NJ to Newark, Notts? Rutherglen, Scotland to Rutherglen, Victoria? Just a couple of thoughts.
I think I saw nick in King’s Cross today
Have you done Charing Cross (London) to Charing Cross (Glasgow)?
It would have been easier to get line 11 to République and from there line 5 to Gare du Nord. We tend to avoid Châtelet whenever we can
Waterloo (WAT) to Waterloo (WTL)
first is london, second is merseyside
surprised you didn't have 'The Tim Traveller' for the pairs section
